Nice!!! I’m thinking seriously about the Durston Pro 2p because its the same weight as my GG “One” because the Durston is dyneema. I would get two persons size/comfort/capability at the weight cost of my current one person shelter… not a bad trade off if I can stomach the $$$ … LOL
@@CastawayHikes I hear you.. thats why I got the Shadowlite.. I need at least one pack with a little higher capacity and load lifter for backpacking in the Sierra where I tend to do long stretches of 8-10 days without resupply. That pack also like the extra carry capacity for more “serious” back country fly fishing trips.
Good morning Juan! How will the gossamer tent perform in colder conditions? I am interested in purchasing the tent just not sure about how durable it would be and if it is a good option for colder climates
I've used my GG tents in snow fall of about 3-5 inches. It does fine but you do have to knock the snow off once in a while. Of course in those condition condensation can be an issue but thats pretty much par for the course with single wall tents in my experience.
Ha ha… I know.. I started using one 2 years ago when I did the JMT. It’s a game changer!.. I wish more folks would give it an honest try… I hate seeing tons of TP out on trails that don’t require folks to pack it out.
I've had this tent in a lot of rain, sleet and snow. It does just fine. Yes there is sagging when it rains because the tent is silnylon but all you need to do is tention the tent once the material is wet.. then you are fine.
The Allmansright Holster Stake sack. You be like “ why aren’t they all like this?”. It’s also nice just to look at haha. I have the large size to hold my Groundhogs and Vargo trowel. I have that chair in the same color. It may be my favorite purchase ever from REI, and I’ve been shopping there for 20 years. I take that chair everywhere.
I’ve been thinking about those stake sacks… I think I hear about them through a backpacking podcast. The chairs is definitely a really nice luxury item. On my long trips in the Sierra, I carry about 30 lbs (total pack weight). On my shorter trips in the Appalachian mountains I don’t even come close to 30lbs so the chair always tags along. :)
Hey Juan, do you think you could fit a full size Zrest pad in place of the sit pad against your back in either of these backpacks? I'm desperate to find a backpack that can do this like the old Gossamer Gear G5 (which I need to retire).
Hi Kevin… thanks for posting a question! I just checked. Neither of mine do. I have smalls in both packs so that might have something to do with it. The width though is super tight. Two panels wide works but the height does not work.
@@juanbackpacks thanks so much for checking! I'm thinking of creating a Big 3 video that includes my Gossamer Gear G5 (which I carried on the JMT in 2014 with a bear cannister) with a call to anyone who has connections to someone who can sew an updated backpack or is interested in my help in designing one. Given there's still a following for CCF sleeping pads, I think there's truly a market for a sub-1lb ultralight pack in that space. Here's hoping! 🤞
I think you are correct. I might be tempted to carry a CCF if I could integrate with my pack easily. I can fold up my GG CCF and use that in either pack.
@@juanbackpacks You're talking about the 1/8" pad, right? It's on my shopping list to try but it may be just a little too thin for me as my main/only sleeping pad. The Zrest is just so great! I've been using it for 20+ years!
@@KevinRStrauss I hear you… I can’t sleep on it but its nice for a little extra R value in winter under my inflatable and just to lie down on for a nap or break. You brought up a good point.. why don’t some companies at least make one ultralight pack specifically designed to utilize an accordion style pad like the zRest. The CCF pads are all pretty similar in dimensions.
I’m lucky. I did some instructional work for a company in the fishing industry and they picked up the tab for some good lighting and some microphones to improve the video quality. That’s all you really need to improve a bit. I’m just using my IPhone to record. Lots of stuff that works and is cheap on amazon in terms of lighting and wireless microphones.
I love the Flexlite Air. They are 50% off on July 4th
I am kicking myself for passing up that 50% sale earlier.. I didn't make the decision to buy until after the sale was over.. unfortunately. :(
my durston xmid1 and LiteAF curve 46 full suspension backpack are my MVP's of 2022.

I got a Curve 40L full suspension and I love it but I regret not getting the 46 solely for the load lifters

@@juanbackpacks it looks like an awesome pack, I'm really impressed with the gear that Tayson and his crew design
Love your vids -
Thanks so much for the positive feedback!
Just found your channel. Love it. Very well done - informative without the fluff.
Thanks for the positive feedback on the channel and my videos! I really do appreciate it! I’m anti fluff! LOL :)

Culoclean Bidet was such a game changer for me in my 2022 hikes. Will never go back to toilet paper again.

How will it do in the rain as well?

I need a better space to do videos indoors like this lol. Getting tired of making videos in the garage. Nice gear collection! Love the videos!
