I had a friend growing up (unfortunately in prison now for growing marijuana), whose parent's sent him to a psychiatrist for his similar sense of humor. He explained to the shrink that the reason for his dark humor was the fact that his older brother used to beat him up, right in front of his parents and they never did anything about it. In the follow-up interview with his parents, they informed the shrink of the truth ... he never had a brother. My friend thought this was hilarious.

@@warcamp70 I mean, it was hilarious, but why "fuck that shrink"? That's a terrible fucking attitude. Often times behaviour like this IS the result of domestic abuse. You really think people should just mind their own business even when, say, a father is regularly beating the shit out of his child?
Sure, the shrinks need to be aware of the existence of atypical behaviour. Not everyone behaves in a certain way because of trauma; they're just like that. But that correlation exists, and we shouldn't ignore it just because some people want to be special snowflakes without anyone actually noticing their being different.

+bob Saggot I don't disagree. But he's not a nihilist. Being objective doesn't mean one doesn't care, just that one makes an effort to see things as they are (free from personal bias). In other words...thinking, not feeling.

    • @1shot0neKill

    • @jdstarek
      @jdstarek 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

+bob Saggot Making an effort to be objective (analytical and free from bias) is definitely not the same thing as being a nihilist. Unfortunately, objectivity is in short supply these days. I feel very strongly about a great many issues, but I also realize that in no way gives me the right or aptitude to tell someone else how they should think/feel/act. A good example is that I don't smoke weed...but I don't think it should be illegal for others to partake. That's objectivity. If I propose to tell others what they should/shouldn't do, based on my own opinions, I would not be acting objectively. I feel quite strongly about liberty (as does Doug)... I don't care what you do (so long as you don't infringe on others), but I care very much about your freedom to do as you choose.

Sometimes young depressed kids kill themselves. THAT is a shame. However, for an adult to discuss their own choices for 'end of life' they should be respected. I had more than one wonderful cats that were great companions. Having them "put to sleep" was the ONLY humane option. But if a close relative is in the end stages of a very painful, and fatal disease we are supposed to just let them linger for months and months in their nightmare. No one wants to be remembered as such a pitiful being. What could be MORE of a personal decision than one's own death?

In the 90s, it was the Republicans that were a threat to liberty. Today, the threat is liberals.
I don't really care which side is a threat, and I suspect that on the long-term it will always oscillate depending on which side has the most momentum and power.

@@michaelgraffam5423 liberals aren’t coming for your liberty. Democrats might lecture on social issues but that doesn’t actually represent liberal ideology. It’s just politicians pandering to a increasingly socially conscious base, generally to a fault. Being liberal is now what it was in the 90’s. They were talking about the same exact political issues then as now. Healthcare, higher wages, closing tax loopholes for the wealthy. The only liberty I see them taking away is 30 round mags, but let’s see some alternative ideas on keeping them away from nuts and we might be able to change that rhetoric. I like guns, I want a m16. I don’t need one, I need health insurance. I recently broke my leg logging and needed surgery, thank god I’m poor enough to qualify for New York’s liberal state health insurance plan. I’d be 50 grand in the hole. Would be nice to not have to be under paid to get insurance though.
I mean I think lying about an election being stolen when you know it wasn’t then passing restrictive voting measures that significantly effect a specific demographic of voter is a way bigger threat to liberty then anything the left is trying to do. Unless your someone that thinks that’s ok cause your convinced liberals are taking your liberty from you, so any thing flys cause it’s for freedom. I’m not a fan of the Democratic Party, I think they are a bad representation of what it is to be liberal, just like republicans suck at being conservative. Republicans love spending money when they are starting wars or building walls, but when something gets in the way of giving their rich friends tax breaks suddenly the deficit is to high.
If you made it this far my point is The problem isn’t liberals telling you how to live, or taking your liberty, it’s the propaganda war going on right now to make us hate each other, don’t fall for it. It’s just politically motivated media outlets banking big on figuring out what scares us or pisses us off, then blowing those things out of proportion and selling them back to us on prime time. Outrage and fear has become a market commodity, and it’s as lucrative as it is destructive. I’m sure if we can start talking to each other more we might find really most people don’t want to take anything away from anybody. It’s also pretty convenient to convince people that the political ideology that would cost corporate America the most money is going to take your liberty. Get the working class to fight their battles for them, what’s new lol.

    • @michaelgraffam5423
      @michaelgraffam5423 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@RK-ej1to You need to do some introspection, I'm afraid.
Liberalism of the 90s is dead -- which is exactly why there was the "walkaway" campaign. Democrats held the working class since forever, but that changed and the working class abandoned Hillary and voted for Trump. In the 90s, when Republicans were trying to outlaw burning the flag, I could agree with liberals on the first amendment grounds "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend your right to say it" -- that is ENTIRELY gone from today's liberalism.
In the 90s, the Republicans were the party of the country club elites and received the corporate donations, and Democrats criticized big money and the corporate power-base. Now Democrats are the corporate power base, the college-educated elites, and the blue-collar workers who voted for someone promising jobs are "deplorable."
The parties have shifted. Big time.
The second amendment is always under threat, and not JUST from Democrats. It was Republicans that first defined the features of "assault weapons" and banned them from import. Clinton used that definition to ban them from domestic production for 10 years.
I don't have a solution to some nut shooting up a place with guns, exactly. Because it should be obvious that it isn't the gun's problem. Full automatics were legally and commonly available in the 60s during incredible social turmoil: but people didn't go on rampages. What changed? Well it certainly wasn't the guns! It's the culture. So, if you want to get serious about stopping mass-murder, lets get serious about talking about the actual cause and not blaming an inanimate object. And Republicans and pro-gun types repeatedly say this, but the anti-gun liberals ignore or, or brush it off. "Yes we need more mental health funding, that should be part of healthcare! But, what about those guns..." YOU may not be particularly anti-gun, but don't pretend like there aren't rapid anti-gunners who do, desperately, want to take them away.
But it isn't just the 2A that "liberal" politicians are letting slide. It's the Democrat-run cities, again out of fear, that have wanted to "lock down" during COVID. Which is a clear violation of the 1A's protection of the right to "peaceably assemble." When Orthodox Jews in NY are getting arrested and struggling with cops over their right to attend synagogue -- you really ought to wake up and take notice of the dangers of the political party doing it. I mean, at least if you give a damn about freedom.
And yes, there are dangers with Republicans too.. abortion rights, for example.
So don't try to pass off this feel-good nonsense that "no one is trying to take your liberties from you" -- read history, dude! LIBERTY IS ALWAYS THREATENED.
Now, you seem to want to make some sort of distinction between the liberal "ideology" and the "liberal" politicians. That's BS, because most people who vote Democrat, do so even when the politicians don't represent your "liberal ideology" so -- in effect, they don't HAVE an ideology in the first place. Same goes for Republicans. The ideology is what the politicians of those parties say it is, and what they do. If you vote for them, what they do is your god damn fault. Period. It doesn't matter what you "believe."
I also don't care who the Republicans "disenfranchise" out of voting. Because no matter what they do, it doesn't go nearly far enough. At a bare minimum the electorate in this country should need to pass the same naturalization test that immigrants pass in order to obtain citizenship and the right to vote. Just the NEED to show up and take a test would knock 70% of the eligible voters out.
That would be an improvement .. but really, it needs to go WAY beyond that, too.
      Ideal requirements to vote:
Filed, and paid your taxes as required for the preceding 5 years.
Passed some series of voluntary tests, where taking, and passing, more tests amplifies the value of your vote.
Justification: If you haven't paid taxes, you're in no position to vote on how tax money is used. Smarter, more informed people will have a weight on the vote, and the opportunity to increase the value of your vote will encourage more people to get informed.

@@RK-ej1to You also started your reply, initially, with 'thats one ass backwards take' .. and then edited it out. So lets just be clear: you're a reactionary, you get pissed whenever someone indicts your little bullshit "liberal" tribe in some way, and then like most hypocritical liberals -- you'll go on to lecture about your ideals, and emphasize how we just need to talk to each other, blah blah.
This sort of thing is PRECISELY why I tend to be able to talk to conservatives better these days. We can explore areas of disagreement, but there is never a sense of being lectured to, AND its never claimed that I must come up with some alternative solution before offering a criticism or objection, as you did, and liberals often do "well, you need to come up with a better idea or else we'll ban guns/magazines" .. blah blah.
Liberals: "We don't want to take your liberties away. We just want to take your guns away."
Conservatives: "Yes, we want to ban abortions. No, it shouldn't be a right."
      See the difference?
Liberty is always at hazard, from one side or the other. Its just a fact. But I respect conservatives for being able to be honest about it. I deeply distrust those that piss down my leg and tell me its raining.

Doug's story of the psychology evaluation really reminded of my experience in elementary school. I was/still am into horror, gore, just kinda dark "spooky" things. I would draw pictures of horrific violent things, or write stories where I or my friends died. This led to multiple meetings between my mom and teachers. Likely my mom knew I was fine and just liked weird stuff...... Ps the school system did end of crushing my spirit and I stopped writing even after winning a few small local awards for it.

Glad someone pointed this out as well. Not surprised at some responses deflecting and conflating. Most psychopaths dong actually go out of their way to harm people O even if OP stated that vhe 11 yr old was showing signs of psychopathy, there is no need to jump right to serial killer. Almost all serial killers are psychopathic but very few psychopaths are serial killers.
Also very seriously for an 11 year old is what was done. Not like they said lobotomize him and lock him up for good. I know more people think these things than actually say them. Saying them is a sign of sorts. Even if its just pushing buttons when a child or someone you care for does this, it is often wise to react to it and not just pretend its 'normal.'

When my mum tried to dissuade me from the worst parts of that, the fact it was forbidden just increased my interest in it. Together with being class clown, my teachers began to seriously worry about my mental health and sent me to therapists and counselling daycare-type place once or twice a week.
