  • If you’re a fan of basketball, from any era, unless you live in a pineapple under the sea, you’ve heard of the Fab Five, a group of 5 freshman who played for the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball program beginning in 1991, and immediately became household basketball names on any level, a lot because having 5 top recruits all head to the same program was unheard of at the time. Known for their baggy shorts, Black socks and black air max 180 sneaker, bald heads and extreme talent, the five freshman created an entirely new culture in college basketball early on and it translated on the court as well. In come the Fab Five II in King and Jackson’s senior year. Another powerful recruiting class, featuring another top high school prospect and Naismith and Mississippi player of the year, as well as first team all American 6’9 power forward Jerod Ward, Second team all American 6’8 forward Willie Mitchel, another 6’9 power forward Maurice Taylor, 6’5 point guard Travis Conlan, and 6’9 Maceo Baston to round out what many assumed would be the next best thing to come through Ann Arbor Michigan. Only much like the original Fab Five, they managed to have all that talent and fall short of their potential. The FAB FIVE '2' Came Nowhere Close To Their Potential! What Happened? Stunted Growth

Who remembers the Fab Five 2? The five that tried to resurrect Michigan basketball after the original Fab Five had everything stripped from them, but didn't come close to living up to the high school hype.

That wasn't true about the original. I was on campus then. Everyone knew that there was hatred going on between the the upper class men especially from Detroit. Talley purposely told Webber to call that time out. Look at who Webber was yelling at. And remember who took Talley spot in line up the year before. Cooley and Southwestern had a rivalry

You can also add in the coaching style or system. This team should have been a pressing team. They had no post up type player, to get an easy basket.

Imo, as far as the first stunt goes I don't think there was an issue of being unwanted I just think Coach Fisher knew what time it was as far as the true ability of the fab five 2. Coach may have saw the hype getting to their heads and decided the youngsters needed a public reality check.

I'm from Michigan and was in high school when this team was together. Baston was a beast dunking on everybody and solid on defense as well.
Travis Conlan was turnover city. We needed a real pg.
