Pile 4 girrrl I quit my corporate job on Friday. I was tired of the negativity and micromanagement and honestly I think I’m just done with corporations period!! On to the next chapter! I didn’t finish this reading yet but when I heard you mention getting fed up and leaving, I knew I picked the right pile. And I’m so done with gaslighting myself into being polite, if something feels off I’m trying to be better at sticking with my gut which is why I left the job too! Amazing… you know, I’ve learned my lessons in past relationships with not speaking up for myself when I’ve been disrespected… and I learned to not only speak up sooner, but to be clear and articulate exactly what I feel in an honorable way. I was single for 3 years before dating this new guy and of course, nothing is ever perfect… so I did my part with articulating what I needed to and make sure it was clear that I was coming from a place of wanting to collaborate and figure things out together. But over time, I realized that my efforts served no purpose because he never put anything we had agreed to work on into action. So, it was a lesson in learning the fine balance between allowing someone that grace to figure themselves out and act in alignment with who they want to be/ can be… but also, not lose sight of when being too empathetic and understanding is actually hurting me. I ended up telling him I could’nt continue on until he was clear enough on wanting to be diligent and put his words into action. I think I did a pretty good job this time around. Yes, it was pretty much the same lesson in the form of another guy, but I did approach it differently this time. So that, I am proud of. This time around, it took me less time to be discerning and recognize these old patterns of behavior not only in myself but the patterns in him that I’ve encountered in my previous partners. This last guy wasn’t AS toxic as my last couple relationships- those were really bad where I was made to feel minuscule at all times and they were incredibly domineering. But I stayed single for 3 years to really evaluate myself and heal. So I was approaching this new relationship with a new level of maturity and confidence. It sucks that he wasn’t willing to collaborate with me in the healthiest way at this time… but I hope he’s able to maybe extract some wisdom from our time together… enough to make amends with himself- if only for better health.
