13:52 Hey Sandy I bought a Woodland Mills HM126 because of you. I love it. One thing I wish woodland Mills would do is put a throttle stop on the engine so that you can give it a little bit of gas while trying to start it. It's almost like you need one hand on the pull rope and one hand on the throttle. It takes twice as many pulls to finally get it started.
As far as the torque wrench is concerned, I bought the woodland Mills tool boxes that fit on the frame. Yes they were expensive but damn they aren't nice. I bought two of them. All my tools fit inside including my log stops. And they look good

Funny, Sandy, the first thing I noticed, before you commented on it, was the fact you were not bending over to watch the cut. Maybe elevate the bunks on your other machine. Woodland Mill should be sponsoring you; you're a good salesman for their product.......

So Sandy. Congratulations on joining the Hm130max clan. It's funny, quirky, whatever you want to call it... Here is my quick story. In Fall of 2019 we wanted to get a mill. We watched many videos and yours made cents with cost analysis etc. Through that process we have become avid watchers and occasional commentors. As you describe in your last video the higher working surface is much nicer. OK now to bring the whole story back around. We did not order the trailer package with the mill. I milled and built a base so the mill sits approx 2 feet off ground with a log deck to roll logs onto. We are biting the bullet now to get the trailer for the ease of transport and potential of doing jobs locally.
Thank you for your videos. I did want to start a channel myself, however the editing and so on seem daunting. We'll catchya on the next one. 👍😁

I bought a HM130 Max based heavily on the review you did comparing all of the saw brands and price points. It was my first saw, so I went with the 130 Max right out of the gate. It's been great! I have been super-satisfied with the saw and the customer support from Woodland Mills. So thanks for pointing me in their direction Sandy! Looking forward to how you work the new saw and any lessons you learn.

Exactly the same mill I purchased, (I went w/16' extension). So far I've only had minor adjustments and modifications. Cables stretch a little at first, so check periodically. I put a pen through the bottom of the log clamps. Now they can't fall out. Use that nice ratchet strap if your transporting on rough terrain or any distance. Keep up the good work. Now I feel like I'm really sawing with Sandy.
    Be well my friend.

Hey sandy i have the exact sawmill , and have to say I love it! The trailer extensions and loading ramps with a winch are a great addition even if u have a tractor. I’ve rolled on big 25-28 “ 14 foot oak logs with ease using the ramp system. I was in doubt when I saw the ramps but they do work well, just welded a few more anti slip pieces on the ramps cause I found the logs wanted to slip right at the point of coming onto the mill . Your back will thank you with no more bending over

Hi sandy. Hi from Australia. You always can raise the indoor sawmill and don't forget to put a laser on the portable one and you are so lucky to get a parcel of land with a lot of timber on it. you told me how many acers how many acres with trees. It is so hard to find acreage with some timber here. I think most people clear the land to make a look better

Howdy Sandy- I think I could hear the excitement in your voice. Glad you got the new boy up and running. My hearing is not too good so I couldn’t hear the clutch ping which is something I really struggle with on my mill. I always look to see if it moves when idling. Love the effort you put in your videos. Take care and God bless

I homebuilt my sawmill last year and have made several upgrades as I have used it. The one thing I wanted out of my mill was to be portable, but I didn't have the funds or material to do that right away. I found out very quickly having the saw bed close to the ground wasn't going to satisfy my back for long. I "bit the bullet" and acquired the additional materials and fabricated a trailer system to complete a portable mill. It's not perfect and has that homemade look, but it will cut anything I need or want, plus a few of the neighbors have expressed an interest in having a log or two milled. I think you will enjoy your new mill!!

Super pumped for you Sandy! You definitely have a great tool there and that’s going to open up more opportunities for you for sawing! Good catches on the engine set up with the throttle cable and idle speed. Little tip to offer, you should if you haven’t already perhaps familiarize yourself with the other two methods for blade tensioning. Just thinking ahead, lol if that was me and I was say at another location away from the shop and had to tension the blade.. but forgot the torque wrench at home.. could be a bit of a delay.. but where the manual is in the tube, not that big of a deal I guess.. but was just something I thought of, because that would be first thing Id do is go and forget the torque wrench at home lol!! Anyways Your videos are excellent, great camera angles, great discussion and directions! Really looking forward to seeing whats next in this playlist and seeing this mill in action! Cheers Sandy!

The only change I plan on making is having my log deck on the off side so I can take my lumber from the operator side straight to the drying shed. This new mill looks like it will work out well. I noticed the same thing. My HM122 is mounted close to the ground, I can just step over it to get to the other side of the track, with it on the trailer you have to do a lot more walking. Trade-off for the ability to move it around easily I guess.

    • @sawingwithsandy

It will be a great addition I'm thinking for sure. I'm actually able to reach the log by just leaning a little to move it. Nice new mill Sandy. I like the idea of having one stationary mill and one on a trailer. Woodland makes a nice product however the wood mizer mills are interesting because of the log capacity, width and thickness capabilities. They are expensive though. That will be what I look at down the road a ways, one of the industrial mills. Anyhow great videos, keep them coming.

    • @douglasroseveare7295

@@kenlangille9050 For sure. They do cost a bundle but the capability far exceeds most of what is available as far as log load, log diameter and board thickness. The Woodland mills are very good bang for your buck if you are just doing a little bit here and there and I really like the wide bunks for moving logs around and not digging into the log if your doing live edge stuff. I also like the rail system and the metal band wheel cover with the thumb screw knob.
Some friends and I purchased a Norwood HD 36V2 with the hydraulics and it works pretty good. The hydraulics added a lot to the invoice but are pretty much a must for some of the trees we are milling and makes things faster and easier to put in long days without wearing out physically. The narrow bunks I am not a fan of and also do not care for the plastic band wheel cover with rubber straps. They are annoying. Also it took way more time than they say to assemble because of how many pieces it arrived in. There was 200 bolts in the frame and rail system alone and probably close to 500 fasteners total. It was a lot of work. At the same time I doubt any portable mill is perfect and it is the one of if not the most customizable and highest capacity mill in that price range.
One of the industrial wood-mizer mills are hopefully in the cards someday but I will probably end up settling for something smaller than those and just set it up so it will be stationary.

Sandy I was having clutch burn out problems with mine and they told me that the engine needed to reach 3800 RPM for the clutch to operate properly. So I bought a digital tack off of amazon and installed it ,so I could tell what it is running at. And I use a four foot level to set the trailer plus frame up to level ,before cutting.

Magnificent, it looks like a beast but I do know that I must take into consideration that the camera adds 10 lbs. 😝😝
I’m considering getting the bush lander attachment for my 122 just for the purpose of moving it where I need it on my property rather than building a permanent structure for it. Of course I’m going to have too try and sell some of my lumber to pay for it, so I’m hoping that that’s possible. Time will tell.
Great purchase, I’m jealous but you put in the effort of this channel to make it happen. I’m just too introverted to drum up the energy to do such a thing so selling lumber is a better option for myself. Good on ya mate.

That throttle control bar is going to be a elbow buster when cranking on the height adjuster. WM could also improve the log stop holders, they aren’t heavy duty enough for turning the big ones, I replaced mine with 3/8” tubing. Hope you get good use on it, looking to see how long it takes before any of the usual issues arise.

Yeah WM has a few things they need to take care of. I mill a lot of big logs, close to max capacity on a hm130 and it is not a great experience. WM is cheap china garbage tbh. Milling smaller logs below half capacity is alright for the price of such a mill. But don't ever buy WM and think you're going to use it for 20-30in hardwood logs, it will make you cry and want to drive it to a landfill. Buy a used real brand instead like woodmizer, wirex, baker, cooks, etc if you want to produce and be effective with bigger logs.

    • @bluethunder1951
      @bluethunder1951 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@rorschacht8478 I agree, they could make improvements on somethings that, wouldn’t add any cost to them it would lower the price if anything, the two end bunks that never see a log on them, could be angle iron, savings there could go to better log stop holders.

Glad to see it up and running brother... Cant wait to see the mill out and working..
Are you planning on extending the trailer at all? Its a nice add-on but definitely makes it harder to take out on your trails if needed..
I extended mine to 24 feet and its a bear moving around the property now on my hilly trails..
One thing Ive noticed, when i extended my mill it did allow the trailer to flex a little more than normal. So when you set up to saw some logs make sure you use a small level when setting the down riggers. Dont wanna be milling with a twisted log bunk.. Im actually thinking about leveling mine out perfectly then adding permanent RV levels in clear view near all the down riggers..
Keep up the hard work there Sandy..👍👍

Nice! If you can fiddle the two small washers so they're between the handle and throttle assy, it'll pivot freely without the need to pull the lever back - didn't see that clarity in the manual. Did you verify the throttle was bottoming out on the stop at full throttle?... mine was not a simple cable adjust, it was greatly restricted by the lubrication switch and needed the mounting bracket adjusted. Need everything I can get for the 30+ inch firs I'm working with! Happy sawing, cheers

I have been watching your videos for maybe a year now and i resently got my own sawmill that are as similar as an almost direct copy of WM.s but with a 420cc lifan engine and I Wonder what oil you use or recomend? I went to Husqvarna store and bought their branded oil för 4stroke snowmower engines.. 5w/30.. Due to de user manual fore The engine one should only use SAE 30 that qualifies för warmer klimatets over +10°c and now we got around +2°c as warmest... Would you recomend another oil or should i kontinue with Husqvarna oil? Thank you for youre videos! Thanks to you ive got both inspiration and motivation to get started with milling and to understand many benefits to make my own lumber.. Is your lubrication system functioning? It looks like you're missing a spring that rides the throttle cable that engages the lubrication valve's actuator plate when the throttle is engaged, to start the lubrication flow. [Edit: Page 107 in the manual, #86 in the exploded view, part 0005578 and looking at time 20:51 in the video]

But i want to ask you, what extra equipment should i order with?
i will youse tractor with frontloader to load logs onto the sawmill, so i dont need the loader equipment, but anything else, you suggest i order with?
i have mostly pine upto 75cm diameter.
    Best regards from Norway.

    • @sawingwithsandy
      @sawingwithsandy  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Carl, great to hear from you. I think the best thing to have is a cant hook. Really helpful to maneouver the log around on the mill. I also would look into a sawmill bed extension if you're going to be milling wood above 8' as I find the extra space is helpful and requires you to not have to move around the log end to end too much. Other than that maybe some extra blades just to keep ya sawing. It's a bit of a decision on how you wnat to sharpen your blades but if you have someone local who sharpens them that would work other wise you could look into sharpening equipment. Hope that helps and feel free to get back in touch with me with any questions, Thanks again for watching!
