Chloe, I relate to this so much. I didn't have toilet anxiety, buy developed a fissure after childbirth. Like you, I went through all the creams and nothing helped. Countless Dr visits with no resolution, I was desperate. I remember saying to my husband - If I have to live like this, I can't see how I can. Sheer agony and it destroyed my life and mental health.
One day I was at work and the pain got so intense, I was dealing with a client, cold sweats coning down my face with the pain. I couldn't take it anymore and I burst into tears there and then.
My manager got straight on the phone so go about organising a private referral.
A week later I was in getting a sphincterotomy.
The first visit to the toilet at home I passed out.
But each day I got better. Fast forward 13 years and I'm still pain free. Surgery was a complete success and I'm so glad I did it. No issues with incontinence either.
I just wanted to give you a positive story because I know how horrendous it is. ❤

It’s a horrible feeling and it’s hard to imagine if you’ve never suffered from toilet anxiety. I also can’t go for walks anywhere unless I know where the toilets are, and unfortunately sometimes have had accidents 🙈
I used to take Imodium regularly just to feel in control but ended up in hospital due to not being able to go because I was badly constipated!! 🤷‍♀️
You are very very brave to do this video, and I’m sure it will help so many people.
Definitely get a Radar Key, they are brilliant.
Take care lovely lady. Big hugs. Xxx

I’m so sorry to hear you suffer too Carol. I’m the same with walks, I have to go either somewhere close by or in the woods somewhere so if worst comes to worst there’s always somewhere I can hide and go 😂🙈 oh bless you. I over used Imodium too so I can totally relate. Thank you very much for sharing and for your lovely comment. I have a radar key on me at all times, helps massively! Thank you again take care too! Chloe, anal fissures do heal. I’m a retired ICU Nurse so this is what happens if you were in the Hospital here in the States… Fiber. Use fiber gummies or Metamucil or Benefiber, they’re all the same. Metamucil comes sugar free. I deal with constipation no matter what I eat so I get it and for you to talk about this on TH-cam, this is a super important topic. You just want to stop having to over bear down and squeeze because this isn’t ever a good idea. You take this before bed, it will help you by morning and you’ll be calmer which will reduce your anxiety. Make sure you eat your greens like salad, veg and apples because they help. High fiber bread, I eat a high fiber English muffin and that works to keep me from having issues. Understand that it will get better over time and you’ll heal.❤ I enjoy your videos. I lost 5 stones in the past. Gained 2 stones. Now I am needing to get that 16 lbs off to get to my low. Your videos help me a lot. I’m American from Florida. It is July 4th, heat index is up. Thank goodness for air conditioning. I think your weather cooled down a bit?

Whether it's doing a video without makeup, or in your pjs, with noise in the background or being super real and genuine about your struggles - you are amazing! It's as if you've just read my diary. I've never resonated with a video as much as I have with this one. The triggers of your anxiety are identical to mine, I've got a trip coming up that includes a coach trip for around 20 miles and it's making me dread this one in a lifetime trip. The traffic trigger is the same for me too. I always have to be in my own car, the thought of the anxiety coming when I'm in someone elses car that I'm not comfortable with is just dreadful. I'm so glad you're talking about this online so openly and discussing what is deemed a 'taboo' topic. I feel the need to discuss poop with everyone just so the taboo is eradicated haha. I'm 24 from the UK so around the same age as you, just want to say thank you for making me feel less alone with this anxiety. Our journeys have been so similar from what I've heard when it comes to triggers, medication, and lifestyle. I'm so glad that I found this video randomly today, I will be following you on insta asap! We can get through this girly! xxx

Hi Chloe I suffer from the same toilet anxiety. I can absolutely and truly relate to experiences. I too have had a few accidents which are so upsetting and embarrassing. I think this adds to the anxiety. I now have a disabled toilet key which is handy. Thank you so much for details of the card which I have now downloaded to my phone. I think I will also order the actual card to have in my purse. Many thanks 💕

Thank you so much Chloe for the link to the Bladder Card. I had a Stroke 25 years ago which left me paralysed down the left hand side of my body at that time but of which I recovered apart from a slight limp (and of which I thank God every day). But it left me with such a weak bladder that I will only got for a coffee somewhere that has a toilet or like yourself, I panic about long journeys and find myself not drinking anything so I 'dont have to go' which is detrimental to my health!
I have just ordered my card. Ali xx

Thank you for talking about this. I feel SO alone with my toilet anxiety. It started as anxiety about throwing up (and me carrying a bag with me everywhere), then morphed into fear of throwing up AND shitting myself. The latter is far worse. I'm 28 years old and wearing fucking incontinence pads the fear is so severe. I recently discovered I have IBS, which only cause me to spiral even more. About to start therapy but admittedly don't have high hopes. Toilet anxiety is so exhausting.

  • @sapphire22011

Sorry to hear about your suffering Chloe. I can relate in ways because I've suffered with IBS for years. It tends to come in flare ups and will alternate between being constipated and then other times having the runs. It's the times when I have the runs thats the issue as there are tines when its just not possible to avoid leaving the house, and I get really bad anxiety on those days which of course only makes an accident 100% more likely. Have u tried the flower remedies u can buy them in the chemist or valerian or kava root tablets from your local health food shops? Both of these are natural calmers and just help u naturally to relax a little more. When you're in the car I'd also suggest an 'emergency kit' for if the worst DOES happen - perhaps keep a bag in your car boot with a change of clothes, baby wipes, and a few scented nappy sacks just in case. Third thing I found helpful and is very soothing in the bowel and helps reduce inflammation in the bowel and constipation - is pure, high quality aloe Vera juice. I started taking it 2 tears ago and irs made a big difference in reducing the amount and frequency of attacks I get and its also a great stool softener and it's natural. I won't lie - its not very pleasant to drink but u only need about 10-15mls a day and u can disguise it in a smoothie or a juice. You can buy flavoured versions but they tend to be more expensive, the flavour doesn't really taste of anything really, so I just stick to the plain version and add it to my juice in the mornings. It's also very good for most digestive issues ny friend had stomach issues and was taking 2 nexium acday, but with aloe Vera she's reduced her disease now to 1/2 tablet every 2 days. I buy the Forever Living brand but not sure I'd its available innthe UK I advise getting a high quality quality juice rather than stuff our of H & B which tend to be inferior quality, and filled with nasties.

Hi Chloe, thanks for this video, I have also been going through hell with needing the loo on travel which had become such a fearfull and incredibly painful experience for me, but you may be pleased to hear that I have turned a corner with this and it is by using these two products, quite by chance on researching for a completely different reason a found this information which lead me to buying this product, in its essential form it is chlorophyll, the digestive system needs it and cannot tell you how amazing it makes my stomach feel, and the last product which lions mane which is a mushroom which has been used for along time in places like Asia, it really help cull anxiety. Today I have spent all day out and about driving and going to a place of recreation miles away from any toilet and felt no dying need to get there at all. This is a full turn around and if this has done it for me then can only hope that it does it for others, the benefits of taking these products in my view are like changing because of the amazing energy, and clarity lift, and reduction in hunger that taking these together provides. I found the products on amazon and were inexpensive, .
    1 lions mane 2000mg
    2 spirulina chlorella 1500mg
    Take care

This is totally me. I hate it!! mine is more in social situations just out of the blue in the middle of a conversation, or when I can't go to the bathroom like doctor's appointments and the dentist which is awful because I don't seek help. Because seeking help gives me more toilet anxiety. 😢 Mine started when I worked on an automotive assembly line and they wouldn't let me go to the bathroom. I'm sorry you are dealing with pain on top of it 😓 The most I did was give myself hemorrhoids 😬

I know that you need the therapy side but a couple of things to suggest are, instead of the pads you can buy pretty Tena pants for bladder weakness and i am getting some to wear under a swimming costume. Also regarding when driving, could you maybe get a campervan where you would have a little loo always with you and so may ease your worry straight away? You possibly wouldn't need it if you know its there and you can just pull over if you do. Take care lovely xxx

You've been so strong. I'm sorry for the pain you've been through. I experience toilet anxiety with regard to passing urine. Hypnotherapy helped me mentally. But I find I still feel physical tension down there. Slow and continual exhalation helps dampen the physical symptoms (heart racing, etc.). I would be curious to know if anyone with need-to-go-now anxiety has tried muscle relaxation training.

Wow. Thank you so much for talking about this. It’s so embarrassing but I’ve struggled with this since I was a child! I’m talking Kindergarten-1st grade. Leading me to eventually drop out of school. Can’t hold employment. It is so consuming and a constant worry. It’s hard to explain to someone who doesn’t “get it” but just know you aren’t alone!!! I’ve also got IBS, Autism, social anxiety and OCD. It’s also caused me to develop agoraphobia. Nothing has ever helped. Been to therapy and doctors off and on since childhood and accused of “just wanting attention or to skip school”. 🙄 It’s also caused an off and on obsession with taking PEPTO. Only thing that’s slightly taken the worry away even if it’s just placebo. Ugh. 😣

I was just in your place 3 years ago(your age as well) and my toilet anxiety just got tremendously milder. To me what helped is that the people around me are understanding and even when I ask for the 1000th time "what If I will have an accident?" or "what if there's no toilet around?" they always always always anwser that there will be no problem, or we will find a toilet or we will menage etc. so even if you're alone it's basically assuring that it's not a big deal when something happens and I have a protocol (lol), I had no accidents in years, lots of emergency situations for sure tho, but older I get I can hold it for longer periods of time and even count how many minutes I have till it'll be too late! I still have thoughts but now I manage to calm myself down and urge goes away even tho the moment ago I thought I will shit myself (but if I went to the toilet at that moment I would definitely go and traumatize the toilet lol)lol so I reason with myself and tell that it will go away and it does, but it takes years of hard work (and intentional exposition to triggers!) to get to this place and have moderately normal life

Bless you Chloe. Must be soo annoying because you've tried the tablets and the therapy.
It's fight or flight. So your in 'flight'. All the blood rushes to your organs and muscles. You get rid of all the poo and wee so that your lighter to run away from said 'threat'. And blood rushes to your arms and legs so you can run. The threat being the traffic/lack of toilet etc. I had this and luckily mine has gone but I do get very panicky in traffic still but its more of a fear of being stuck/trapped. I have had to use the toilet in so many strange places, I feel.your pain

You are amazing for sharing this, and I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I had not heard of toilet anxiety before and I really hope you are able to find options that help you ❤
I have issues with my poo over the years and had a colonoscopy a few years ago. I didn’t know anyone else who’d had one so it became much scarier than it needed to be. I also get anal fissures after being constipated, although much milder. I would dread going to the loo and seeing blood.
I find I don’t always get enough fibre on SW and it leaves me backed up, I recently had to go to the drs as the constipation was giving me pain in my ribs. I was given molaxole and being able to have ‘normal’ stools for the first time in a long time felt incredible. We should all talk more openly about 💩 xxx

Omg I have this same exact anxiety but then with peeing. Also I am the same age as you. I’m trying exercises to make it better and to learn to trust my body again. It started a year ago when I had such a bad bladder infection I constantly had to pee and at times I couldn’t hold it in resulting into peeing my pants a little bit. These situations gave me such anxiety. Because of medication the symptoms went away and i didn’t think about it anymore. It made me go to the toilet quite a lot tho resulting into a overstimulated bladder. Now I feel pressure to pee quite quickly and this creates obsessive thoughts about having to pee (which makes me actually need to pee) If I am not around a toilet the obsessive thoughts kick in immediately. Two weeks ago I almost peed my pants on the bus and this kicked me right back into severe toilet anxiety. Its scary how quickly this type of anxiety can escalate and influence your life. I am going to continue my exercises and hope this will better the situation. It definitely helps to hear other people talk about it. Thanks for your openness and good luck with your own process! 😊

Hi Chloe, I've just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for talking about your experience with toilet anxiety, i found it really helpful. The one thing I find exacerbates my need to use the toilet is if I have a full bladder, so I try to go for a wee as often as possible. Have you tried yarrow? It's a herbal ointment. It really helped me as I caused myself haemorrhoids after doing keto. It may help you hopefully with your fissure. X

I get panicked when I don’t know where public toilets are. (I know it’s not as bad as your problem)but I am afraid I will wee myself. If I am going on public transport I wear them pull on knickers for incontinence. It just makes me feel less worried and panicked. I have had actual full on anxiety when I couldn’t find a toilet and have actually wet myself. I was mortified. You can get really nice incontinence knickers that are discrete under clothes. This sounds really challenging Chloe. Anxiety actually starts in the body so by the time you’re thinking about it your body is way ahead. Talking therapy can only do so much. Learning how to shift the anxiety from your body is key. This is what has changed my life. Have you heard of somatic therapy? I think it might be helpful for you. Also maybe read The body keeps the score.

Hey Chloe, so sorry to hear you are going through this, but amazing that you are sharing your story as sometimes 💩 carries a taboo (poet and I know it 😅) ❤
I also had toilet anxiety too but luckily mine only happens a couple of times a year. I would definitely say time is a healer.
I tried ALL the medication, but the one that helped was loperamide. At one point I think I was taking the max dosage, don’t quote me on this but I think it was 8 tablets by the doctor.
I had therapy through Big Moose which is the cafe in Cardiff! I saw Graham. He taught me lots of techniques and helped me reduce my medication.
Loperamide is great and maybe you could take it every time you go in the car so you know that you won’t be able to 💩 but also my concern was that I had to stop relying on tablets, but maybe you can slowly reduce as you feel more confident?
I had to remember just like you that it was all in my head, but ofc very real. Your toilet anxiety is triggering your flight/ fight mode and your body is getting rid of any waste e.g poo to make yourself lighter so you can run away. Interesting primal instincts! The body concentrates it’s energy on pumping your blood to your major muscle organs. Focus on learning techniques to soothe your parasympathetic nervous system.
I would recommend medication, therapy and giving time.
It seems that you have a very strong mind, e.g every time you see traffic you may tell yourself or think I’m going to poo like you say if I take this sugar table I’ll be fine. Therapy will be really helpful in redirecting your through process and neurons.
I didn’t get on with NHS therapy as it didn’t go ‘deep’ enough. I would recommend Graham from Big Moose, Sarah Hudson from Harley Therapy or try hypnotherapy (but this isn’t one I try).
Don’t be too harsh on yourself and you’ll get there ❤❤❤

Diet- I’ve eliminated beef completely; I drink loads of water; I only eat wild caught salmon and organic chicken and gluten free carbs (load of sweet potatoes)- in short all things organic and clean for breakfast flax seed oatmeal then supper night time higher fiber cereal…. Hi.. its 00:31 so just past midnight so ideally I need to go to bed.. my problem isn't the same but I see an errigation nurse S Bathgate. Via Wiston and St Helens hospital, is I problems with my bowel due to being Fructose Intolerant. (Can't eat fruit etc which is a natural laxative) so I get chronically constipated. I have a large rectoceal and an internally prolapsed bowel. So I shouldn't strain when needing a number 2! As I will make my condition even worse... but... have they not suggested warm water errigation to you??? I get errigation kits on perscription of which I can do at home.. the warm water going up your bumper softens the stool and then gravity flushes it right out... No more splitting my backside open to get the dry rocky boulders out, then bleeding fishers and piles.. i do a flush every other day.. so easy, a much more pleasant toilet experience... ps the discreet pants woukd work better in the meantime than pads. As the pants would capture everything and then be disposed of.. I could write more but I have work tomorrow. Nite. X

You’re so brave telling your story so frankly like this. It will really help people feeling the same ❤. As someone that has done both CBT and EMDR for PTSD & health anxiety I really recommend EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy). I personally needed to tackle the PTSD for my situation as this was the main root of my health anxiety. This really helped my PTSD symptoms and helped me understand and accept my trauma. I would definitely recommend taking a look into it to see if you think it will suit you. I then did the CBT course on the NHS after this and believe this has worked far more than it would have done without the EMDR first. I’m no therapist but I know from personal experience that our brain blocks out traumatic experiences even if you don’t think it was one at the time (similar to what you have described about the coach transfer when you were younger). So it might be worth a go. I felt so lost at the beginning of my journey to get better and I know how you feel with the frustration of it taking over your life ❤. Hope this helps and I’m sending lots of love 💕

So good but awful to finally hear someone experience the same thing as me x the only thing that has helped me but I don’t think has made it go away is EMDR therapy, I could pinpoint some trauma and address it when it gave me instant stomach ache in the sessions and I knew that was where it started, I felt calmer after it and could regain control a bit better but definitely think I need more sessions as 1.5 years later I’m back to looking for the nearest toilet 😞xx but deffo look into it

OMG everything you said about fissures is so true. I was on antibiotics and got constipated and strained too much and that was it. I thought it was a hemorrhoid but I went to a colorectal doc and after exam she said it was an anal tear. She prescribed diltiazem which is
a blood pressure med in an ointment which is supposed to relax the muscle but it doesn't really help much.(you had somewhat of the same stuff but a different name)
I recently had mine cleaned up and cauterized under sedation but it still hurts. It doesn't hurt when I pass poo and never had blood but it hurts like hell after and all day. It doesn't matter how soft it is and I never strain at all because I take magnesium citrate and a stool softener. The magnesium always helped me for years but I didn't take it when I was on antibiotics cause it said don't take magnesium, it might interfere with the antibiotic. UGHHH...that was why I am in this place now
.It's all you think about right...day and night and when you wake up you're afraid to go poo cause you know it'll hurt after. I have used every kind of cream and spent SO much money on this damn thing.I have used lidocaine and also Desitin diaper rash ointment that helps somewhat to kind of coat it.
I like you would never wish this on anybody cause there's no magic cure except that surgery which cuts the spincter muscle which can leave you incontinent! No pain but shit your pants...WTF? I am older and have had two kids so I think it might be worse for me if I had that. Maybe I will opt for botox injection next but my doc said it's expensive. I should have done that in the first place instead of all the stuff I have bought! Thank you for being so honest.Have you tried sitz baths? They help relax the muscle too. Helps somewhat. The reason it doesn't heal is because that muscle is SO tight it restricts blood flow which would heal the damn thing. That's where the botox helps I guess.God bless you and my you and I and all the others heal from this terrible thing!

It's a horrible feeling that worry isn't it. I used to have a portable potty in the back of my car but my CBT therapist told me to get rid of it otherwise it'll always be something I rely on and I would panic so much if it wasn't in the car for whatever reason. But I think it did give me so much more comfort knowing it was there so I might just bring its back to the car TBH. Thank you so much for re-recommending that. My top tip to anyone suffering with anal fissure.. hemorroids.....1. cooled boiled water through the day...I start my day with two black coffees which triggers things moving...sometimes need a 3rd cooled boiled water and maybe a banana...Some fibre breakfast. Two kiwi. I avoid anything with white flour. Personally I have a jar of asparagus, soups. You find what suits you. Keep well hydrated. I do take stool softeners. When the time comes to open bowels. I don't sit down until I know it's about to happen. No pushing .no pressure .a few seconds and I'm done. I had Hemorroids recently..(never again) can't imagine the agony of a fissure. Keep everything nice and soft. Aaahhhhhh!
