I can understand that the 24 Lux is a huge lens for leica shooters, especially with the added filter, but for me personally it is ok. Not good - size wise, not bad. I am used to carry cameras around my neck all the time, so packability and pocket size is not that important. But yes, after several days me shoulder gets a bit sore. However, image quality / look is that important to me that I would never switch to an F2+ 24mm lens just because of the weight reduction, some applies to carrying smaller apsc bodies. And yes, I would absolutely love to have a smaller setup with the same image quality. Doesn‘t exist, so I am stuck with what I have🥲
@@tomweiler , I also always just carry camera on shoulder strap, no bag. How do you feel the lens balances on the M body (I’m on M10 Mono)? And what about viewfinder blockage? Sorry for all the questions, but have been considering this lens for a while now. 😊
Leica shooter here form LA, Wowowo ! love the vibe and quality of the image and beautiful trip ! I feel like I am there with you guys ! amazing! now I have to have a second look at the 24mm lux ! Wowowo
HI! Congratulations for these photographs! they are truly gorgeous. I have the 24mm Elmar 3.8 and I notice that it has edges tending towards cyan... a sort of color shift that I seem to also notice in these images of yours at the edges. Is it normal for Leica 24mm cameras to have this colored vignetting? Have you ever tried to remove it? Thank you
I'm from Paris, also a Leica shooter and it was a pleasure to look at ! My main lens are 28mm and 50mm but damn the 24mm looks gorgeous ! Ps: The M10-D is my dream digital leica camera, the fact that we cannot chimp is a game changer.
Very nice - can you recommend some preset packs to get that look? Is it the RNI pack? I find this lens has a special look - did you at some times feel it is too wide? How do you like 24mm?
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend some as I did not use a preset pack for the look of the images. But the Tiffen Black Pro-Mist (1/4 strength on 24mm focal length) helped a lot to get that look in terms of light and contrast. I like 24mm, that´s basically the only focal length I am using for about 10 years now. Definitely not the best for any kind of portraits but perfect for documentation style photography as there is always so much happening in the pictures.
@@tomweiler Thanks Tom, I am surprised how good the lens itself to document your life with your family. I always thought 24 is a tiny bit too wide, but actually the Summilux has a beautiful rendering wide open and it is great to see some examples as it is a rare lens and quite expensive and to my understanding now also out of production. I think the value of pictures appreciates over time as you get older and these will be a treasure in the future for you and your loved ones. Thank you for bringing the 24mm to my attention!! On the look, I suppose this is the quality of the Leica colours which plays into this incl. the pro mist. There's a reason why people admire Leica, I now get it. There seems to be a special way how the Summilux "swallows" light wide open as evidenced by the glow which is of course amplified by your filter ... fantastic documentation pics!
@@tomweiler Tom I plan also to get a pro mist filter as per your inspiration. I didn't find a contact detail on your webpage; do you have experience with the different strength grades? Can you mainly recommend 1/4 or did you also try other strengths? Best, Pablo
@@Pablo-px3ct I read a lot on reddit regarding that topic "mist filter focal length" and from what I understood, the wider the focal length, the stronger the filter must be due to more content in your image. So 1/8 on a 50-85mm roughly compares to 1/4 on 24-35mm or 1/2 on 21mm and wider. And I watched a ton of comparison videos on youtube with the filters, but this one here was the most helpful: th-cam.com/video/9Mf9h2OYwbM/w-d-xo.html
Good to revisit Paris by watching your photos/video. Twenty years since I've been there. I recently picked up a second hand Elmar-M 3.8/24 for my M-P240 at Meister Camera in Hamburg. It's very small and discreet plus a great performer, but has not the same strong bokeh as your LUX 24. I understand, you had a M10P. Can you recommend it? Keep on rolling!
These are shot with the M10D that is basically the M10P just without a screen. M10P/D are lovely cameras! Wonderful images, subtle shutter sound and a lot of fun playing around with it! 100% recommend it! But keep in mind, I never had an older leica, but do also not pay much attention for high ISO capabilities or megapixels, so older leicas might do the thing as well :-)
Merci!
Yep, now I feel a bit ashamed! I just didn‘t think about the ratio beeing 3:2 but took more attention to insert this information in general so that the viewers do not wonder why the video is not in 16:9. And yep, I did the same mistake in my Tenerife video as well (crying quietly rn). I do really say thank you for pointing this out, the next video will mention 3:2! :)
@@tomweiler No big deal. I discovered your bike and hike videos. You got me by a country mile - speaking at least two languages. I was assigned in Germany for 8 years near Landstuhl. They spoke Pälzisch there. So much for my high school German. I miss the biking and hiking. At age 74 and with corona virus lurking around every corner I doubt I'll ever be back to Bayern. Now I'm crying.
Great images that look like analog photos. Spontaneous and personal, I think that's what the Leica M0-D is made for.
How do you find the size and weight for travel? Great vid, man! Cheers

Not that I actually believe I know what I'm talking about or that it's even important, but 4:3? Why not 3:2? Very relaxing program. Thank you.

Really cool photos! I love the lux 24mm, interesting why Leica doesn’t produce it any more…
This is the lens I will be bringing to France this month. It is to be paired with my SL2. I also have my Q2-M for b&w as my backup.
