@@gopakumarpt9160 I've always appreciated the speed of Modric, people never notice this about him for some reason. Messi has great burst acceleration but sadly that 2013 injury robbed him of half his top end speed, Modric has slower explosive acceleration than Messi but he hits a nice pace that flies under a lot of peoples radars. People treat Modric like he is Busquets or something.
Luka Modric left spurs at the age of 27 with 0 major trophies only to go win 23 major trophies a Ballon d'Or leading Croatia to historic world cup finishes and still performing on the biggest stage at the age of 37 this is a greatness
he even played a season in the bosnian league on loan as a teen (and was voted best player of the league i think)

@@sblackofficial Almost Single handedly dragged Croatia to a final I watched every single 1 of their games with my own 2 eyes it's easy for players like Mbappe to use their pace against teams like Argentina who were shocking at WC18 when playing for a team like France... But it's harder to completely take charge of games and dominate them from the midfield against teams like Argentina or England when playing for a team like Croatia.. That's just my opinion tho
I do not judge players by goals scored I judge them by the influence they had on the big games they played in. That's why players like Roy Keane enter the same conversations as Zidane, Ronaldo, Messi for me even while being less physically or technically gifted.
When he played for a great team, he fit right in and became instrumental. When playing for a sub-par team, he excelled and over-achieved.

He won because of a 7 game stretch in a tournament he couldn't even win or put up a big fight in the finals in.

He's the best midfielder of all time. Great at Spurs, best at Real Madrid and with Croatia. Zidane and Iniesta are the only ones close to him, but Modric is better defensively than either of them. Much more consistent than Zidane and better longevity compared to Iniesta.
Modric is no way near better than the likes of Riquelme, Zidane or Ronaldinho. He is playing in a weak era where technical quality has diminished from the sport which is clear to see.

Besides Iniesta had the fortune of playing in a far better national team side at the time, yet still Modric reached a WC final, and he's won a Balon D Or, something Xavi or Iniesta hasn't. Never mind the fact that Iniestas teammates in both Barca and the national team (Xavi, Busquets etc) where players he played together since the academy, they basically know each other on and off the pitch with their eyes closed.

I prefer modric but there is no evidence pointing towards iniesta only being able to play in one system. Also, why does it matter? He only played for Barca during his actual career so why would it matter if he fit into Madrid or athelti or man United system

Modric has achieved everything from individual accolades, club trophies and has made Croatia to be one of the best national teams in international competition. Croatia has been in the semi finals of Euro 2016, FIFA WC 2018 and FIFA WC 2022.
Iniesta and Xavi were just lucky to be born in a footballing nation of Spain and also having the opportunity to train in an elite team like Barcelona from their infancy.
Modric had to survive during a war, walk on nail streets of dreams and climb the ladder of succes barefooted. He never had it easy.
He is the best midfielder in history. The others can follow close.

Man had the balls to leave Tottenham to go and win major honours. Sadly Kane wasted his career at Tottenham.
Also Bale although he didn't stay as fit as Modric. Kane should consider his options before the start of summer imo. At the end of Kane's career (assuming he stays at Spurs), no one will talk about him the way they will about Benzema/Lewandowski.
Kane's best chance to leave was after we beat them in the CL Final. Man City would probably have got him in this case considering Aguero's injuries

Modric is the best midfielder ever. People will say Xavi and Iniesta, but they forget they played with each other (both top5 ever) and Messi (best player ever) and while Modric played with some great midfielders too (Kroos, Casemiro etc) he never had another top10 midfielder with him, let alone top5. Xavi and Iniesta also basically retired at 33. Modric is 37 and still bossing world class midfields around. Yes, Xavi and Iniesta won a world cup, but they did it with the best Spain squad ever, Modric got Croatia 2nd and 3rd place while winning 5 UCLs.

Nostalgia can play a part in debates such as this. For me he would make the greatest team of all time in a midfield of 3 alongside Zidane and one of Gullit or Xavi.

I believe that what makes his game stand out the most is his longevity. Hard to keep at that level for that long, he is hardworking and very intelligent on the pitch. He also has the ability to assume defensive tasks, which I believe sets him apart from other midfielders like Iniesta, Zidane, Riquelme or Pirlo.
If not the best ever, he is at least the best of the last decade. De Bruyne doesn't hold a candle to him.

It's not possible to compare with Iniesta or Zidane. Those two played earlier, and in systems where they had almost exclusively attacking roles. Modric' game is more complex. Modric plays completely central, he has a lot of defensive duties, he is a playmaker, and he can also play attacking midfielder when the situation needs it. The only person who comes to mind, who could be compared to him is Pirlo. But its hard to see anyone even come close to his vision and complex playing style from todays players.
