    what a great guys he is. hes so passionate about numbers so that you automatically think with him through 55mins. it went so fast i cant believe i followed him all the 55 mins and i thought i got attention disorder. im going to watch other videos suggested by youtube, hes just great. hes the perfect teacher. at first he was awkward but then you just start to follow and see what a great great guy he is. he even knows what difficult is for the untrained people so he breaks it down so everyone can understand his thought process. i wonder what his opinion is on common core ...

    It always amazes me that, barring any mistakes that he has to go over, and re-do, he can get the answer to his 5 digit square in just over a minute.

    For guessing the missing digit
    You just need to add all the digits and they must be a multiple of 9
    Eg last one said 662211_ so adding the digits, we get 18 which is already a multiple of nine so the missing digit is zero...similarly, if suppose someone got 547621_ the sum of which is 25. So the nearest next multiple of 9 is 27 (9×3) and the difference of these (27-25) is 2,the missing digit

    • @coreymcdonald7745
      @coreymcdonald7745 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The missing digit is not always 0 if the addition adds up to a multiple of 9… you’re basically guessing a 0 or a 9, but can do it in such a way, like Mr Benjamin does… “I’m getting a lot of nothing… did you leave out a 0?” And if the person says no, you can be like “well that’s strange, cause it seems like you were thinking of nothing. Did you leave out a 9?” Either way, it looks like you got it right.

  • @cgprande
    @cgprande 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have been a fan of Dr. Benjamin since the early 90's, however there seems to be a misperception that being able to do all of this mental numerical manipulation will translate to excellence in a typical high school or college classroom, which isn't the case! I happen to teach math at a local community college and I love doing mental calculations as a sideline but it continues to remain separate from the material that I cover in my courses.
