At 6:27 once a qb begins to slide no defensive player can touch them. A qb can slide giving themselves up on the play effectively downing themselves at the spot of the slide

Oh, and I love it when you wear sweaters (if that's what you call them, too). It makes you look all fuzzy and cozy, and makes me think of Hot Cocoa on a Sunday afternoon, on the couch, cuddling up, watching an old Black & White movies, in the late Autumn - A brisk cool snap in every passing breeze, rattling the orange, red, yellow, brown, and purple leaves, under an overcast sky. Yep... that is your equation: Pretty girl + Sweater = Cozy

Courtney, if you can tell, the NFL has added several new safety rules when it comes to helmet to helmet hits and what they call "targeting" when you deliberately bend down to hit the player with your shoulder pads and/or helmet around the other players head. It's all to prevent concussions, BUT it has kinda ruined the game as these big hits have been a part of the game for so long that it makes it harder for the Defense to play the game without getting penalties.

The one where you missed the replay was the quarterback sliding, at which point the play is automatically over, then getting tackled after he was down, which is a penalty on the defense. I know these hits look brutal, but just keep in mind that 99% of the time, these guys just bounce back up and stay on the field. Not always, though. I played defensive line and got tripped when I got hit on the lower leg by one of the offensive linemen on the other team in college and shattered my left ankle. That was my last game as a player.

NOTE: Recently the NFL has outlawed these big head - to - head hits. The NFL is now concerned about their image. These types of hits were the norm back in the day. Players were taught to use their helmets as a weapon. At the lower levels some players wore helmets that did not fit well. Court you spoke about the slide that the quarterback did at approx. 6:58. The slide signals that the player has surrendered, therefore play over. If you are interested in a video that shows how football use to be played - look up Earl Campbell. The man was a brute of a runner.... As for Garrett's behavior I think he should be arrested.

There is a lot of difference between a good CLEAN hard hit when the guy gets back up and a hard hit where the guy can't or doesn't get back up. Nobody want to see anybody get hurt but there is something about seeing someone get leveled during a play then get back and continue playing.

If you think the Cleveland Browns are the Black Hole of football, the Bucs are the collapsing star...
Where great players go to be forgotten forever!
~ A Bucs season ticket holder (but a Miami fan to the core...logistics)
P.S. yup.. we are absolutely used to watching bones and blood on the battlefield.
Football isn't just a game, it is a battle in a stadium. Look at them like you would look at gladiators.
These men stand well over six feet tall, are well over 250, 300 lb and can run like the wind!
The rules have changed so drastically over the past 20, 30 years in football that it now looks very weak to us compared to the way it used to be. There's much more padding and the rules have been changed to reduce injury.
You should go back and look at the history of football. It actually started in the 1800s.
The reason they call it football is because there was no such thing as a forward pass until 1905. The quarterback handed it off to the tight end or running back and, they just had to push through. The first forward pass was thrown in 1905 and was added to the game after a lot of debate. It was seen as cheating at the time, now we love those 60- yard passes! After all... With the forward pass we get something called the interception!

If you want to watch brutal hits. Watch the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Oakland Raiders from the 1970s and 80s..

I must say, I never get used to seeing huge dudes get stopped in their tracks and absolutely owned. Anyone who has ever played contact football and taken a shot over the middle knows. That ish hurts. Necks and knees are another matter. I hate seeing that stuff. I'm also afraid ole Rudolph may need to sit a while, just for his own health. I wish him luck and all, but shots like those shorten lives.

right? I don't think anyone could get used to it. Mannn it's crazy. And I agree, he's had a very rough season.
