Southern Right whales are extremely sociable. They were almost hunted to extinction because the were very fascinated by the boats and the people on them. They are literally the golden retrievers of the sea.
Disagree there are other animals in the ocean that are a lot more social with humans and nice such as orcas.. Or Dolphins

Maybe they could be used as guide whales for blind divers
I swam with a wild Beluga once just off a dock. There were kids in the water and I decided to get the whale’s attention. Instead of just treading water and slowly swimming like the others were doing, I dove down and starting spinning and doing little things that stood out. The whale immediately cane to me and started trying to mimic me. It got close and let me hold it and pet it. One thing I noticed is that it was a lot easier to communicate with the whale than I was expecting. It seemed very intuitive watching my body language, and it caught in quick that I needed air and didn’t want to go too far from the dock. Incredible experience and possibly the most beautiful moment in my life. Despite the whale being wild and it being a short experience, I felt like I made a friend that day. There was definitely a connection being made that kept that whale by my side as I swam around.
Little "dances" like twirling in the water I think is a sign of playfulness to marine animals like that
@@Mikeygamer1 Yeah, that’s why I did it. I suspected the whale might recognize my intentions. It did so much more than I expected though for a wild animal. I would take water into my mouth and spray in the direction of the whale, it would dip it’s blowhole just under the water and blow and water would spray everywhere, and after doing this back and forth a couple times, the whale must have realized it wasn’t as accurate as I was spraying with my mouth, and swam up to me and placed its snout against my chest and briefly nudged me under water. It was like I was just playing with another kid who couldn’t speak. And it was so gentle with me. You’d think a wild animal would be annoyed by some random kid holding onto its back, but this thing straight up invited it. Would swim under me and take me for little rides like it was delighted that I was having fun. When it went too deep and I let go, it would stop going so deep. When it went out too far and I let go, it came back for me and took me back to the dock. Had my mom horrified for a moment when I seemed to disappear, then just later re-emerged from the water sitting upright on its back with my arm in the air shouting “Free Willy!”. Sometimes I wonder if that young whale found it’s pod after, if it’s still alive, if it remembers. I know it was kinda young, and they live 30-35 years, and this was like 20 years ago. Maybe while migrating one day, it stopped in familiar waters and remembered the boy by the dock. Such a beautiful animal.
If only making friends as adults was that easy 😛

I dont understand why we keep killing them , especially when its so obvious how gentle and sweet they are! Its sickening to me, kind of like killing a big puppy dog!! I feel so sad every time i think about it!
Who keeps killing them? Whaling is illegal in most of the world.
Japan, under the lies of scientific discovery! They dont even care about maritime laws and will cross into any waters and do what they please!! :( They even kill and sell Blue Whale under diff names so they wont get busted!! Norway does whaling too! Plus,Maybe a few others but thats all i can remem atm!!

These are the largest most peaceful and elegant creatures living on our beloved planet, no amount of love can fix the damage we've done to their species but we can defend the newest generations, after all we owe it to these gentle giants, and they're awe inspiring size

So true. As humans we owe it to them to never hurt another one or allow one to be hurt. After all that's been done to them they are still willing to forgive us.
Sinking whalers would be a Start.
Most animals have what I would describe as nerveous eyes, always ckecking their surroundings, whales however have extremely calm and wise looking eyes, it actually looks like they are thinking something. It always fascinates me.
Whales are extremely sentient.
I deeply believe they do think about something !
We might not understand what they think yet and maybe never will.
I also believe all living creatures are capeable to connect somehow, on a much deeper level than language or gestures or body language. And some might be blessed to experience a moment of that connection if the time is right and two living beings are willing to just accept the other one being there, without any intentions, not even touching each other or invading the others space. Sharing a moment, couriously looking at each other .
In human thought process it would probably be...:
"Oh, Hi! .....?
...Hm...It looks funny , i wonder what it is ...Dives like a bird somehow. It isn't able to commuicate, but seems to be somehow aware I am here, it moves depending where I move. ....surely it's no threat, it's tiny . Fascinating. Could it even be intelligent, though it's not able to commuicate?"
It somehow reminds me of children coming from different cultures, who are not even able to speak meeting for the first time. Somehow easy and natural.

@@port8903 it's so rare that killer whales would choose such a difficult meal over other easy options. not when more than 95% of the whales body falls to the ground before they can consume it. as for humans (aka japanese killers) yes you have a point but it's also pretty rare. what I mean is that whales have less predetors than other wild animals. I said "almost"
absolutely stunning. Its crazy that we are looking for intelligent life among the stars when there it is right here in the oceans of our planet.

Actually it's spelled "Right" Whale. Given by whalers because it was the right whale to hunt and kill for it's oil. The caption says "Southern Right Whale" which I think is doing OK. The Northern Right Whale off the Eastern Coast of North America is rapidly going extinct because of humans - a lot of ship strikes. Very sad.

Hi Kelllie, thanks for watching. The white growths you can see are patches of raised tissue called callosities. They are often confused with barnacles because of their white colouration, however, the colour is actually the result of cyamids (whale lice).

What a beautiful creature
Whales together with dogs appear to be the brightest and most sociable animals.
I know it sounds like a weirdo thing to say, but videos like this and videos I have seen of interaction especially with orcas that are insanely intelligent; make me wish we could have a conversation with them and know what they think and feel. How incredible would that be even to know roughly what they are thinking and feeling.

They're trying to use AI right now to decide their sounds so we can understand them and possibly communicate. It would be the first species to species understanding of language and ability to communicate through language

I saw a docu on Greenland whales, one of the most shy and least studied whales there are. Now they are getting more and more friendly; Its turns out, many of them where 100-170 years old and were fiercely hunted by man for lamp-oil and thus became scared. It took about a 100 years for them to learn to trust again and also bring their calves to greet man.
A bond between man and beast is a beautiful thing.

Of all the things I would like to do in my life this would probably be at the top of my list. Just love how curious and playful they are, such gentle creatures for there size. You are so lucky to share a moment with this beautiful creature.
This reminds me of another whale of an encounter one National Geographic diver told about.
He was telling about they were getting ready to shoot some footage of Right whales in the Indian Ocean but the day they got there there were none to be found. But not to let a day get wasted he decided to suit up and go film whatever else was swimming there.
He was shooting footage of some crabs when he suddenly had this feeling of "I'm not alone here" he turned around and this 50 foot right whale was looking over his shoulder in this way that almost said "Are you getting good footage?"

I learned about whales in 3rd grade. It was a special class only for “gifted” kids. They are amazing and kind. I would love to have a chance to see and/or interact with one. They are stunning, amazing, intelligent creatures.

What an awesome experience. I’ve had the privilege to swim close to some dolphin pods here in Hawaii. I noticed that they like the experience of swimming with humans and some even carry around toys, like a large leaf. They let it go but acutely aware of its location all the time, they would swim by it and allow their tail fin to catch it and the next time their dorsal fin . They do this right in front of us almost knowing that they are entertaining us. One time my daughter was swimming with a mono fin and a spinner dolphin came up to her and flapped his tail fin in her face almost as to say “look! You and I are the same”

SAYA ...whales evolved from land mammals that returned to the water. The succession of their ancestry is one of the best documented in all zoology. Just Google whale evolution to learn the story. When the bible was written, humans were guessing and wholly ignorant of biology.
Jeanette, no form of actual "evolution" (one kind turning into another, *not* talking about speciation / adaptation of minor changes) has ever been proven. "Evolution" *is not science.* Evolution is not fact. They need to ban this faith-based belief system from science books being pushed on students in school, if they want intelligent design banned as well. It's only fair.

There's way more than this out there but it'll be suppressed because the system still wants to push this lie of "evolution". They're too scared to bring in competing theories and scientists who believe in these competing theories, since they'll trash "evolution" and people will eventually laugh at this lie.
Someone who is open to looking for truth will be open to reading it. The reason "evolution" religion is widely accepted today is because they specifically do not let in competing theories to challenge it head on, since they (evolutionists) are scared their religion will lose and be tossed out due to clear lack of evidence when logic is concerned.
I'll cut it short a little this time: Christians are not looking to force their book on everyone in public schools using your tax dollars, so to compare Christianity to the religion of evolution (currently forced on kids in public schools) is not a good one.
If the religion of evolution were true, let's *imagine* , there would be billions of "in between" creatures all over the planet right now. No one would have to spend over 150 years looking for even one "missing link" from ape to man, there'd be many alive today, and for all other living beings, yet there are none.
If they point to some of apes' similarities to humans then why don't they point to the parrots' ability to easily mimic human verbal speech, yet apes cannot do this? Does this mean parrots are our closest ancestors now?
There are so many holes in the religion of evolution (when one actually uses honesty and logic to challenge it) that it makes Swiss cheese jealous.
Terrestrial vertebrates first walked on land for the first time some 380 million years ago, these guys were the most successful in getting back to the sea more then 200 million years after, amazing.

in Canada the Inuit are aloud to hunt whales the the one in the video
+trytobegood2014 a southern Right whale, female a baleen eater, the hunt c krill and other small aquatic invertabrates in small family groups(pods) and use bubbles to drive krill to the surface then they all dive then swim stright up within the ring of bubbles to syphon the kryill in huge mouthfuls of water. thier extremely gentle and curious. and thier one of the more commonly killed sadly due to human stupidity and greed.

When I see a whale like this, it’s about the only thing on this earth that makes me fee really happy inside.
I rarely see Right Whales aside from drawings and the occasional photo.
What little film footage I see, they seem to be the most curious of the whales.
I'd love to meet one.

Lovely peaceful animal
As humankind grows larger in numbers and expands over larger territories, the other animals are more exposed to humankind.
Through exposure, they lose their fear instincts and become more comfortable sharing their habitats with humans. Comfort, in turn, yields curiosity and a willingness to investigate, and even interact with, humans.
And the more intelligent among them (IE: whales) are even demonstrating that they're learning to recognize the difference between humans that are dangerous and humans that are harmless (they probably consider them to be two separate species since they almost never appear together) and will readily seek out the company (or at least the proximity) of the latter.

I am really loving all of the videos lately on TH-cam on humpback whales, etc. Yours and some others have been absolutely wonderful, wonderful! Thank you so much again! Consider yourself very fortunate to have been in the water with that whale and had that experience! I love the ocean and have done some skin diving & a bit of scuba diving also and would have loved to have had this experience! Oh, by the way, I love your accent! So different from South Africa! 👌🤗👋❤️🙏. Oh, I am from Utah in the USA! Oh, I lived in Pennsylvania and Florida and Alaska, where I got certified in scuba diving!
