Exactly and the other issue is as people are working for necessity and flexibility, there is another issue of the employers not hiring to keep the money and it foregoes the balance. I loved my 4 day work week as I at least had one rest day and 2 days for errands or self care and school balance while working 40-50hours a week. This schedule is not for lazy people, hiring more people would allow for balance of people rotate schedules.

Totally agree. I was thinking about this the other day as it took me an hour to get home from work. I could only imagine if I had a husband and kids. Add an hour to cook for them, an hour to clean, kids games take 3 hours, leaving you with only maybe 2 hours to love on your family, get 8 hours of sleep only to wake up and do the sh!t all over again. It’s crazy!! Not to mention how much it cost to take care of that house and family.

As a person who worked her way up to the executive ranks of a major company before the age of 35, making people work 40+ hrs a week, 5 days a week is not logical when you break down true productivity time. I used to work 50+ hrs a week (why I moved up so quick) but I burned myself out and had many seasons of thinking I couldn’t sustain. As a millennial, I agree with Gen Z- we DO need to work less. Ppl are tired and we should be able to enjoy our lives more especially with all the talk of mental health. All America promotes for its citizens IS WORK. I can see how they are reimagining the work/balance life and it should include a 4-day work week, more PTO/vacation time, or GIVE US a MENTAL HEALTH DAY as our 5th day with maybe just a few hours for that day. It could boost the economy and our health and wellness. Who will work those days off? It should be fairly easy to stagger the schedules to accommodate our workforce. I welcome it!!!!!

These companies squeeze every bit of juice out of their employees, and have the nerve to keep wages stagnant for their profits. People deserve a livable wage and more work-life balance. Had they raised a big of a stink they would have gotten the same results. Also you never really know who's working behind the scenes of determining who or what gets canceled. A lot of lgbtq allies and individuals themselves are unseen and unknown forces behind the scenes. Hence the need of caution before speaking in most cases. Us late millennials & gen z’s take work life balance so serious because most of our parents were non existent because they put their careers above us. I barely saw my father & he was in the home. We want the opposite of that & we’re making it happen. It’s not laziness, it’s priorities.

Al, not you keep advocating for a 40-hour workweek when none of the “jobs” you work are 40 hours. I’m glad Claudia was honest on this subject this time. And Quentin hit the nail on the head about flexibility. As long as people are meeting their deliverables and are paid on salary, the economy will not be impacted AL. Everything ain’t for everybody. You are the perfect example of that. So please stop attacking Gen Zs. The world is much different now and much more stressful. They’re not saying they don’t want to work. They’re saying they need flexibility. Let them babies live with healthy balance, and you work your old behind into oblivion if that’s what you want.

I’m Gen X and I agree w Gen z as well! Corporations will work you to the bone and it’s still never enough. They layoff half or more of a department and expect the remaining staff to take on the work of 2 or more additional people, with no plans of hiring for a full department. Additionally, people in my parents generation worked a true 9-5, they were able to come home and leave work at home because there was no internet, email, zoom etc. We don’t and we can’t turn off now. I have worked from 9am to 5 am, that’s 5 AM NOT PM! It has to stop, workers need to set boundaries for these employers.

Historically the 9-5,M-F work week is antiquated. It stems from the era of the Industrial Revolution where it was necessary and employees had less rights working in factories. In Europe many business have 32 hr work weeks and have no issues so why can’t we. You can miss me with something won’t get done or create problems. There is a way to make it work for a a lot of industries not all like a 911 dispatcher or hospital but to some degree that could be solved by having people work on shift. When I’m off on Friday my coworker works and when my coworker is off on Monday I work to cover them. That is possible in some industries.

As a millennial I'm really starting to burn out on the 9-5 concept. Especially if you work in a fast paced environment and you're a leader/manager of some type you become mentally and physically exhausted quick. I think most of us used to working would either like a 4 day work week or have at least a 5 hour work day. You can't even enjoy a day off (especially when it's not consecutive days) without spending it RECOVERING from the work day. And I always feel guilty when I can muster up the energy to be more productive on a day off.

I'm not buying it Al. There's no reason why ANYONE has to work a 5 day work week, except in service industries. I can be just as productive working 3 days and my tax returns will ultimately dictate what should go to my social security...now that I think of it, I work a 5 day work week like MOST people I know, but am still hearing that Social Security may not even exist for much longer...how is that the case if, in large, Americans are working the same amount of hours as always?....Sidenote....there are MANY PEOPLE waiting for Claudia to write that tell all baby! 😅

To Al's point on funding our social security, most people don't live long enough to see their social security checks! our social security funds are being used to fund wars at this point! My dad recently retired and he's getting a 3rd of what he made annually from social security as opposed to when he was working! And to Al's point on "we need to fund the economy", that's a myth. The economy/ stocks/ inflation and the market is all made up so we can continue to spend our hard earned money.
