- In this video I will be taking my first look at the song "Mein Herz Brennt" by Rammstein. This is my first exposure to this band. I'll be watching a Lyric Video, The official Music Video, and a Live performance.

Wow, it was so refreshing seeing a reactor getting introduced to Rammstein in a completely different way than others and right away getting deep into all aspects of the music.
I am a huge Rammstein fan and, to me, they are so unique in every way that I cannot even compare them to any other band or artist. They can be heavy, they can be soft, they can be silly, but mostly they are dark. They are theatrical, their lyrics are almost always very deep, poetic, metaphorical, with double (or multiple) meanings, they are real, talk about real stuff and often make you think. And above it all, they are the best live band on the planet.
I am really looking forward to more of your reactions to them, because this one was great and for that you've got a new sub here.

To me Rammstein is the best out there but they r dark. Till Lindman is the master of lyrics and showmanship. U should watch Du Hast live in France.
What i love About Rammstein: If there is a controversy and someone says " you can not a song about it" Rammstein did or will. If someone sys " you can not do this with fire. It is to dsngerous" rammstein did or will so it. (They are all full fledged pyro technivians)

One more thing I wanted to mention: in my opinion, Till in his insane pointy cap represents all the evil that kids are scared of, in particular this might suggest they are victims of home abuse. They put on those emotionless masks that seem to protect them from everything evil - but since there is no help and they have to deal with the problems on their own, they just loose their childhood and innocence. Once the cage is open (they leave their home) they seem to be adult, but completely confused and helpless in the adult world.

The official video is a fantastic piece of cinematography - so perfectly shot, paced and edited. Interesting fact: this video is really far from the initial idea, band members were so disappointed with the effect that they abandoned the complete video and completed it with another director some time later. The first video is available, but not as an "official video" 😊 After seeing it I agree that current one is waaaay better!
There is one more version worth seeing, though - piano version official music video. You could hear part of it at the end of official video, I'm sure you will like how far Till Lindemann goes into theatrics! A real piece of art ❤

This band exists official since 1994 and they have the same line up ever since.
Their names are:
Till Lindemann (vocalist, lyricist and licensed pyrotecnition, that is why they can do what they do at life performances. Then there is Paul Landers the rhythm guitarist who was already in the GDR-Band "Feeling B" with Christian "Flake" Lorenz (synthesiser) and Christoph "Doom" Schneider (drummer). Flake also wrote two books so far.

This was a great format of reaction. With Rammstein understanding of lyrics and sometimes background is necessary. The side by side official and live version works really well.
It is a rabbit hole, as others have mentioned. Dark and twisted and very enjoyable. You need to remember that they came out of the punk scene, so keep a cense of humour while watching :-)

I loved that you did three versions of this song, although you missed probably the most haunting version which is the piano version. I hope you do this one as well you will be grateful that you did. I have been into metal since the late 70's and I have seen a couple hundred concerts and I have had many favorite bands over the years but overall I have to say that Rammstein is my all-time favorite. I never tire of listening to their songs and they are the best live band on the planet, even today almost 30 years into their careers (all of the band members are original by the way). If you are looking for recommendations into which songs to do next the list is huge. My personal favorites are Mutter (live in Paris), Sonne (both the official video and the live version 2017), Deutschland (the best official music video ever made in my opinion), Ohne Dish (official video), Du Hast (their most famous song, I like the live version from Madison Square Garden the best), Ich Tu Dir Weh (live from MSG again, and one of Till's best vocals), Engel (live from MSG again), Rammlied (their opener for the MSG show), if you want some fun videos try Keine Lust (official video), Amerika (their 2nd most famous song in the USA), and Dicke Titten (from their latest album and is not only a great song but the video is very funny). Mein Teil (live at hurricane festival 2013), and so many others. I could go on and on and I'm sure others will give you some that I missed but you are in for a treat, I will promise you that!

Rammstein is one of the most famous metal bands and are living legends with the same line-up for nearly 30 years. They are a german band and are considered the best live band in the world, especially when it comes to showmenship, pyro and fire. Above all, Rammstein uses pyro quite differently than all other bands. In these days Rammstein is the greatest rock/metal show on the road, selling out stadiums in minutes.
Rammstein's music is a mixture of techno (electronic music) and metal (= industrial metal), although Rammsteins origins are in punk music. Rammstein concerts are a life time experience that you will never forget. Their videos are art but also often controversial.
Rammstein also refers to classical German literature, e.g. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's. Several of their songs are related to controversial and taboo subjects such as sadomasochism, homosexuality, intersexuality, incest, pedophilia, necrophilia, cannibalism, pyromania, religion and sexual violence. Also several of their songs are allegedly inspired by real-life events or politics. Rammstein lyrics are very deep and are also often used in school and universities around the world to learn German. There are people who learn German only because of Rammstein. Rammstein fans are considered to be the craziest and most fanatical fans in the world. In concerts from the hardcore fans all over the world it is expected that you can sing along with the German lyrics even if you don't speak German.
The song's lyrics involve a narrator describing the terrors of nightmares. The opening line of the song's intro and chorus ("Now, dear children, pay attention. I have brought something for you") is taken from the German children's TV Show "Mr Sandman", which provided children with a "nice" bedtime story. The song's narrator appears as a much more darker version of this character.
In this video, the character of the Sandman is played by Melanie Gaydos a famous model. Melanie Gaydos has suffered from a rare genetic defect since she was born: Her head is bald, her teeth and nails are malformed. She first appears to a sleeping Richard Kruspe, triggering nightmares and sending him into a state of agony. Meanwhile, Till terrorizes the complex of Beelitz-Heilstätten (military hospital of the Imperial German Army and Adolf Hitler recuperated there after being wounded in the first world war), which acts as an orphanage. He kidnaps the orphans and places them in a cage located in the main bathroom. A female warden attempts to defend the children with a shotgun, but Till overpowers her. The warden appears in the video both young (Viktorija Bojarskaja) and old (Anna von Rüden), while Till remains the same age, indicating immortality and paranormal abilities.
While guarding the orphans, Till takes a grotesque, insect-like form with an elongated head and fingers. The children are then used in various examinations and surgeries with the rest of the band playing the doctors. The female warden is also seen assisting them in her younger form. One of the surgeries sees a child's tears extracted through a syringe, which is then vaginally injected by the Sandman. The Sandman is also subject to examinations by the doctors, as Paul H. Landers is seen giving her a gynecological examination.
She later walks in a dress shielding two small children, possibly indicating that the tears are involved in a form of In vitro fertilisation. While Till is away from the main bathroom, the children (portrayed by the rest of the band as disheveled adults) escape from their cage and the orphanage. This causes Till to tear out and consume his own heart while the Heilstätten is engulfed in an inferno. The video ends with the liberated walking away from the building, while the chorus of the piano version plays in the background, signalling the video of the piano version as an afterword. (Wikipedia)
The song "my heart burns" is the film score for "Lilja 4-ever". A film about child prostitution. That's why you could interpret the text based on this film. In the film, girls from Russia lured to Sweden in the hope of a better life, in which a young and attractive man promises her heaven there: "Dear children, take care, I am the voice from the pillow" Then the sentence "Tore it out of my chest, I can imagine that she died inside every time she was raped. Since the rapes happen under cover of the night, this motif comes up frequently in the song. They steal your hot little tears, The film is a nightmare and it leaves a feeling of emptiness and powerlessness ...

You've just entered the rabbit hole of the greatest live band on the planet. (And most artful videos out there) Welcome to the Rammstein family.
I've been a fan of them for a long time. They never disappoint.
You're right, the song is about nightmares. And has an extra creep level for people living in Germany, because there's a TV Kids show (since 1959 in East Germany and since 1960 in West Germany) here, called "Sandmännchen"- sand man. It provides little kids with short sweet or funny bedtime stories. The line "dear children, pay attention I've brought you something" is the the actual line the puppet sandman always starts off with.
All Bandmembers grew up in East Germany and the band has the same lineup since 1994.
Some lyrics are written in poetry style and some song touch on taboo topics in western society.
Song like "Wiener Blut"- Viennese blood or "Mein Teil"- my part/ slang for 🍆 are based on true events.
So as you see nothing for delicate people.
And some songs are just funny.

Amazing first reaction to Rammstein. It's such a pity that Touchy wasn't recommended to watch the piano version too... 😢 I hope that he will at least watch it on his own even he he doesn't react to it because I'll be sad if he doesn't give that version an oportunity (that piano masterpiece gives such a different vibe that it seems like a totally different song).
Knowing how much Touchy likes Sabaton, he's finally going to understand from where Joakim got his pumping fist inspiration 😉I'm glad that he's going to do more songs by Rammstein because I expect him to enjoy this rabbit hole so much that he will bang his head against the wall for not knowing of thi band sooner (specially considering how much he loves live concerts he will realize why everybody says that their concerts are the best in the world). I can't wait to watch his reaction to Du Hast (in Paris) or Engel (Madison Square Garden) for the lives but Deutschland and Zeit are a must for the music videos. The only thing that could make this trip to "Rammstein land" better would be to convince his wife to share the experience but someone (me😉) should warn them that this band enjoys using very graphic and explicit imagery that sometimes doesn't sit well to U.S. viewers (knowing how openminded he is, I expect Touchy to be more surprised than shocked, but, nonetheless, I'm going to have a good laught watching him for sure 😂)

Nice reaction! You should watch live performances from their own headlining shows going forward for the full experience as to what show they put on. The only other band that is on the same level of theatrical performances is Babymetal tbh and I love both of them :).
Rammstein has plenty of fantastic songs and their mv’s are always top level. I recommend “Sonne” or “Engel” next (both songs have been performed live in Paris, so those videos are on YT).

Rammstein = rom-shtine: thing to remember, in German when the i follows the e its pronounced as an i; when there's an s followed by a t it's pronounced as sht. I find German grammar easier than English grammar! Try the Deutschland video, it's cinematography is amazing! Zeit is also a good one, very emotional! Zick Zack & Dicke Titten are really fun!

In case of Rammstein, precise translations of the lyrics is hard work (and sometimes not possible in subtitles), because they are playing many times with double meanings of words or slightly modify common German expressions and symbolic language pictures to invert or change their meanings. (That is even used in the very simple lyrics of "Du hast".)
