1117 deaths to beat it for the first time. 883 additional deaths to get the golden, for a total of exactly 2000. 1 death on flag 1, 4 on flag 2, zero on flag 3, and 6 on flag 4. As for time, my first playthrough took 3:50, golden practice+attempts took 5:40, for a total of 9:30.
Overall I didn't like this nearly as much as the grandmaster heartside, although it was way easier. The thunder temple section (second half of flag 5) and the subterranean exploration section (first half of flag 7) were both very inconsistent.
