Just came upon this video after reading about the life of Quanah Parker. He was an amazing man and survivor. That his beautiful home should have been so abused is absolutely wrong! Why was this allowed to happen? This is a national treasure and monument!! Such disrespect. Thank you for the tour.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this video. I have been interested in Native american culture since I was 12 years old. No story has captivated me all my life like Quanah Parker's. Since then I have loved this wonderful person. And it breaks my heart to see his beautiful house fall apart. I cried when I saw that. The house must be preserved. It is under monument protection. How many times have I dreamed of this house. I buy it, restore it and move in. ❤ Quanah Parkers Life and Star House ♾FOREVER♾ J.
This makes me so sad. When I was a teen living in Lawton we used to go to Eagle Park amusement park often. The star House had tours and still looked pretty good. It was taken care of. This old man’s uncle just let it go and now it’s just rotting away. How I wish the Comanche tribe owned it! They would have kept it in good repair. The Trading Post restaurant used to be a good place to eat and I could always find the prettiest earrings in the gift shop. Why let it all get so run down??
Revisited this video ; I am just heartsick that this home of Quanah Parker has been allowed to go to rack & ruin . It’s obviously a lot to maintain & it really bugs me that this monumental historical place, representing some of the history of the Nation’s indigenous people, hasn’t been prioritized. It a shameful remark of how the indigenous people have been treated in general.
Wish more can be done to preserve that house, such a unique piece of history. thank you so much wallie for taking us on this tour. P.S. that wild mouse ride was pretty cool to see thank you.
It is an absolute disgrace that this place was allowed to go to rack & ruin. I’m sorry but the United States Government should be leading the charge to save this important part of history.
There’s a book “ Empire of the Summer Moon” by SW Gwynn that tell all about the life of Quanah Parker. It was a NYT best seller. I recommend it. I’m still just shocked that this has been allowed to go to ruin. It’s heartbreaking. Charles Goodnights house is maintained for posterity, why not this. I hate to say but Native Americans have always gotten the short end & its a travesty . Total travesty . Thanks for making this video. Soon that place will be gone. Smh
It has nothing to do with native Americans. This family traded a house for this house from one of Parker’s wives. They just let this decline like the whole property and will not sell. I have done the tour ten years ago. Amazing
Thanks Wallie for the history behind this place in the beginning . I love when you and Kayla make videos exploring you both are so detailed and take your time. I truly feel like I’m exploring with you. Keep doing what you’re doing ! Wallie and Kayla you’re both awesome!!!
This is too cool to find a New Episode Wallie. Really something to see a big old house country and Quanah Parker's house. Then You see a Star house Place a Year a 1950,s Also you see above a Bench on the porch! This is old Pepsi Machine, And this is old Water Fountain, Old fire place And old table's as well. Then This a old restaurant, and kind of a Flea Market Stores. And last a lease is Oklahoma State's Old Abandoned Amusement Park? And Thanks to Awesome Wallies video.
This is very historic! I don’t see how the owners could show this house in the shape that’s it in and being moved to where it could flood like that was disaster in waiting to happen! If you your gonna own something of that historic significance ! You should be able to have the $ to maintain the house! Cause it just looks like it’s being profited on just for $ ! That home will not be safe if not already to go in!!!! That’s just the truth! Rest in peace quanah !
Fascinating video--the sunlight coming in through the roof just added an emotional punch, not sure why. Overall a great mental break in the week our dog recovers from surgery. :)
Cool video Wallie. I have a little history in that area myself. I remember going to Meers as a little kid and there's a picture of me on Mt Scott standing on a boulder. I also remember eating lunch in a Kmart cafeteria that was in the back of the store at the time which may have been the Kmart that you explored. I lived in Wichita Falls at the time
Very Sad to see the house in this condition. I used to go to Eagle Park as a kid, went horseback riding at least once a week in the summers. The House looked pretty good back then. Revisited twice in later years and met with his Uncle, Herber Wosener , the last time in 1999. He worked hard trying to save everything, but it was overwhelming, had to close the amusement park due to the high cost of liability insurance. Note of interest, a movie was shot there called Charge of the Model T's. thanks for sharing this video, the last time I saw it was 1999. Herbert was proud of his collection of buildings, I just saw the church, unbelievable and sad all of that was still in good shape. that vertical log cabin at 23:00 is one of the original buildings from Fort Sill.
Great video! Thank you so much Wallie! I’m dying to take that tour! Quanah was such a handsome, smart and charismatic man; I can see why so many women liked him!! Lol! 🤣🤣
I knew this family all my life, Donna Tidwell, my father Jess Tidwell used his heavy equipment to bring in " Eagle Park, and lay the floor for the skating rink... and all the rides, Ms Birdsong was close to my family so was Chiefs wives,,, they came to the Tidwell house and were talkers, Oyasey
Why is this not being given or sold to the Comanche nation? Honestly, at this point it should just be donated to them. They would have an interest in preserving it.
His tribe, his "people" offered a million $ for the house and they wouldn't sell it! They have No ties to the house or the Comanches except through the trade of the house. Why not sell the house to his People and let them take care of it. Just selfish.
Wonder why they couldn't move it to a place and restore it. Where is the Historical Society? I would think they'd want to restore it. My niece named her son Nacona, and girl Quanah. Other girl named Chenoa. Thanks for a cool video.
Next time my team & I go out to Oklahoma we’ll stop by the Star House. I am very distantly related to Cynthia Ann & Quanah. Not descended from, but I’m a Parker & traced the family & how they moved & settled out west.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. From what I understand from my mother in law... the info she was given this year is that the roof collapsed in on the Star House and as a result was no longer available for tours inside. I dont know how true that is but given the condition it was in when I did this video last summer, I wouldn't be surprised. It was in terrible shape and dangerous with giant holes in the roof and water on the floor boards and rotting floor boards then. I was afraid then that one of us was going to fall through the floor then. You may want to call the owner up to find out for sure though. I know they did this tour by appointment.
@@WallieB26 Okay! Thank you so much! 😊 What a shame that someone isn’t taking care of it. I’m really surprised that they would let it get like that, I mean it is a historical building!
I grew up in the area, Eagle Park was a big deal 'back in the day'. Rodeo grounds I attended many times, many rides, skating rink, bumper car arena [a personal favorite], sometimes dances I think held in the skating rink, and old west shoot-out re-enactments. Shame it fell into ruin. I was told the owner died falling from the roller-coaster by doing maintenance/repairs. After that just a part of history we cannot get back.

The Comanche had their reservation taken from them, due to the fact they kept having brutal uprising with other tribes to attack the government.
