Just came across an old picture of my grandfather today, making firewood with a saw exactly like this, 1930. am glad I found a video, of one in action, amazing.
That was absolutely fantastic. Had to look this up as I just had a gentleman give me a complete saw just like that. It still has compression and with a little TLC I'll have it running again in no time. Although I think I'll leave the blade off but it's a very interesting saw and thanks for this video.
thank you for posting this. i am a member for the rainier 2cyl club and was helping with the pull the whole weekend, and never got to actually see this run.
I am looking for any and all infomation on this saw. I was giving one. I would like to rebuild it. Is there a operating manual, or parts list out there. Hopefully...
@@WolfeBane84 Thanks for asking....Yes,I did get it working, and sold it.. I have another one if anyone would like it, they can have it. It will need alot of help.
@Wayne Crews: for sure! Imagine trying to do what this machine does with only a loooooonnnnnngggg saw with handles on either end so's two men could saw away. That'd take... a long ass time and the men'd be sore/tired. This drag saw, huge huge jump in technology. Then after this was developed, others took notice & decided to see if they could design/create a "better mousetrap". Which led to chainsaws as we know them today. In fact... the drag saw is the precursor to the modern chainsaw.

Amazing the ingenuity they had and built such a machine way back then. Of course OSHA would have a field day with that thing today... Thumbs Up
Thumbs off
Great saw, looks like it has some real nice straight cuts, but rather you be operating it than me lol.
Every time this video is viewed an OSHA inspector somewhere has a seizurre
When I can't sleep... this us how I'll think about sawing logs now
How much is the saw worth? I have one made by Ottawa...Thanks for any input

How long did those blades last.how often do they need sharpening?
Nice video old-timer!
At the start your left leg looked real close to that blade!

So a guy had one of those which led to the invention of the chain saw. Haha.
Chainsaw was invented to help with amputating limbs (of people).

What a difference the chainsaw made. This thing took forever lol.
A lot faster than what it replaced.

Okay, so it can make end table tops.......is that it?
I might be the only person in the world that has two drag saws. Yes they are for sale
I was gonna get one, but DeSantis banned them here in Florida 😂
OSHA has joined the chat...
this is fun after watching the Stihl sports Olympics!
I've seen some other kinds of movie clips with very similar contraptions
Watch where your fingers are at all times. I'm sure I would soon be missing some.
