To ellaborate further on this issue. There was video replacing the selenoid which is apart of the emissions but I removed it due to poor quality IMO. The reason why the message pops up is that there's an issue with the EVAP system. This consists of the Gas cap, Charcoal Cannister, Evap Selenoid, and Vapor Purge Valve. All problems are dependent on the code that pops up usually it will start with the P0445 code as an example then you know you have an emission code. What I demonstrated in this video is the cheapest option as the seal on my gas cap was essentially dry and had cracks in it. Most likely your problem isn't the gas cap if you have tried different ones and have the same issue. It sounds like the solenoid is bad or the canister. Get the engine code checked and see what code it is throwing.
Now i dont want to suggest this but this is what i did.... I didn’t have a OBD scanner but if you disconnect one of the terminals on your battery and flick the high beams on it will drain the power from the Computer clearing the code out basically thats what i did and mine went away never had the light comeback and i could remote start it again. Hope this helps you!
Arturo Baez Nope, just flip the high beams on when you disconnect the battery so any power drains out of the car and reconnect within 3-5 minutes and it should disappear thats what i did and it worked for me!
The computer stores information from the certain amounts of miles. The guy making this video doesn't seem go know a whole lot about fixing this issue. P0455 pd is the error code that usually comes with it and it means you have a gross fuel leak(gross meaning a lot). First thing you do is crawl under the gas tank and fuel lines and see if you smell or see a leak. Next is to check to purge solenoid to see if it holds vacuum . If it's not holding vacuum. Then that means the solenoid is stuck open and burning extra fuel. Lastly is the charcoal filter for the evap lines next to the fuel cell
I have a question not about the gas cap but the gas flap that has fell down inside of the tube is will it stop gas from pumping and then have to stop pumping the gas and restart
I replaced my gas cap with a generic one from auto zone and the message did not come up for a while but it is now appearing again every single day. will I need to take it to a mechanic or is it something I can do myself?
I feel you, I'm in the exact same situation right now. Whenever someone rides with me and it dings"tighten fuel cap" I just say "don't worry, that's normal" 😵💫

I know crazy right? well, when I got off of work I approached my car and noticed that my fuel cap was opened and missing ENTIRELY!!! @gabrielruiz-yt2fh that pissess me off I just had my 09 silverado in for a new fuel pump lock ring and fuel lines which cost me a pretty dam penny.. and now my tighten fuel cap light is on which it was not b4 I took it in.... They told me b4 I picked it up that when I put fuel in it go slow which I have noticed b4 what you just said I might need extra next $300, told them I'll hold on that for now. I've tighten the fuel cap since I've gotten it back a few times already and the light comes on still. I'll check the fuel cap next to see if that's what it is, my luck probably not, just my luck lately.
Buddy just because this worked for you doesnt mean it will fix our problems there are many reasons that warning is popping up. A pinhole in has filler tube will cause same problem buying new cap wont help.

Very Very unlikley. Please use GM PART DIRECT and enter your VIN number for accurate part number.

Yes it can mine has long since disappeared
It is aligned to the Evaporative emissions control system, so it'll trigger the check engine light.
Replaced cap...cleared for a short while, back on now.
Mine in a very rare occasion has reappeared. If i recall twice but after that i never had another pop up message!

Tah dah.. Yes it actually works the seal is what goes bad just like every piece of plastic on the car just gotta be replaced with the updated stuff!
My seal isn't dried out or cracked but the tighten gas cap has come up 4 times in the last few weeks

Ya I bought a new gas cap too, still eventually comes loose while driving.
Gas cap will not fix. Most likely there is a small leak.
