  • Tallinn is a new library from Orchestral Tools that captures the frozen beauty of Estonia and the restrained delicacy of the music of Nordic Noir and Arvo Part. Guy Michelmore takes the new sample library out on location to a beautiful wild place that reflects the spirit of the samples. So if you are interested in a very contemporary orchestral string sound, beautiful chamber choir samples and a lovely landscape, this is for you.

How To Write Music explores the fundamental skills that underpin every great piece of music whether it’s a song or a film score, string quartet or video game sounds track.

Oh yeah, Arvo Pärt is my favourite composer. We sung his Magnificat in university choir and it was terrific moment, when the 40 guys and those 60+ girls opposite us raised our voices all together for a forte center piece of that. We looked in each other's eyes every time in awe. I still feel the same when I listen to that parton YT, 7 years later.
Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror behind a mirror) is another masterpiece, awesome by its striking simplicity.
Very nice work Guy, I'm currently backpacking in South America and sitting down in a bar at the beach with my computer and composing something inspired by what I see is something I want to do. Currently in Paraguay, most striking thing I've seen here was Itaipu dam, but that one has alredy been taken. By some guy called Phillip Glass.
And I can only recommend Baltic countries. Even tho the landscape defines the ford 'flat'. Have a nice time and keep up.the great work. Thanks!

Odd recommendation, but might I recommend an interesting chord progression you might at some point want to use? If you are familiar with schuberts Mass in Eb, specifically the sanctus, it is the initial progression in that. It is I-vib-iii, or in terms within a key (Eb) Eb Major - Cb or B natural (B natural is what is written in the score) minor, G minor.

Hi Guy, love your work and infectious enthusiasm! I was wondering however: you seem to compose by the seat of your pants; do you spend time checking for parallels etc., do you avoid these types of issues intuitively at this point, or do you just wing it and hope it comes out sounding good? Do you spend your time addressing these types of issues that may spring up, or do you rely on your partners to attend to these? I mostly compose for small ensemble, but am interested in expanding my palette with BBCSO. Would you recommend this for people who write score, and then work in a DAW to humanize it?
