Hi, Just found your channel and subscribed. I have that same Tecsun Radio. Very nice quality. I also have the Tecsun H-501x. I collect and refurbish 60s and 70s Hacker portables. And a few Valve receivers too. I live on the East Coast of Lincolnshire. 648kHz comes in here quite strong during the day, but 1368kHz is virtually non existent until after dark. Dead opposite to your situation. I know Dave Porter quite well (Retired BBC Engineering Chief), he advises Radio Caroline on how to get the best for the limited power now 4 KW, with an application for 16kw. Ofcom need to approve the power increase. The phenomenon of night time instability is mainly due to the combination of Groundwave meets Skywave. Slightly out of phase and variable, as the source is the same, you can get superposition (huge boost) or out of phase (Super low). I also have one of those passive loops. the key to those is their very good directivity, set up with a Compass in the plain of the loop, it can null out surrounding noise as well as boosting signals. All the best from Lincolnshire. 73 David G1ZQC.
Hey, my friend... see at 6:29 minutes.. the loop worked, in the arrangement I suggested. At that point ,move it closer and further.. in and out from the set. Good luck and cheers.
Nice Collection of 80s vintage radios & stereos there, Its good how that passive antenna brings the signal strength up. Here in Portsmouth, I can just about hear Caroline on 648, usually a bit better at night, it does have a good range for their 4 kilowatt transmitter, although in this area it is also carried on the local small scale DAB multiplex.
I'm in Lancaster too! ... In a Jigsaw Homes Social Housing slum, next to the derelict Telephone House on Fenton Street. Thankfully, I've inherited the family home in a rather more select area, not infested with rats, drunkards and thieves, and so I'll moving from this god-forsaken hovel in due course!
Nice signal. I listen on 648 most evenings in the East Midlands but I have to use the loop or an external antenna down the garden away from noise sources in the house. Manx is a stronger signal on 1368 kHz. Radio 208 on 1440 is a good station but I struggle to get them most of the time. Good dx 👍🏼
Good station isn’t it. I listen to the Dutch above 1600 as well but I’m not keen on the accordion music, sometimes they have good varied playlists though. As for in and around 49m band SW it’s been noisey here for quite a while, I was even struggling with Radio Delta recently and they usually boom in here. Radio Europe on 6130 seem to have disappeared completely 🤷♂️
@@FrancoDX yes sw has not been the best this year I get weekend music radio on 6290 really well. Always keep I eye out for radio Monique between 6200 and 6300 on a Sunday. It’s usually a good laugh
@ I agree, I’m an amateur operator as well and the higher bands have been good but 20m and down have been hit and miss for months. We supposed to be in the solar peak according to the NOAH and NASA space weather but I think SW was more stable last year. I’ve enjoyed more MW listening anyway 👍🏼
Sw no way as good as last year. If you look at the Williamson park video from last year the radio Monique signal late afternoon is great. This year things from the Dutch u have to wait until dusk. Radio Europe last year was nearly receivable all day last year
Hi Tilly, is the Tecsun you show at the end (which incidentally is the exact model I have recently been considering buying as it has generally very good reviews) connected to an external antenna as I notice the whip isn't being used for the strong shortwave stations?
@@davidwalsh5467 the whip is ok for walking outside high with. The external areal which it comes with helps reception but it also gets rid of interference from inside when you set it up out of your window. I’ve had better sets on medium wave but as an all rounder it’s good. The audio is very good. I can use it every day as an all round radio.
With the greatest respect,I have said it before. There's a ferrite rod in there. You have to point it like a target at the middle of the loop. The loop will couple. This is so frustrating. Don't you get it? That's how a loop works. I have the same one. Jeez. I can't watch anymore.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care from India 🇮🇳.
Radio Listening ❤
You too love your you tube
Listening to Caroline here in Germany at the moment on my xhdata...keep up the good work...very interesting.

Yes there good. It gives most of my sets a little boost. Really happy with it.
Radio addiction! Nice to meet you sir!

Cheers Tilly. Enjoyed the video. I especially look forward to the Sunday radio one's, but I watch your short videos.
Sw was putty bad this weekend so did this instead
@tillyupnorth Yeah good 👍
@@DaveMuirhead I like doing the Lancaster shorts in between work. There’s so good live ones of light up Lancaster. The one on the canal was ace
@@tillyupnorth Was that the one where the mist was being sprayed and all those coloured patterns were projected? It was 👍
Them loops work good I’ve seen them never gave that one a thought 💭

Can get 648 at night but it’s hot and miss
Caroline is the last British music station I can get on MW, Manx on 1368 is receivable after dark here in the West Midlands.
Good to know it's still going. Perhaps try an outdoor antenna coming into the home on coax or ribbon.
Got an outdoor for shortwave. The loop is done for mw and I can use it wherever I like.
Can hear Coroline on 648 all the way in Northern Finland.

I wish you all the best. Went past the old telephone house a few days ago back. Some grand old looking buildings up there

When wafting it around, it is better to hold it by its base, not the actual loop, as the (conductive!) hand will be de-tune it
Thanks. Yeh I’m trying to keep things in short and moving it about on the video so my mistake
Likewise :) 648 strong here in Shropshire after dark ! (Hacker Helmsman)
Theres a new Dutch station on 7275. Think its called Rock Power or something similar. Good signals into Birmingham.
Is that in the evenings
@tillyupnorth I've heard it during the day, and also evenings, but I don't think it's 24/7
I got to start checking them lw band
Sweet Caroline!

Tilly. How do I leave a coffee for you or a tip, please?

Nice demonstration of the active aerial have you tried it whilst your out and about?
Yeh is on my Ravenglass one from a few years back at Christmas

Works for me in the kitchen. I just move the loop until is the best.

@tillyupnorth A good antenna system is always a good idea.
