Where do these rules come from? I’ve been using Vergez Blanchard pricking wheels, irons and awls for many years. The pricking tools have always made slots and the awls were always diamond shaped. Even after sharpening they retained their diamond shape. The diamond awl is what gives the saddle stitch it’s distinctive shape. People are maybe overthinking all this.
How much everclear was your mom drinking when she had you? You think the diamond shape holes is what gives saddle stitching it's distinctive shape? Really? Not the slanted holes, but the diamond shapes? My god, and they allow people like you to vote... Just because you have been using the pricks and the awls incorrectly all your life, doesn't make it the correct way. Do you think the earth is flat too because you have never seen the curvature of the earth?
Awesome video! Helps me a lot as I want a flat blade awl but what's available in my country is only diamond blade. Will try to reshape it. Also, if I want to make the width smaller (from 3mm to 2.5mm) how would you suggest doing it? Thank you!
Lately I've felt like Blanchard stuff is kinda junky. They've got to step up their game to keep up with some of the tools coming out of China and also South Korea in particular, ...and they cost a fortune comparatively. I think they've been the "only game in town" for so long that they have been able to rest on their laurels...especially when it comes to pricking irons.

Do you use the large awl to put holes in space and time instead of leather haha!

Very true David. I hope Blanchard brings the best quality again. they do still keep their look. I want them to bring the quality back.
Well Blanchard still has the 10 to 14 spi range locked down, nobody else that I am aware of even makes an iron that goes higher then 10.
