I don't know what pettiness is going on in the comments below but this is one of the greatest singers of the last century and we need to just listen to this master artist at her craft; few have ever matched her soul-stirring vocals and matchless interpretations of the standards!
Thank You.. Thank You.... Thank You Marco for uploading Sarah Vaughn. She was a glorious tribute to Female Jazz Vocalists, Actually the No. 1 Jazz Vocalist as far as skill goes. True Jazz Lovers know this and you must be one of us! Keep the great music coming for us jazz connoisseurs! Any more Sarah Vaughn? Bring It!
I am just enamored at her virtuosity. Never another. I am so fortunate to have lived in this era she bridged the gap in so many levels with her music and notice how she acknowledges her musicians artists don't do that anymore. Sassys tempo changing clever phrasing incredible timing and vocal utilization instrumental are second to none. One of the Great Scat masters
Marvelous! Well done video, the feeling of her singing in an intimate club atmosphere is right there on the screen. Miss her so very much. I don't get the impression from many of the modern day girl singers that they can romance a tune as she can. She's all around it in every aspect. Miss Andy Simpkins and Uncle Harold, too.
Thank you so much sir Marco. I have to admit that she is my all-time favorite female jazz singer. The greatest. I was lucky enough to see her in Hollywood on her birthday many years ago. She sang till 4 in the morning. And it sounds rather poetic, but it changed my life. Minimally my music appreciation life. Thanks again.
Mike Wofford on piano is awesome with "Happy" Harold Jones on drums and great bassist Andy Simpkins. Sass always the best singer in this world. Miss Sarah Vaughan!
She got better and better with time. I learned to adore her more and more as I grew. She is so darling and fun and elegant but down to earth. Love that dress! And of course her unmatched voice and her very own unique sound. She makes the day better. She heals. Thank you for posting this. ..PS and let us not forget that amazing band! The bass is just out of sight!
Her second song, Time after Time, she said was a request and she had not done in years... but her reading gave me goose bumps.. so stunning.. so musical, jazzy and with feeling.. she was one in a MILLION! I bet she didnt have a chance to even rehearse it... AN ARTIST in action!!
The era of black professionals of music such as Ella, Sarah, Diana Washington is nothing short of astounding. Despite all obstacles their music is still relevant and in my opionion has not been matched. Elegance, style and showmanship that has only been imitated.Although, I think Rachel Ferell, Cassandra Wilson, Nicole Henry, and Diana Ross have made an impact and time demands changes, my preference is old school late 50,60,70 jazz vocals.
Don't you worry Music lovers for there will ALWAYS be public for this glorious legend...for this unique class...for this Voice, patrimony of Mankind!!!!

Can anyone identify her musicians? An old school friend of mine, George Gaffney (piano), was with her for quite a while up until she passed. I couldn't get a good look at her pianist but it didn't look like Geoge. I've seen him with her on other videos. Can anyone help?
I cant believe I will never get to see something as glorious as this live. Goodness. I am stuck with Beyonce. Wrong era to have extra disposable income.
George Neidorf she had such a powerful voice. Even with the more quieter moments the power was always there. And that is a wonderful way to put it, she did not have to swallow the microphone to be heard. Very good sir.
She is America's Maria Callas. OPERATIC. Diane Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater are fine singers- but not even close to Sassy... then again, who ever was? Ella, I guess...
dafaust OMG- THANKS! I always thought she'd been born in Greece- Very much appreciated for the heads up- here's the wiki link! :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Callas
That arm resting on the piano is feeling harmonic notes no one can hear, The Master :)
No matter which part of her career you tune into she's untouchable.

Sara Vaughan rarely showed the faces of the pianists
and she doesn't have to swallow the mic to be heard.
Yes. Thank you very much !
George Neidorf she had such a powerful voice. Even with the more quieter moments the power was always there. And that is a wonderful way to put it, she did not have to swallow the microphone to be heard. Very good sir.
Does anyone know what her octave range was?
It doesn't matter when you sound that good from top to bottom.
I agree but I was just curious.
Sam Pottorff I read that it was close to 3. Maybe abit more.
Kien Nguyen Thanks
D sharp in her contralto to high C in her soprano. About 3 1/2 octaves. Amazing!
She is America's Maria Callas. OPERATIC. Diane Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater are fine singers- but not even close to Sassy... then again, who ever was? Ella, I guess...
***** Maria Callas IS American, born in NYC. But I get what you mean.
dafaust OMG- THANKS! I always thought she'd been born in Greece- Very much appreciated for the heads up- here's the wiki link! :)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Callas
Callas,? I couldn't agree MORE....!
Maria Callas was an American, what are you talking about? She was born in Manhattan. She affected that accent.
What kind of introduction was that?
She would've turned 100 this year
Don't forget Carmen McRae and Lady Day.
Fred, why do you call me a racist? Seems a bist hasty Mr.
dreadful singing
