Looking, and sounding marvellous. My mind goes back to the ITN News broadcast from so many years ago that reported the Deltic Farewell railtour that pulled in to Kings Cross.
I very much doubt in 40 years time that crowds like this will be thronging the platform to get a look of an old Azuma - we've really lost 'soul' in modern transport!
Thank you for watching. I agree! I was looking at a Class 802 at Bristol yesterday and the paint around the doors and windows was badly flaking. They're not much fun to travel on, they'll never have the same place in history the Delicts have.
My main love will always be external combustion engines but if you must have internal combustion this is very much as good as it gets! Luckily I visited Kings X many times when they were in service and travelled North behind them too. Absolutely superb sound!
Lovely filming of a wonderful working into King's Cross. I did see it take over from the 40 at York. What a shame about Sir Nigel and I had already booked a hotel in York hoping to see the changeover!
Love her current livery 😍 haven't seen her since June 2008 at Penzance in Cornwall. 2 videos on my channel. She was 55022 then. Been watching her at York station on UK Railfan.
36 six cylinders and 72 opposed pistons. Two stroke brilliance. There seems to be a kind of renaissance of two stroke rail engines. It's impossible to have a two stroke diesel engine that doesn't use forced induction. I remember the Foster Yeoman Class 59 freight locos from 1986.
excellent shots of D9000 👍there use to be a D9000 doing trips from Birmingham to ramsgate in the 90s i was wondering if it the same one though it didn't have the wings on the front
It was a pity the Deltics were in front line service for only about 20 years. I understand they were expensive to maintain compared with other diesels and the HST's had taken their principal role from them. I remember them on the Kings Cross - York semi-fasts towards the end of the ECML service lives. In 1981 I took a Deltic-hauled Up train from York and it was old Mark 1 steam heated stock, which was pretty rare by then on Inter-City services.
They were best when matched to Mk2 air conditioned East Coast Mainline stock - a beautiful ride in comfortable seats.......with the might of the Napiers droning away up front!
@@WindyJAMiller I agree! All the idiot/so called mayor is interested in is making money. Thank God he didn't get to kill of the travelcard as he hoped to.

I love the sound of a good Deltic. 55's used to whine past my house as a little boy in Knebworth.
Thank you for watching! They do have a great sound!
Great video 👏👍🇬🇧
Thank you! :)
The sound of that machine. A beast
A fantastic sound! Thank you for watching!
Great to see it back at King’s Cross, first saw it there when I was about 12, fifty odd years ago
Thank you for watching! It great to see a Deltic at the Cross again!
A very up close look at the D9000, under a beautiful train shed with great lighting!! 🤩(new subscriber, Virginia)
Thank you very much! :)

@@HenrysAdventures OK Henry, don't worry if you haven't got the time to watch it.
Lovely footage.

Thank you very much! :) Yes its quite possible it was this loco. The wings are easy to put on and off.
Yes, it was the same one. It was hired by Virgin for a couple of years between about 1998 and 2000
Amazing videos!
Thank you very much!

Thank you for watching! I agree, I went long before their time but great to see them still appearing at the Cross from time to time.

Quite a haunting noise as it emerges from the gasworks tunnel
Thank you for watching! Yes, I could hear her for a while before she appeared.
New camera or just amazing lighting. Or both? Stunning
Same camera I've had since July so it must be the lighting. Thanks for watching!
