But I really enjoy your trip report vids because they offer so much variety and trips to places I never heard of on aircraft I've never seen, let alone sat in. Did I also mention that the videos are very well done? Please continue to feed my addiction to your channel.
Re seats: not just cargo, they need to be foldable like this to accomodate stretchers for medevacs which is one of thir big roles in the north. It is somewhat ironic that Bombardier never leverages the Twin Otter and quickly sold off the maintenance to Viking Air as a discontinued product, and once Viking got the rights to produce, it didn't take long for demand to justify creating the -400.. So it is great to see the Twin Otter still being produced today.
@@mothmagic1 The bean counters at Bombardier are no longer. All that is left is the business jet division which Bombardier couldn't find a buyer for during its liquidation. They had set their sights in mass production and not on low volume production such as the Twin Otter and the CL415 water bombers so ditched them. The problem with aiming too high as they did was that when you fall, it is deadly which is what happened.

I traveled for 25 years on business before I retired. Around 20 years I was on a Twin Otter going into Scranton. We ran into the worst storm I've ever seen. The flight attendant got air sick and I thought the wings would break off...they were flapping like a bird. A sweet old Catholic lady next to me had her Rosary beads out and was praying out loud to the Virgin Mary...I guess they are called Hail Mary's. But that Twin Otter got and a fantastic pilot got us safely to Scranton. It's a flight I'll never forget.
This Twin Otter video brings back great memories of my early days in my aviation career. I flew a Twin Otter out of Timmins, Ontario, with Austin Airways (just as Air Creebec was starting up its operations in Northern Quebec). In fact, we would quite often "share" pilots. Out of Timmins, we would fly to Moosonee where we had a crew base, then fly up and down the east and west shores of James and Hudson Bays, as far as Fort Severn, Ontario and Povungnituk, Quebec. The Twin Otter was (and still is) one of my favourite aircraft that I was fortunate enough to experience in my career of 43 years. It is nice to see Air Creebec has great avionics in their aircraft, including glass, GPS, moving map. Those would have been nice in the 1980's (but of course, GPS wasn't invented yet).
I was a dock boy at White River Air Service, , in the 60's , Stan Delucce 1st outfit , spent my weekends hundreds of miles from home, with the pilots doing swamper jobs at camps all over the north. Great times, great memories !
The Otter and Twin Otter are a wonderful legacy of Canadian Aviation engineering. As a former pilot, I had to stop due to anxiety attacks after a crash, I was aspiring to spend my career flying the Twin Otter as a bush plane. Thanks, Alex for the up close and personal flight of a true work horse.
Sorry to hear about the effects of that crash. You are having to pay the price for the inevitabilities of a dangerous occupation. I hope you found a good new direction.

I started an eco-tourism company in Banff and traveled millions of miles all over Canada and the US providing sightseeing tours. I met thousands of wonderful people with whom I had an opportunity, I hope, to make a small difference in their lives. Many certainly made a huge difference in mine, that's for sure. I was blessed with attending one of our few colleges in Canada to learn the craft of flying, so the bucket list is checked as my to-do list for flying. Up until a few years ago, I kept beating myself up with "Did I do the right thing?" as to the plane crash I experienced. A few years ago I watched a TH-cam video of a 30-year US Naval Aviator crash and burn. Sadly his mistake proved me right, I did the proper thing to save my own ass!
The Twin Otter will always hold a special place in my heart. Growing up, I would see them take off from Downsview for shake downs and delivery flights. It was my very first model kit. I always wanted to fly one, but cardiological ineptitude put an abrupt halt to my continuing flying education.
We often see a Twin Otter flying between Exeter and the Isles of Scilly, west of Cornwall UK. At 36 years young, they are still doing great work. Thank you for reporting on the far northern version of these feeder routes. Like you, we could watch the whole flight through the cockpit. HNY to all Twotters everywhere ❤
Brings back memories - used to fly the bright yellow Twin Otters for the Ontario Government landing on lakes in the far north such as around Moosonee, Fort Albany and Attawapiskat. Remember all too well when the weather would suddenly go sour. Very versatile and very Canadian planes! Also spent alot of time in their Turbo Beavers and older piston Otters, aka the `Big Yellow Birds'!
I'm addicted to watching these far-north snowy videos especially from the US Midwest in July with the 90 degrees F and the stale stagnant air here. Also I've become more interested in aviation since my son has a career in that field scheduling crew for a major airline and has in the past been a supervisor at a major international airport (where Air Canada has a hub!) for an aviation service.
The view out of the port window is so neat, especially the landing and seeing the dirt runway and how the Twin Otter just soaks it in no problem. What a versatile airplane, I can see why Air Inuit has them in their fleet and keeps them running for so long. I'd love to see more Twin Otter flights in the future, water landing would be amazing!

Never flew in an Otter, but did have the honor of parachuting out of Norsemans. In the mid 1970s in Orange Massachusetts. Classic durable, rugged. Like the DC 3, timeless.
I've filmed a full flight on a Twin Otter from Victoria to Vancouver last year. Definitely was one of my favorite experiences. Speaking of your flight, it definitely feels a lot like a mission to Antarctica, where some of their research bases also use Twin Otters, including those from Kenn Borek Air. I also really love the bubble windows that gives you a true 180 degree view out, very much like Harbour Air's DHC-3 Otter.

Yup Twin Otters can be found not only Canada but in The UK & Beyond too even The Caribbean Destinations like St.Maarten to St.Vincent and The Grenadines and Barbados too.
Now you have to fly harbour air! Being that my uncle is a pilot for them he's taken me up lots and trust me it'll be worth it! I would recommend the dhc3 for the upfront seat!
Been waiting for this one... always had an affinity for the Twotter, even though I've yet to fly one. My dad was flying one for 440 Squadron the night I was born... maybe that's why I find it so special!
Dad flew 737-200's with Transair in the 70's equipped with gravel deflection devices into Fort Chimo. At that time, the only runway was gravel. I have flown on the Otter with Air Pacific in Fiji.
Love the Twin Otter!! What an elegant workhorse. Wish they were still active in the US. Good luck getting into the up-front seats! (I fly a 65 hp hand-prop ‘46 Aeronca Champ. About as basic as it gets!)
Once again, your video is a lot of fun to watch. Sounds like this trip was quite special. It is wonderful to see the Twin Otter in action. I only flew on a Twin Otter once way back in 1988 on Air BC from Vancouver to Victoria. They didn't have those foldable seats but I remember that sitting down I barely had 5 inches of clearance above my head. You had to be hunched over to get into the plane and find your seat. I imagine you had a hard time getting in. Keep these great videos coming. Excellent job as always.
Our local airline Loganair operate three 'Twotters', two being the newer 400 series and their other one being a series 310, built in 1980, so now 43 years old. It's the perfect aircraft for the job. Sadly none of the Loganair ones have the 'bubble' window. They operate the only scheduled commercial flight I know of to the beach airfield on Barra with its three sand runways.
Delighted Alex that you are working on your Commercial Licence. I have one son who is an FO for our Major Airline and my other son passed his PPL just yesterday. He’s going on to Commercial training too😊

I flew on a Twin Otter along the Nunatsiavut, Labrador coast. Really cool experience. Wasn't long before I picked up some flight simulator gear and did the flight in game. Unfortunately, Twin Otters aren't available (yet?).
I enjoyed your video on the Twin Otter in the Arctic. I got to fly on in slightly warmer climate with Fiji Air Link between Nadi and Savusavu a few years ago. What a very cool airplane!
I use to fly in Twin Otters on NorOntair back in the late seventies. Lots of fun. Cabin noise can be very loud at times however...(Northern Ontario: Kirkland Lake, North Bay, Sudbury)
Great little plane, and Canadian made ! I remember the short-lived Montreal-Ottawa service with Air Transit's red Twin Otters. It was quite a sight seeing them land in downtown Montreal where the Mel's movie studio is now. Anyone remeber that ? Or actually fly on it ? Wait, there used to be an airport next to downtown Montreal? I'm 29 and I've never heard of this! Did it take up that whole piece of land that has the studio, Habitat 67 and the Concorde Bridge?
@@cdnshark19 The airport (Stolport actually) was parallel to the Bonaventure Autoroute where Mel's is now and further west. I can't remember the exact year but mid-70's. It was an experimental service that lasted 1 year and then they tore it up. Those Twin Otters used to come straight down to land there!!
That Victoria STOL airport was built over a very old dump. As the ground was settling, the airstrip was getting more and more bumpy... (plus the methane emanating...)
Harbour Air also has a great fleet of Beavers, some radial-engined still. When I visit Vancouver I sit and watch them in and out of the harbour - great show! Did you know that they have made and flown an experimental electric plane?
I have a flight logged in my log book WWD Wildwood NJ to AIY Bader Field Atlantic City with night landing between Casinos back in 1988 in the Twin Otter (all analog gauges) also have some Dash 7 time but not logged
I flew a dash 8 out of Leaf Rapids Manitoba way back when in a snow storm, ice breaking off the nose and hitting the tail was a little unsettling but I was young and made of rubber back then.
As I see, you spend a lot of time in Quebec. If for some reason you stop (even for connection) at Quebec City YQB let me know! I work at the airport, it can be nice to talk a little bit!
One thing I recently found out, was that the reason these airlines still run the 737-200 is the smaller engines are far less likely to suck up debris from the gravel runways.
Actually I plan to do almost same thing (tickets in my pocket) to fly on L-410 to the remote northern islands in the north and back on the same plane with 20 minutes stop over. :)) our love of airplanes and avgeeks behaviour conquers logic and other things :))). Will be on my channel too for sure. :)
Sitting abeam the props is the noisiest place to sit. Back behind the engine or well ahead of the props (if possible) is much nicer. But I get the attraction of the bubble window.
I dont remember where I took off from, but back in 2007 I got to fly a Twin Otter on floats into Vancouver Harbor- I wish I could fly on another one again. I would have thought by now someone like Air Inuit would have ordered the Cessna SkyCourier to replace their Twin Otters as the best modern replacement as a high wing and with PT6’s.
@@erictremblay4940 Just looking at it, it looks like there is not a STOL model yet. I just thought it was the best replacement also having 19 seats and PT6’s as a high wing aircraft.

Twin Otters are the Best. Not a pilot, just like looking at them and watching them fly. They seem to be the perfect airplane design.
The twin otter is very popular for travel from Vancouver island to the mainland being mainly used as float planes.

Wait, there used to be an airport next to downtown Montreal? I'm 29 and I've never heard of this! Did it take up that whole piece of land that has the studio, Habitat 67 and the Concorde Bridge?
@@cdnshark19 The airport (Stolport actually) was parallel to the Bonaventure Autoroute where Mel's is now and further west. I can't remember the exact year but mid-70's. It was an experimental service that lasted 1 year and then they tore it up. Those Twin Otters used to come straight down to land there!!

That Victoria STOL airport was built over a very old dump. As the ground was settling, the airstrip was getting more and more bumpy... (plus the methane emanating...)

Can you fly on harbour air? They fly seaplanes out of Vancouver harbour and they fly twin otters it would be cool to see a tripreport on that
Harbour Air also has a great fleet of Beavers, some radial-engined still. When I visit Vancouver I sit and watch them in and out of the harbour - great show! Did you know that they have made and flown an experimental electric plane?

I have a flight logged in my log book WWD Wildwood NJ to AIY Bader Field Atlantic City with night landing between Casinos back in 1988 in the Twin Otter (all analog gauges) also have some Dash 7 time but not logged
I flew a dash 8 out of Leaf Rapids Manitoba way back when in a snow storm, ice breaking off the nose and hitting the tail was a little unsettling but I was young and made of rubber back then.

One thing I recently found out, was that the reason these airlines still run the 737-200 is the smaller engines are far less likely to suck up debris from the gravel runways.

Actually I plan to do almost same thing (tickets in my pocket) to fly on L-410 to the remote northern islands in the north and back on the same plane with 20 minutes stop over. :)) our love of airplanes and avgeeks behaviour conquers logic and other things :))). Will be on my channel too for sure. :)

Sitting abeam the props is the noisiest place to sit. Back behind the engine or well ahead of the props (if possible) is much nicer. But I get the attraction of the bubble window.
the bubble windows are not there as attractions for regular passengers - their primary use is search and rescue missions

I dont remember where I took off from, but back in 2007 I got to fly a Twin Otter on floats into Vancouver Harbor- I wish I could fly on another one again. I would have thought by now someone like Air Inuit would have ordered the Cessna SkyCourier to replace their Twin Otters as the best modern replacement as a high wing and with PT6’s.
How are the STOL performance of the Skycourier?
@@erictremblay4940 Just looking at it, it looks like there is not a STOL model yet. I just thought it was the best replacement also having 19 seats and PT6’s as a high wing aircraft.
Try flying the DHC-6 out of CYWH for something different.
