Wally is most likely dead. I want to pass along some important background info pertaining to this situation. If someone calls in a nuisance alligator, a trapper is sent out to deal with that gator. The state of Georgia doesn’t allow relocation of nuisance alligators over 4 feet in length (idk how long Wally was but if he was over that then he definitely wasn’t relocated). Majority of trappers shoot the gator to sell the meat and hide. Some will also lie about the destiny of that gator (Lying that it will go to a good farm, but is actually shot). Hence why the trapper won’t say anything about the whereabouts of Wally. Even if he was small enough to relocate and the trapper was nice enough to actually do that, alligators have been known to cannibalize and attack other alligators in territorial disputes. Dropping Wally suddenly into a swamp with 20 other gators could cause him to get attacked by the others as he would be seen as an intruder. They can also die from too much stress. That psychopath who stole Wally needs to be found and charged for their crimes!

The trapper probably isn’t giving up the location of the gator because the gator isn’t alive anymore. He definitely either humanely or inhumanely euthanized it and doesn’t wanna be caught for THEIR mistake. The amount of times the story changed because of them is enough evidence as is. Anytime a story changes abruptly the person being questioned is normally in the wrong/in on it.
That makes sense but it doesn’t. If he killed Wally then why not just say “oh yeah I dropped him off around here.” It’s not like Joe would find him on that wild goose chase. After a while he’d probably just assume the worst. It would also throw the scent off of the trapper himself.

We have a lot gators around where I live and that’s what’s supposed to happen. However there are a few who will just shootem and dump the carcass somewhere while clocking the “relocation” hours. You can go to jail up to a year per alligator, with a minimum of $500 fine per gator.
alligators can survive about a year without food. as long as he stays hydrated in the swamp or doesnt get killed by another alligator he should survive until they find him.

What’s upsetting is he’s domesticated (or as much as an alligator can be) and probably doesn’t have much chance on his own. Whoever kidnapped him probably killed him.
People need to understand that wild animals raised as pets can never go back to the wild. The predators lose the ability and knowledge of how to successfully hunt and the prey don't know how to survive longer then 24 hours. And he was also supposed to be at home, not roaming about, and in his enclosure. To add a bit of context as to why that trapper might refuse to help: within the community of people who take care of alligators and other wild animals, it is well known you can train an animal like this to be calm and respond positively to certain things, but they also emphasize the fact that it is still a wild animal that will never be domesticated. These people do not respect Wally's owner because they believe his behavior to be dangerous and inappropriate, and as professionals i am a bit inclined to believe that if Wally was any bigger he'd be a threat regardless of how sweet he might seem on a daily basis. That being said, you cannot steal someone's pet, no matter if it's a cat, a spider, a tiger or a god damned alligator, there's a big difference between criticizing someone's sense of what's safe and removing the threat yourself when no one asked you to.
Wally was not a threat. He was a docile well cared for alligator. It’s not that deep. The opinions of people who care for wild animals are irrelevant to this situation. Such professionals would understand you don’t release a docile animal into the wild. Especially when the animal was well cared for in captivity. im no lawyer but afaik, kidnapping implies that the victim is a individual that can make conscious decisions. i dont think any court would be willing to do that for an alligator. and even if they do, that's going to cause another set of problems. imagine the other pet owners demanding the same protections

That's what I thought too. Alligators make for really good food and Wally was small enough that this guy could easily just take him home to eat, rather than release him. They don't have to tag the animals or do anything that allows for a follow up. They just need to release them, or at least say they did, and that's that

Everyone needs to learn to differentiate the difference between an animal that is known for killing all things once it grows to size, to an animal who is domestic and can be seen as a non threat to society.
There's another reason why he might not have - maybe wally got attacked right after he released him and the trapper saw it happen, and just isn't disclosing that it happened out of fear of being held responsible for it. If that didn't happen, he probably would've died of starvation anyway so... unfortunately wally is gone for sure.

I live in Georgia, and I learned this in 8th grade: The Okefenokee Swamp is basically a large freshwater wetland-the largest in the U.S.-and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is a reserve that protects the threatened and endangered species and all of the wildlife there.
I got to meet Wally once along with his owner, he was nice, mainly met them through having to draw Wally in an art class to practice illustrating an animal. He was scary at first because alligators are intimidating but from the amount of people touching and petting him and his overall mood, he was chill. I hope Wally can be found and brought back to his owner.

They’re criminals not pranksters. Broke onto this guys property and stole his pet. Charge anyone you can to the full extent of the law. For example charge the trapper for refusing to say where he sent the alligator. He’s hiding information, pressure him. Bet you a large amount of money that Wally never made it to another pond. I wouldn’t say the gator is domesticated, more like tamed. Domesticated animals take generations of breeding, while tamed animals are more similar to their wild counterparts but were raised by humans.
This legit hits hard for me personally. A couple of years ago Joie came to our church with Wally for a special sermon and at the end of the morning sermon he was at the front entrance hall where we were able to pet Wally if we'd like. I got to pet him and he was extreme calm and chill. Hope we get Wally back 🙏
Not telling them where they put the alligator is crazy. Maybe it makes sense from any wild alligator, but for one that was domesticated and is a pet, they should understand that it’s a death sentence and he needs to try and find it as soon as possible. Theories in the comments say that the Trapper most likely killed the alligator due to his shady locations. To avoid back lash of a celebrity pet, the Trapper lies and avoids questions. I live in the Okefenokee swamp. If he did release him there then lied about the other A: it was probably illegal, and why he won't say/changed his story. The park is very controlled with the gators and I gotta imagine, unless you're with the park, just releasing them into the swamp is not a good idea. The swamp is very delicate especially RN with ball Python issue, and even tho more gators would help, artificial introduction without tracking probably isn't a good idea. B: if he did get released in the Okefenokee he's for sure dead and it's very sad. We're already having issues with our gators with the aforementioned python problem, taking out the young(which wally looks either very young or unusually small), between getting knocked off by another gator, a ball python, not being able to hunt. Unfortunately wally is not making it. We already got people fighting to try an keep our gators alive, and those are the well adjusted wild ones. If wally shows back up, it would actually be a miracle.

Wally is most likely dead. I want to pass along some important background info pertaining to this situation. If someone calls in a nuisance alligator, a trapper is sent out to deal with that gator. The state of Georgia doesn’t allow relocation of nuisance alligators over 4 feet in length (idk how long Wally was but if he was over that then he definitely wasn’t relocated). Majority of trappers shoot the gator to sell the meat and hide. Some will also lie about the destiny of that gator (Lying that it will go to a good farm, but is actually shot). Hence why the trapper won’t say anything about the whereabouts of Wally. Even if he was small enough to relocate and the trapper was nice enough to actually do that, alligators have been known to cannibalize and attack other alligators in territorial disputes. Dropping Wally suddenly into a swamp with 20 other gators could cause him to get attacked by the others as he would be seen as an intruder. They can also die from too much stress. That psychopath who stole Wally needs to be found and charged for their crimes!

The trapper probably isn’t giving up the location of the gator because the gator isn’t alive anymore. He definitely either humanely or inhumanely euthanized it and doesn’t wanna be caught for THEIR mistake. The amount of times the story changed because of them is enough evidence as is. Anytime a story changes abruptly the person being questioned is normally in the wrong/in on it.

The person he was staying with has admitted in messages with people living on the cul-de-sac where Wally was found that Wally escaped and that he knew Joie didn't have the needed permits.

People need to understand that wild animals raised as pets can never go back to the wild. The predators lose the ability and knowledge of how to successfully hunt and the prey don't know how to survive longer then 24 hours. To add a bit of context as to why that trapper might refuse to help: within the community of people who take care of alligators and other wild animals, it is well known you can train an animal like this to be calm and respond positively to certain things, but they also emphasize the fact that it is still a wild animal that will never be domesticated.
These people do not respect Wally's owner because they believe his behavior to be dangerous and inappropriate, and as professionals i am a bit inclined to believe that if Wally was any bigger he'd be a threat regardless of how sweet he might seem on a daily basis.

Trapper isn't giving information about where he dropped him off, because he doesn't want the alligator to be found. This could be for several reasons, my money is on:
1: Alligator died in front of trapper
2: Alligator sustained abuse amidst capture
3: Alligator was shot by trapper using a "Bang stick"

He could, but there's probably little use. Whether people like it or not, in civil law (torts to be specific), pets are property. So what would he sue for? The value of the alligator. It's highly unlikely to be a windfall of money that people want for the owner.

And besides, wild animals that have been so closely raised by humans have an incredibly low chance of survival in the wild. IF the trapper released Wally, he has little to no chance of survival. But the trapper most likely "took care" of the poor thing.

There's another reason why he might not have - maybe wally got attacked right after he released him and the trapper saw it happen, and just isn't disclosing that it happened out of fear of being held responsible for it. If that didn't happen, he probably would've died of starvation anyway so... unfortunately wally is gone for sure.

Nah, that's not it. From what I've seen the 'prankster' does this somewhat regularly with other gators. People are actually extremely comfortable around alligators because they're often much more docile than crocs. All you need is a brave idiot and they'll wrangle a gator. I got to meet Wally once along with his owner, he was nice, mainly met them through having to draw Wally in an art class to practice illustrating an animal. He was scary at first because alligators are intimidating but from the amount of people touching and petting him and his overall mood, he was chill. I hope Wally can be found and brought back to his owner.
Me too! His owner used to walk him around my local mall (we're from relatively the same area in PA) and I met him. He really was a chill little guy and it's a shame he got taken.
I don't think Wally is alive. Apart from other possibilities that we're written by others, there is one many humans doesn't consider. Wally is an alligator and not some human, so he might have died from depression anyways after realising situation he in.

I believe it was maybe premeditated as well, to which in that case it would be called murder what they did to Wally. And I'm not just saying that because I love animals too much - going out of your way (of course, if this incident even was premeditated) to destroy an animal either in some type of "revenge" because it hurt your pet or someone you know, or simply because you just want to kill and leave it there, or because you want to get back at the pet's owner for something, is labeled murder upon an animal.

For example charge the trapper for refusing to say where he sent the alligator. He’s hiding information, pressure him. Bet you a large amount of money that Wally never made it to another pond. He got put down, cleaned and sold.

I wouldn’t say the gator is domesticated, more like tamed. Domesticated animals take generations of breeding, while tamed animals are more similar to their wild counterparts but were raised by humans.

A couple of years ago Joie came to our church with Wally for a special sermon and at the end of the morning sermon he was at the front entrance hall where we were able to pet Wally if we'd like. I got to pet him and he was extreme calm and chill. Hope we get Wally back 🙏

Not telling them where they put the alligator is crazy. Maybe it makes sense from any wild alligator, but for one that was domesticated and is a pet, they should understand that it’s a death sentence and he needs to try and find it as soon as possible. It’s like trapping a house cat and leaving it with a bunch of feral cats.
Theories in the comments say that the Trapper most likely killed the alligator due to his shady locations. To avoid back lash of a celebrity pet, the Trapper lies and avoids questions. Possible alligator harvest locations or plainly reducing alligator population by killing Wally are the things folks are suggesting.
It's because he's already dead. The trapper likely didn't place him anywhere beyond a trashcan.

A: it was probably illegal, and why he won't say/changed his story. The park is very controlled with the gators and I gotta imagine, unless you're with the park, just releasing them into the swamp is not a good idea.
The swamp is very delicate especially RN with ball Python issue, and even tho more gators would help, artificial introduction without tracking probably isn't a good idea.
B: if he did get released in the Okefenokee he's for sure dead and it's very sad.
We're already having issues with our gators with the aforementioned python problem, taking out the young(which wally looks either very young or unusually small), between getting knocked off by another gator, a ball python, not being able to hunt. Unfortunately wally is not making it. We already got people fighting to try an keep our gators alive, and those are the well adjusted wild ones. If wally shows back up, it would actually be a miracle.
This makes me so sad… I have an emotional support leopard gecko, and he’s my best friend. Literally the sweetest most chill gecko, and I bring him everywhere with me because of my horrible social anxiety. If anything were to happen to him, I honestly don’t know what I would do..
