In the grand scheme of things Diamond is good, being top 1% at a video game isn’t a joke (or anything for that matter). If I had a top 1% SAT score everyone would consider me to be very smart. However to someone like DL who is at the absolute highest level of what’s he’s doing, being in just the top 1% isn’t good relative to him. DL and Bio would both absolutely shit on a diamond player, to them diamond isn’t good. However compared to the majority of league players? Yes. Anyone who isn’t at a Challenger to GM caliber calling Diamond bad is talking out of their ass completely.

There were a lot of Pros in Diamond because Master Tier was introduced seasons later. S3 Diamond was much more competitive than it is now even if the overall skill-level of players has increased over time. That is because the Top % of players were all competing for that Challenger threshold. There was the infamous video of Bjergsen (maybe the best NA player at the time) getting demoted to Diamond I after he WON in Challenger.

Now there are 2 tiers between diamond and challenger, so nowadays you have to be at least diamond 1 to be considered even remotely good
