Very true I was in a F3 back in 1987 no sirens went off was not even any storm warnings was just a light rain. Then other times it went off and nothing.

That's also a problem, "false alarms" desensitize people...

How's it sound? Sounds beautiful to me as a storm spotter for the past 20 years. They say what do you do it for, to hear that sound... That sounds means I did my job and that is to buy as much time as possible for folks to get to shelter. I've chased historic tornadoes, even been ticketed while doing so, judge threw it out and said of a storm that killed 11 in a small town, that number would have easily been twice as high, thank you for your service... He had a family gathering and they wouldn't have had a clue as it came up fast. Have an unlisted direct line to the national weather service in The Quad Cities and during that storm they stayed on the line with me for all but three miles of the tornadoes track, three counties, dozens of township's and countless folks in the path and I was the only spotter live on the ground tracking that particular cell from start to finish, the history channel did a special on it, Utica Illinois. Check it out.
