I grew up on Guam starting in the mid 60's I remember flying to Saipan on Air Micronesia in the 727's once you landed on the old Japanase air field you would be taxing back to the terminal with nothing but jungle on either side of the plane. The "terminal" back then was an old quonset hut. The only hotel on the island was the Royal Taga hotel. I used to play on a word war II tank that was in the water in front of the beach.
Amazing presentation. I visited Saipan twice in the mid seventies and have seen many of these places. It was fascinating to see places like Marpi Point which were once had an airfield and hundreds of personnel living there and now there is no trace it.
Wow , you did an awesome job in this video. Missing Saipan. .. I was there September 1985 - February 2017……… We have a lot of memories in this Paradise Island SAIPAN………….
My late father a Navy Pharmacist Mate, landed at red beach with the 2MarDiv, losing two landing craft of five with Medical supplies, surviving the first banzi charge, receiving a commission and helping to oversee the many compounds of Camp Susupe. He returned home in 1946. Retiring with 30 years in 1960. Would only mention Saipan when very inebriated and then I couldn't understand. Narragansett Bay
