    Thank you for throwing some love to Brutfuner squares, Evezar Londons, and Prismacolor Verithin pencil sets. Now that there are a lot of sales going on for Back To School and also Labor Day, a lot of art supplies are dropping to nice, low prices. Keep an eye out. Since I do a lot of portraits, I focus on portrait sets out of some more expensive brands, which are affordable in the limited palettes used for portraits. The Colorista Portrait set by Spectrum Noir is $5.00 for 13 pencils. They have 3 other specific sets of 12 each (Vivid & Bright, Floral, and Landscape), bringing their total to 48 pencils for $20. I use them to mix with other sets because they have some beautiful colors to add to the range of other sets.

      Lovely! I have been trying to find some other portrait skin tone sets by other brands. I do like Prismacolor skin tones but sometimes I want to try other brands. I'll have to check out the spectrum noir pencils. Last I checked they were a bit pricey but now is a good time to check as you mentioned. :)

    Thanks for creating this video! One of my favorite budget friendly oil based pencil sets is the brand Huhuhero. You can only get them as a 120 set and the price fluctuates, but I've seen them for as low as $13 on sale. Love them. They work really well on all types of paper, even smooth copy paper.

      I haven't heard of that one before and will keep an eye out for them. Thanks for the tip! I found some Japanese made pencils recently that I'm trying out this weekend and will share a video about my findings of those. I do enjoy how different each brand works on different paper and it keeps me on my toes to try new application methods.

    Schpirrer Farbens are a good budget, oil based pencil. I enjoy using them.

    The best budget set is Flowood 160 tin, but they are more in the medium price range . H and B pencils are also very good; they range in price from medium to high. They are very creamy oil-based professional-level laydowns, very smooth, sharpen very well, and blend great with my FC Polychromos. The colors are very bright and vivid-just my personal choice. I love them.

      I've heard nice things about Flowood but haven't been able to find a set. I'll keep an eye out on the H&B too. It's nice to find pencils that work well with each other.

      Thanks for the tip. Yes, sorry about the speed There is a neat setting in TH-cam to slow down any video in the settings. I do that for flip through videos

    Bruh…I just got the Amazon Basics 24 set for $4.99!!! 🤯 I thought they would be cheap in quality, but I find them to only be a step below prismacolor premier. They are soft and very pigmented. They blend well but take a little bit more effort than prismacolor premier. For $5, they are amazing!

    • @JodyMoments
      @JodyMoments  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a sweet deal for them. The 72 Amazon basic set I picked up were faulty. Using them resulted in super bad smears with a light brush of a hand or finger and they smelled strong, kind of reminded me of bbq lighter fluid. I heard from others it wasn't the case for them. Because of that, I didn't share that brand as it can be hit or miss on the quality. Sounds like you have a good batch. :)

    • @Rich_Larr
      @Rich_Larr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JodyMomentsoof! Yeah that was not the case for me. There was no smell, they sharpen up well, and the lay down was smooth. If I could add a photo, I’d show a side by side blending exercise I always do when I get a new set. Pretty much the exact same as prismacolor but it took just a few more layers.

      @JodyMoments  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Rich_Larr that's intriguing. Maybe the larger set is faulty or something. I see them for 3.99 for the 24 pack so I'll have to try them again. Trusting in you bruh! :)

    Hey amazing video!
    Thank you for amazing content
    I consider buying brutfuner or arrtx as a new artist would you tell which one do you prefer the most?

    • @JodyMoments
      @JodyMoments  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would pick the Arrtx based on the multiple types of paper they do well with, but softer and I like the super light and super dark color range. They layer well as well for art.

    Is it better to buy oil based or wax based

    • @JodyMoments
      @JodyMoments  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wax-based are great when you want to get color down within a few layers. Oil-based pencils seem to take much longer as they require more patience adding multiple layers to apply deeper more vibrant colors on the page. The end result with an oil-based pencil is the colors are much more brilliant and there's rarely any wax bloom (a type of thin milky layer that sometimes happens with wax based pencils). So, I like having both, some pencils for fast coloring and some that are oil based when I want to take my time and relax coloring a page. I would suggest picking up a pencil or two of different brands at the art store to see what you like to color with the most.

    Amazing, the price differences of different countries. These that you mentioned is some of the most expensive pencils in South Africa. You did not even got one of our least expensive (affordable but good) pencils. For instance Prismacolor is almost double the price of Polychromos in SA. Then what about Derwent, Black Widow and Colleens. Those are our better priced pencils.

    • @JodyMoments
      @JodyMoments  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Connie! Thanks for sharing those tips. Derwent and Polychromos get more pricey in the states so I didn't include them . I have some friends that live in South Africa but most of them are gamers so they never shared coloring supply costs that way. I have the two sets of black widow skin color pencils and I am still learning how to use them so they didnt make it on the list. Good to know those are cheaper that way. For some reason my friends refer SA as ZA. :)

      @@JodyMoments the only disadvantage is that they don’t really have a good full spectrum set. They have two pastel shade ones, and one mix of skin tones + other basic tones. There is a weird one that is double-ended, but I have not seen them come out with a full 100 set.

    • @Velocityshadow
      @Velocityshadow 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@vilvile I've seen some pencil sets do that. The ones I was looking at was the double-sided, when I was researching different types of pencils.
