Nice job to both, this is serious and clean alpinism, and love the pre-scenes
I went up on the cable car. Chamonix lies at 1035 mtrs and summit of the Aiguille is 3842 .Thats a 9000 ft drop with one wrong move. Watched them coming up ridge while on top .Awesome. Climbed all my life but no way this.Just as difficult as the Himalayas . Only difference is the altitude and weather. Chamonix is my favourite place on earth.
Its just a question of equipment, physical condition and courage. the technique is not an issue, everybody can do that moves....
I might try it if there were a dozen or so cafe stops along the way. Way too long a stretch for my old-man legs.
Himalayas are way easier than this (the difficult there is the altitude)
yeah, from one side you have the rope everywhere in the 8ers… but its not only altitude mate, rockfalls, avalanches, cravasses, tou have to be total badass as this one here

I remember being on the Aiguille du Midi and watching the climbers approaching the station ……. it is quite beyond me how people can live so close to certain death. I was happy to ski the 22km Vallee Blanche from the Aiguille but I couldn't do that climb for anything!
Yeah, I remember the tram sailing over a couple climbing straight up there. Impressive!

What's the orange snakey thing over his shoulder? Does he just carry that for weight-training?
Sophie -Grace if this is an honest question, it’s a coiled climbing rope. He may use it as a safety device to rappel off the route if he gets in trouble and needs to go down before completing the climb. One would carry it routinely in the Rockies where one is often in the backcountry and there isn’t a convenient cable car at the top. I love climbing in the Alps where you would rarely die without being in site of at least a Michelin 3 star restaurant.

Bonjour j'ai 15 ans je suis un bébé alpiniste (je suis juste aller au refuge du Gouter (ancien refuge) à 3815 mètres).
En combien de temps grimpons nous pour les 1000 mètres de glace de face raide?
C'est important pour moi car c'est utile pour les autres sommets pas loins (Mont Blanc du Tacul, Pointe Lachenal, Grand Capucin, Glacier du Geant...etc ) et par cet endroit c'est plus un racourcis que de contourner les Aiguilles de Chamonix.
En plus je n'aime pas passer par le téléferique.
Super video en tout cas Bravo à vous pour l'ascension et votre courage.

Beautiful climbing.
It always seems such a contrast to be climbing a serious route with cable car over your head. It does make the descent a lot less stressful.
Pfiou, avec une pente à 75° (lu sur camptocamp mais c'est "maxi" ou en moyenne ?), j'aurais tellement de flip sans être encordé ^^ . Chapeau bas à ces alpinistes complètement "givrés" si j'ose dire ^^ De bien belles images et aucune musique, merci pour ce dernier point, le son réel suffit tellement ! (bon juste le bruit des crampons sur le caillou que je déteste, même quand j'y suis moi même lol)

Bonjour, je suis admiratif. Un moment, avant une cheminée de glace, vous semblez aller chercher une assurance dans la roche, on vous voit accrocher quelque chose, et .... rien, toujours libre.
Sinon, j'ai de la peine a vous regarder monter sans jamais vous attacher, je ne sais pas finalement vous prenez de gros risques ou non?

+Stephane Metairie Bonjour Stéphane, je m'étais arrêté à un relais avant la goulotte de glace pour marquer une pause et laisser le temps à David de se positionner en amont pour pouvoir filmer.
Dans ce type de terrain nous gardons une bonne marge de sécurité. Les conditions étaient bonnes, ce qui ne rendait pas notre escalade aléatoire. Nous grimpons aussi régulièrement seul et avons un petit peu d'expérience dans ce style.
Le risque est très calculé.

No, its the Mont Blanc... it has much more summit aspirants.
So how many climbers die each year in Chamonix alone? Use the rope guys. Ask your loved ones why you should. Or did you never in your life drop something by accident, never made a mistake or misjudged something?

At 3:18 (and 4:59?) one of my pet hates when following someone up a route; snotting. I don't want to climb or drag my ropes through that. Not an issue here but some routes are busy. I once belayed below a cornice and found I got shit all over my ropes and gloves. No way of cleaning it off. Spare a thought for those behind you.

Certainly he is a great climber.
Perhaps the camera staff is a much greater climber.

Faut regarder les commentaires, moi aussi je cherchais la réponse ;) C'est pour la descente en rappel, s'il y a un problème avant la fin de l'ascension, cette corde lui permet de descendre plus rapidement en rappel
