In dangerous areas - DO NOT use earphones/airppods/etc. They mask the sounds of someone, or a vehicle, coming up behind you, or close to you. Unless you're next to, or going to the beach, don't wear flip flops/thongs, no wedges/clogs ladies. Always wear sneakers/trainers. Because there might be a situation where you might need to RUN. Many of us backpackers are always trying to find the cheapest lodging, keep in mind, that almost always means lower income, and the higher crime areas. The more a person 'needs', the less they have to lose, in committing crime. Read comments/reviews about the lodging. If you see anything like, "The owner said don't go out at night!" Don't stay there. lol True. Every city and place in the world can be a location where a crime can occur. While in Colombia, from our balcony, I saw two people get mugged about 60 yards from my hostel. One was by a person on a motorcycle, one was by a person that got out of a car. Both incidents occurred at night. In high crime areas, don't go out alone at night, if you don't have to. Please be safe out there, everyone.
I think in 99% of places you shouldn't go out at night alone. With friends it might be ok. But alone you're always an easy target, no matter which country/ area. Even in the middle of the day, there are enough places to avoid. I mean this literally happened to me around 9am in the morning 😢😢
Good thing you are not hurt. If you'll go back to Asia, please consider visiting Philippines. We're not the safest country, but people here are accommodating and helpful. Take care Tina
As a new TH-camr and solo traveler myself, I feel that you pointed out the importance of safety when travelling solo. At the moment I am in Athens, Greece. My next destination will be Italy and I’ll be there for a month, travelling mainly on the South of Italy, where it is heard that this thing of stolen phones exactly how it was about to happen to you, it is kind of known that they do it. So I am gonna be extra careful now. Happily from March I’ll travel to Japan, so I’ll be safe . Please take care of yourself always and don’t be afraid to speak out when in danger. ☺️🤗🌹
Thank you dear!! I wish you an amazing time in Italy and Japan!! ✨😊 I heard similar stories about other places in Europe 😢 Japan is pretty safe compared to that. If you haven't seen my older videos, I've been living in Japan! Feel free to ask if you have questions.
@@tinahuegel Oh I have seen all your videos from Japan, I am following you since you were living there:) I’m happy for your journey that you have chosen on travelling the world. You are a great woman and a brave one. ☺️🌹🥰
I'm sorry you went through that experience. Sometimes when you go to places like this where everything looks run down it increases anxiety and then when something happens it confirms your fear. It is a real trauma even though nothing was taken. I do suggest you speak to a therapist even if it is just for a quick session as it can have a long lasting effect if left.
Yes, it was really scary :) But while traveling I can't afford any kind of therapy. Or it would be difficult to arrange that ... but I'm fine :) Luckily nothing happened and I will take it as a lesson. And I really hope others will learn from my experience too! :)
I'm happy to hear you aren't hurt. You have a positive outlook. I also learned a lesson when I got all my stuff stolen including my passport, credit cards, money etc.. its shocking when it happens. I'm interested to hear what happened and what advice you have for us. Hope you are feeling ok!
I assume you read the description :) Oh yes, these things are really scary 💦 I'm sorry to hear that happened to you! It makes me angry that people do that. 🥲 Hope the tips in this video will be useful.
You are so lucky to see all the countries if you want to get your video reach you should choose a place like India in which kerala is the best tourist place
Bin sehr vorsichtig seitdem. Ein bisschen paranoid macht es einen auch, weil man ja auch nicht permanent vorbereitet sein kann. Aber ich habe viel daraus gelernt und hoffe viele lernen dann von meinen Fehlern!! :)
I certainly don't want to downplay the experience but you're saying that in all your solo travels as a small white woman, the only thing that has ever happened was a guy on a motorcycle tried to grab your phone as he drove past, failed, and then left you alone? I went into this video assuming so much worse than that. People get robbed at gun/knife point, kidnapped, drugged, etc. I'm sorry that happened to you and that is definitely uncomfortable. I'm glad you're sharing the experience but that unfortunately sounds normal :(
My main goal with this video is to help people be safe and not to provide you with a shocking story. Sorry it didn't meet your expectations. xD And before you judge how bad this really is you have to make this experience yourself! Or else you maybe just really don't get it.

That's a good argument about the earphones. But you don't hear them even without earphones! I did not hear the guy at all 🥲

Nice information ma'am.
Thank you 🙏✨
May I make a suggestion.
Get a door stopper with alarm so if someone has the key 🔑 to your room it will trigger and scare them and wake you up
I'm not in Kenya. I'm traveling all the time :)
it has to do...some countries in Africa and all countries in Latin America not safe for everyone
