Yes, you are correct, but early on in his career he would fly open with the front glove (but he kept his front shoulder in). Now, however, it seems that he has been working on that and I just saw him pitch the other day and he hit that spot that I'm talking about and his front glove doesn't fly open anymore. So he made some good adjustments.
well one of the main things I always wondered was why not just pitch from the stretch all the time instead of having to worry about the mechanics of the windup and the stretch. i know some relievers are always in the stretch but why not starters too? also what ever other insight and tips you have would also be helpful.
Make a video on proper throwing mechanics when fielding because there are so many variations and I dont know which to use please help! for both infield and outfield @YouGoPro
Hey John I've been a victim of using the first mechanics that you showed (not the inverted w) my question is what's wrong with those mechanics because they work pretty well for me and I also get some pretty good movement on my fastball using those mechanics
You will never be able to throw as fast as you're able to with that arm path because you don't put yourself in a good position to create hip to shoulder separation.
Ques about arm path. Should the arm be less than 90 degrees in its wind up? That seems to creat less tension than if at 90 or more. So for ex if at 45 before it is open whipped forward seems more natural. Am I thinking about it right?
I don't recommend the way he does it. That's like the second example I show, but he (Cole) doesn't get stuck in the inverted W at foot plant. It works for him and a few others. For younger guys though, this may cause them to open up if they're not perfect with tucking the glove in.
do you have anything on hooking the rubber like clayton kershaw does?.gives the same effect as your power pitcher device. did you hook or split the rubber?.
Hey coach was wondering when I throw I have the same kinda motion I show my number but my glove hand when I un coil it points at the target for a second than when I go to release the glove hand dips down any reason why and how would I fix this?
John I am confused with your approach. My son leads with elbow and creates torque when he comes over. You way is going to cause many pitchers to fly open and put even more strain on the shoulder due to them never torquing.
My son, Carter is nine-years-old and has a good arm. I'm teaching him to pitch from the stretch and some of the "know it all" crowd are telling us "you must" learn the wind up, too. Thanks John, I'll keep the stretch motion for now. However, if/when we do work on wind up, what age do you recommend? P.S. You have a great motion and really seem to know your stuff. Sorry so many "experts" like to debate you.
I'm 13 and I am having pain on the inside of my elbow after pitching and it usually goes away in a week and after another start it hurts really bad again and I'm not sure if it's in my mechanics or if theres inflammation in my elbow please respond
Thank you!! Love your comments!! Keep em coming!!

Thanks! Love your videos and your knowledge!!!
Do you have a step by step for these mechanics?? If so can I have a link plz
Very VERY helpful. Thank you.
You're welcome
I have considered it. If I did make this video, what would you like to hear about it? Thanks.
great vid, did you ever consider making a vid talking about pitching from the wind up vs. pitching from the stretch?

is your throwing arm relaxed in this position when you are mid-stride?
Make a video about Outfielders I'm CF and I would like to see mechanics of Throwing and some Tips, Please make one.
That sick thank you I'm a lefty first baseman I used to pitch a little bit them i had a injection in my shoulder maybe that's why thank you
Well, if you are doing something right, I'm hoping you see better results than if you are doing something wrong, right?

did you hook or split the rubber?.
Can you show us some pitching mechanics for beginners?

Very helful thx
You’re welcome
Is it usual For there to be pain there after pitching

Once I got to college, I was always from the stretch. No wind up.

does it add any MPH or Accuracy? or its just the right way
Take a look at Cole Hamels...This has been very successful for the kids i coach.
Mark prior threw from reverse W as well as aroldis chapman
thanks jonh
You're welcome GM!
I really wish you would have made this video a few minutes longer and showed some drills to get to this position at front foot strike.
Is there a problem with Flex T?
Good question...you shouldn't listen to me either...you should listen to you!
I’ve had shoulder problems. My elbow is getting way in front
I'm 13 and I am having pain on the inside of my elbow after pitching and it usually goes away in a week and after another start it hurts really bad again and I'm not sure if it's in my mechanics or if theres inflammation in my elbow please respond
Now you are 20
Coach, let me know what you think of my daughter?
Inverted W is an M isn’t it?
Arnoldis Chapman separates at an angle too
Bumgardner is extended straight.
Keeping the throwing hand up is also another way.
"Don't listen to my pitching coach"? But ur my pitching coach :)
Just one question..... Why should we stop listening to our pitching coach when you are our pitching coach??
No way, this keeps them closed longer.
sounds like something you need to talk to your doctor about
:)
All those pitchers did point their elbow tors home plate, and so did u. Come on?
Naw son, you're mistaken...
Too fat, old, and hurt. ;)
No, go see a doctor
Can you please read my comment
