True story: Shortly before I moved back to Virginia (late 70s), Bill Murray moved next door to my Dad. When I was a kid, my Dad and I didn't get along so well; so he sent me to a child psychiatrist. His name was Leon (not Leo). Years later, he would write a book entitled-'Fear Of Success'-and then he eventually ended up going to the Vatican to meet the Pope (John Paul II) with (drum roll, please): Richard Dreyfuss! And I was living in Virginia at the time. I didn't even know this movie existed until just a couple of days ago. Even more ironic is that Bill Murray got along better with my Dad then I did (sigh).
@@RoadTripTravis : It was in Rockland County, NY; Rt. 9w, W. Nyack; where Bruce Springsteen recorded the title track to his 'Born To Run' album: that's where Bill Murray moved next door to my Dad. A little travelling music for you!
Yeah! The house and the hospital and the store are all really close. I can't remember exactly how far but it was a short drive from one to another. I hope you get some great shots!
I know we live in hard times. The rich get richer and the middle class to poor get poorer. But I still don’t know how a small town can allow it’s claim to fame fall apart like that. Not even a hint of preservation. I was in those businesses when I was on vacation as a child with my parents. It was about 2-3 years after the movie came out. It was so cool, not just for the movie reasons, but because it felt like u went back to a simpler time. A general store and a old style restaurant, side by side. There were production photos from the movie hung everywhere. Now it’s just left to rot. It’s too bad the folks that made the movie couldn’t check back in on its condition and maybe lent a helping hand to revive it. But as I said in my first couple sentences, that’s the state of our country these days. Sad and selfish. ☹️
So sad! I’d totally vacation there and pay for like a what about Bob tour!
Me too!
At least for a minute it loaned some prestige to Smith Mountain Lake.

I can’t believe that the site where Bob calls out for Dr. Leo Marvin outside of the small grocery store is now a ghost town! Eerie!!!
It really is eerie! Cool but definitely eerie!
It was always a ghost town ,it was abandoned before the film crew got their an built it back up
Nice video, is the house close to the other filming locations? I was thinking about going there and getting some aerial shots.
