Another great video. Frame joiners as the car is a unibody, this idea goes all the way back to muscle cars, tower braces major aid is to stop tower flex and camber change under hard cornering
"how did Mazda know we were going to want to do this years from now?" *cat walks into garage* my thoughts: HOLY SHIT MAZDA HAS FUTURE CAT RECONNAISSANCE UNITS!
I want a 'freaking random cat' sticker to put somewhere random and out of the way on my car. So that when someone else is working on it and looks in some weird place, bam, freaking random cat
I run large trucks (4-5 ton gvwr) but most of the principles and things discussed on this channel are the same... plus it gives me an insight on how other countries run cars... love this channel.
I installed an OEM three point front strut brace on my 1996 Toyota Corolla AE102, which bolts to the strut towers and the firewall. On a car that was made with poor steering from the factory, it made a MASSIVE difference. It'll make a much smaller difference due to the Miata's design (tilted front shocks and naturally neutral steering) but on family cars, it's awesome. But wait until you get coilovers...
Hey guys, love your videos. I work on my vehicles quite often and I always use eye protection when I'm under my car or when I'm drilling or grinding. There's stuff that can drop down from above when you're laying under the car. Don't want that in your eye. I wouldn't want you guys to get any foreign objects in your eye from drilling or grinding either. You guys mentioned the jack stands as safety things. That's great. There's a lot of stories out there of bad things happening with hydraulic jacks and not using jack stands.
Not gonna lie, this Miata is looking pretty badass. Super clean/cheap/entry level goodness. I love builds like this, something that most people could build with a little cash and some free time.
I installed all of the Ultra Racing bracing onto my Porsche Boxster S. Night and day change. The NVH improved. I then installed PU bushing everyware, replaced all control arms with upgraded rose joints, installed H&R sway bars and Bilstien PSS9s. Its chasis, suspension and mounts are as upgraded as you can go. Handles as tight as a nuns hey-hey.
Just wanted to put this out there. The subframe brace and the Strut tower brace should NOT be installed with the wheels in the air. It preloads the bracing when the car is put back on the floor causing lots of tension and can even affect your alignment. The proper way to install any bracing is to use Rhino ramps or a lift that doesnt unload the suspension.
Just a little something else.. Never use jack stands at full height. Try and use them at 95% (second to last hole on these ones). It's just that little bit safer. It may just save a life.
i said the same thing yesterday, and it looks like mcm doesnt like constructive criticism from people who actually know...so theyve deleted my comments...thats cool...just remember my name when you snap a bolt next time ;)
Moog, that electrical charge device you're talking about actually is supposed to charge your muscles up to contract itself, not melt away the fat! That goes back so many decades ago! Even Bruce Lee used it to stay cut by making his muscles contract and stay ripped even while relaxing!
The look on Marty's face when you said they "zoom zoomed back to the future". The look of him processing what you just said staring into your soul. Then you you yell at the about the cat. I watched that like 8 times still funny as heck.
Just get one! They are cheap and fucking hilarious to drive, mine always put a smile on my face until a woman in VW Beetle crashed into me and sent me into the corner of a house... Spent ££££'s, time and effort on mighty mods but insurance gave me £600 and crushed my poor little MX5. Never love your car... :(
as much as i reeeeealy wanna see the new cars, i gained even more respect for Mighty Car Mods when they said they were gonna Finish the MX5 first. that's Maaaad follow-through guys!
talking about all these car thefts, I remember a while back some guy at a party took my keys to my 86 BMW 325e and tried to get away with it. MFW he realized my 1986 E30 had a fucking 4-digit passcode ignition lock!
I installed a TRD underbrace last summer on my MK1 Toyota Echo Hatchback , I noticed a big difference in the feel of the car on the track ( daily driving no difference ). Especially in one S curve when the weight of the car shifts quickly from one side to the other, it felt a lot more stable.
I installed Ultra racing antiroll and front strut bars on my Vios after watching the video... the difference on handling between before and after installation is really apparent, i feel the car a lot stable during high speed and cornering .... good stuff, car manufacturers should have install them on stock cars...:) great stuff... thanks MCM for recommending.....
Finally, a new video, but when are we going to see the new rides?!? This is useful info! I'll need to do some mods so that I can stiffen the chassis for the circuit tracks! "When it's stiffer, you can go harder!" Is that what she said? LOL
I know, that really sucks having your hard work, pride & joy being stolen... F#@K THIEVES! We should implement a worldwide law like the Middle East where all thieves get their hands CHOPPED! And I mean that in a PERMANENT modification to show everyone what a DOUCHEBAG they really are!
so i just watched 14 minutes of MCM, and this is the one episode i was waiting for the past 3-4 weeks and they dont show it.. wheres my knife at? i need some alone time.
You should have taken the car for a test drive! I would have loved to hear your opinions on how it felt. But thus is a great mod, I'm definitely going to do this to my 1.8t scirocco
I have the front strutbar from ultra racing one my bmw e36, and because they are so damn flat, they absorb a lot of force. The difference in handeling is amazing! Awesome mod, better said: it's a MIGHTY MOD!
Even a front upper strut tower brace on my Civic made it feel just a bit more solid. It's very minimal, but I feel a little more confident about entering corners. But if you're going to tracks often, definitely get like a full kit or something.
Mild steel isn't double the strength of Al. 6061 runs around 350 MPa, mild steel is around 500 MPa, but Al has a density a little over 2 times lower than mild steel, making it more structurally efficient. If you go to 7075, the strength to weight ratio is over double that of mild steel.
+DjRjSolarStar Mild steel has the advantage when a smaller cross section is needed. By weight they're similar strength, but by volume steel is stronger.
Or if you really want to shed weight and add massive strength, 3-D printed carbon fiber! Most of the weight shed would be from the wallet I think. haha
I did this mod on my car. I have to say the underbrace stuff does almost nothing the strut brace lowers body roll a bit. but the noticeable differences is when you upgrade the actual suspension components which is sometimes cheaper than a full body brace.
This kind of bracing won't really prevent body roll, but it does resist the chassis flexing ('the fifth spring'), especially when the car has stiffer springs fitted. A stiffer chassis means more consistent handling and potentially NVH improvements because things aren't bending and creaking. Ultimately the effectiveness of each kind of brace is going to depend on the car and how the brace distributes the forces. I don't like the ladder brace design in the video, something like the Flyin Miata butterfly brace is a better design.
I can attest that a strut tower bar will definitely help you in an accident. Last year I hydroplaned and spun my car off of the highway, while spinning the passenger's front fender hit an exit sign and caved in the structure under the fender. Later when taking everything apart I removed the strut tower bar and without it there to support the chassis the tower caved in toward the center of the car a good 2 or 3 inches, had the bar not been there at all it probably would have been even worse. ...after that I'm never not running a strut tower bar.
Should do a video on detailing the engine bay of the mx5, valve cover like an sr20?? Just lose all of the factory metal that's corroded and make it MAAAADDD!!
You guys should make an MCM hoodie or shirt that has the picture of that random cat with the phrase "There's a freaking random cat!" on it. I'd buy so many of them it'd be awesome!
getting some of these for my festiva to stop it flopping around in the corners, front strut bar, crossmember bar and rear strut bar are available and I'm getting all three.
I think you have a defective pixel on your cam :) It's in the vertical middle, about 20% of the width from the right. And... a great video, once again :D
hey guys. Awesome episode as usual.I know you guys are worried about car being stolen but I have to say that people shouldn't hide the keys to their cars like you suggested, because if someone is desperate enough to come into your house to take the keys to your car I am sure they would also wake you up and threaten you to hand over the keys too. Just saying I would rather them take the keys and not bother my family and I then to have to force us to hand over the keys. Love the MX5 and can't wait to see the new cars too!!! :)
I enjoy working on my domani but im only going to be in japan for a few more years. its nice to have videos like this with some quick mods that make a real difference in performance
"You can do the whole car under 2 hours..." Obviously you never worked on a volvo before... :D 2 Days seems more like it. BTW I like to have the car on the ground when i tighten any bolt that has to do with suspension or chassis.
Nice video again. Dont expect big improvements from this mod, your suspension will feel a bit harder but most chassis these days are very solid from factory.
Hey MCM i have an idea for a new video, Explain compression Surge, turbo flutter And if its good or bad for your car, what's happening and Is there a BOV that makes that sound? Like this so they can see it! :)
Compression surge is when you have no BOV and the compressed air goes back against the turbine when you lift off the throttle. This is bad for the turbo as it can cause the turbine to reverse and cripple the turbo. :/ Hope this helps.
Actually can't wait to see how the UR braces perform. I've heard they're cheap and Malaysian, not that those 2 things are related, but some people like to scoff at them compared to some higher-priced brands. I know this is a pay to see play game, but if the actual advantages between UR and other brands are minimal, I don't see an issue with them. I know you said you weren't going to test 2 different brands, but perhaps that would be a good "myth busters" episode. Good work guys! Love the show.
>ONE MONTH LATER >TONS OF POINTLESS SEMA VIDEOS >NOT A COOL MONTAGE LIKE LAST YEAR >FINALLY A NEW VIDEO >OH WAIT, FIFTEEN MINUTES OF PUTTING ON A STRUT BRACE >RANDOM CAT jesus christ my jimmies are rustled I'm 10/10 mad, I'm flying to fucking Aussieland just to see this car myself fuck TH-cam.
Sema is the same year to year, if we'd done the same video your comment would be 'video is the same'. We do what we want to with the time we have and most people seem to enjoy it.
Removing the plastic from such things definitely is the hardest part...I remember myself putting something together which was tubes powder coated and wrapped...I'm pretty sure I spent more time on removing the wrap then assembly.
4:48 wtf, thats an almost 25 year old MX-5, and no rust. If that was in northern Europe where i live, it would look like a dogs dinner under that thing. I gotta get outta here!
Jimmie Rustle I live in Latvia and here cars cost same amout as in Aus but they are in at least 20 times worse shape. So I'd say this side of Europe car market is pretty fucked up.
Oockeshoek 35% luxury import tax. then local car makers - Holden (GM) and Toyota put similar prices on there luxury vehicles to try and make a big profit
Just a thought, put a couple of relays and switches on a few circuits that control power to the fuel pump, power to the ECM/PCM, or power to the ignition system also you can by main disconnect switches for the battery from most auto parts stores (you will lose your radio presets if you go that route). Mount the switches any where you like. It may not stop someone from breaking into your car but it will definitely deter them from actually stealing your car as whole.
Another great video. Frame joiners as the car is a unibody, this idea goes all the way back to muscle cars, tower braces major aid is to stop tower flex and camber change under hard cornering

xD
That explains the 20 cats I found in my Mazda3 that was NEW
The cats name should be Mazda. Cause he just pops in and is like "Oh, I heard someone talking about me? Meowzda.
m3rcup
So are cats rotary powered too?
I want a 'freaking random cat' sticker to put somewhere random and out of the way on my car. So that when someone else is working on it and looks in some weird place, bam, freaking random cat

Random cat demands a thumbsup.
I run large trucks (4-5 ton gvwr) but most of the principles and things discussed on this channel are the same... plus it gives me an insight on how other countries run cars... love this channel.
My brother just bought a RX7 and I got him watching MCM so I can't wait to see what mods he does. :D

good tip like!
Thank you! For those that care about performance it's actually quite a big deal.
Defiantly and a good point which wasn't stated in video so people should be made aware before modding there cars

You're tempting me so much with an MX5 guys, I can't find anything cheaper really to modify the shit out of to my tastes.
Cheap tip from a guy from the internet is "Buy the Miata".
Buy one, what's the worse that could happen. You don't like it, just sell it.
Just get one! They are cheap and fucking hilarious to drive, mine always put a smile on my face until a woman in VW Beetle crashed into me and sent me into the corner of a house... Best part of MCM history at 6 min.!!
Best episode in a while. Love how yall went back to your roots, two friends dicking around in their garage working on a car.
talking about all these car thefts, I remember a while back some guy at a party took my keys to my 86 BMW 325e and tried to get away with it. MFW he realized my 1986 E30 had a fucking 4-digit passcode ignition lock!
It actually shuts power off to the fuel pump. =)
BOTH pumps that is. Man E30's were way ahead of their time!!
That feel when you see a new mcm vid in your subscription box :)
So happy. Again. I re-watched the old episodes in the meantime. Thanks.
THERE'S A FREAKING RANDOM CAT! 6:04

Hahaha love when the cat just randomly walks in the shot like 'wazzup dudes' hahaha
That cat didnt give a shit about anything. Shows that he is happy with everything in life. That's what i aspire to be
Finally a mcm video which is longer then 2 mins and first time seeing a hammer on mcm MADDDDD!!!
so i just watched 14 minutes of MCM, and this is the one episode i was waiting for the past 3-4 weeks and they dont show it.. wheres my knife at? i need some alone time.
If you read the forum you would know that you won't see their cars until december
Antilagmike sooooooo....its like a Christmas present
i don't go on their forums much, i got school and everything so its difficult
Holy s***, I just choked on my water when I saw the cat, it nearly bloody looks like my own!
Moog was quite excited about that cat.

Great episode! I fitted a front and rear tower strut to my Mazda BF323 and the results were awesome!
I loved so hard..."THERES A FREAKING RANDOM CAT!"
I love this build the most. Can't wait to see what they're going to do in the future to the mx5
Weird. I didn't get this video in my subscription feed even though I am subscribed. I found this video in my suggestion list on the right side.
Same, kind of bothers me.
I've found bracing works wonders for keeping toe/camber set without suspension squat. the ride really gained a lot of roughness tho. great vid guys.
Best intro ever.
i never found out who took the umbrella from marty
I can attest that a strut tower bar will definitely help you in an accident.

Can't wait to see yall drive it on the track!
You guys should make an MCM hoodie or shirt that has the picture of that random cat with the phrase "There's a freaking random cat!" on it. I'd buy so many of them it'd be awesome!
Even if I never do any of these mods to my car, watching these guys is great! Very entertaining!
Is the bird OK? Did the random cat eat the bird? We need to know!
"when it's stiffer you can go harder" - Marty.
classic quote right there... just be careful guys too stiff can be bad for comfort.
Random Cat rules!
whatever57010 watches mcm. this is epic
Their best intro and intro song of them all!
Can you guys show how to change the differential? thank you.
getting some of these for my festiva to stop it flopping around in the corners, front strut bar, crossmember bar and rear strut bar are available and I'm getting all three.
I think you have a defective pixel on your cam :) It's in the vertical middle, about 20% of the width from the right.

Oh and also, those Arcon jacks are so good! I have the same one, cost me $160 from Costco :D
6:02 "IT'S A FREAKING RANDOM CAT!!!"

FINALLY.
I enjoy working on my domani but im only going to be in japan for a few more years. its nice to have videos like this with some quick mods that make a real difference in performance
I want to see their new cars already

So glad you're back. Plus, loving me some MOOG tunes.
"It's a fricking random cat" lol
i'm not even mad google+ linked to youtube because i got to see a mcm episode as soon as it was uploaded. can't wait to see the new cars.
Ultra Racing..., Malaysian company?
Yup
I love yalls videos. very excited for the upcoming epsiodes...Ive watched every episode atleast three times now.. including mcmtv2 you guys rock
you guys suck for tell us you got new cars and then going silent :D
but i love the mx-5 and hope we get videos more often!!!!
hey man, they told us they will reveal the cars in December so relax a bit.
GranTurismo
when did they say this??
MCM just keeps getting better and better :)
"You can do the whole car under 2 hours..."
Obviously you never worked on a volvo before... :D
2 Days seems more like it.
BTW I like to have the car on the ground when i tighten any bolt that has to do with suspension or chassis.
Actually tbh, its not that bad, change the sway bar once, and it didn't take too much time lol
well its not horrible.. there are worse things. but its a hell of alot longer than doing it on a japense car
Finally someone who feels my pain. Suspension isn't horrible but any engine performance mods are a pain in the ass.
completely agree... But I love them to death,
*****
Have you ever done anything related to engine performance? The damn turbo sits in the far corner of the universe on these cars.
That moment the random cat walks in 😂still makes me laugh to now
If it's stiffer it can go harder (that's what she said)
Nice video again.
Yeah ive heard that, but then others say differently.. Lets get this cleared up MCM!
very good choses of chasse braces, got the full kit for my 180sx except for the strute tower braces.
also, random cat sticker is required....
Cool! Keep the videos coming. I enjoy every one! Glad to see you got back to your roots. "step 1, JACK UP YOUR CAR!"
...and random cat loves it!!!
Always enjoy the little clips at the end
THERE'S A FREAKIN RANDOM CAT
Actually can't wait to see how the UR braces perform. I've heard they're cheap and Malaysian, not that those 2 things are related, but some people like to scoff at them compared to some higher-priced brands.

Good work guys! Love the show.

I'm 10/10 mad, I'm flying to fucking Aussieland just to see this car myself fuck TH-cam.
yea you guys are slippin
Nathan Streeter Incorrect, but there's heaps of stuff on youtube to watch if you're in to traction
Sema is the same year to year, if we'd done the same video your comment would be 'video is the same'. We do what we want to with the time we have and most people seem to enjoy it.
lol i actully like that call ^^ faith restored
epic green arrows dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :^)
Removing the plastic from such things definitely is the hardest part...I remember myself putting something together which was tubes powder coated and wrapped...I'm pretty sure I spent more time on removing the wrap then assembly.
"theres a freakin random cat"
Great episode. We've been waiting for stuff like this since the "how to turbo your car". GJ!
DAMN YOU MCM!!! I HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW :'(
Ariffnp5j98 thanks :)
Ehy m8, how yah doing. Whatcha up to nowadays
Brilliant as always, the only guys that can make me crack up laughing in the first 7 seconds of watching!
The cat is like... what are these noobs doing :D
Tortoise-Shell cats are usually the boss of the 'hood and have magical powers. They dngaf.
Random cat ftw
Maaaddddd like the mx5 but can't wait for the next cars and episodes
4:48 wtf, thats an almost 25 year old MX-5, and no rust. If that was in northern Europe where i live, it would look like a dogs dinner under that thing. I gotta get outta here!
Marty did repair some rust patches when he got the car, but you're right, it is soo clean compared to anything we can get over here.
But that's why Aus cars are so expensive
Jimmie Rustle
I live in Latvia and here cars cost same amout as in Aus but they are in at least 20 times worse shape. So I'd say this side of Europe car market is pretty fucked up.
Jimmie Rustle That doesn't have to do anything with Humidity of different countries, they're probably that expensive because of the import costs..
Oockeshoek
35% luxury import tax. then local car makers - Holden (GM) and Toyota put similar prices on there luxury vehicles to try and make a big profit
5:58 - "Maybe they zoom-zoomed back to the future" (silence) random cat walks in. So funny! :D
Dat cat doe.

I just disconnect the distributor from the coil ...
