Totally agree, Snail games is a terrible developer partly owned by Ten Cent that rarely makes deadlines and outright lies constantly. They kept Ark in EA for Years, then released it, now then hyped Ark 2 and did a reshade of Ark 1 that they reentered into EA for some reason and continue to delay Ark 2 in the meantime. They lied about its release and now cant even release a demo for Xbox. Thye are trash, Ark was a fun game but the company is terrible. Well, the concept art looks nice, but Snail Games doesn't have the most stellar reputation, and the survival sandbox genre is littered with conceptually beautiful failures. Hopefully it becomes a great game, but I'm not holding my breath for that. If the plan is to make it into an MMO with the usual online store BS, good luck but I'm out.
Sandbox MMO's: Breading the world's worst griefing and toxicity in a player base. Those three letters, MMO, make any title now dead on arrival and go straight to the ignore list.
I would hope the planets will be scaled large enough to where other players finding your bases would be like a needle in a haystack. Kind of like Elite.
I'll file this one under wake me up when it's out and reviewed Ant. Usual buzzwords, pre rendered nonsense and artwork, but something to speculate about lol.
The best play strategy for this game might be like the species in independence day where they do not have a home planet and just take what they want then move on. So i hope you will be able to make movable space stations. If they can not find you they can not hinder your progress.
The pre-rendered footage looks like a fantastic game. “MMO” is pretty much synonymous with, “watch your fun get ruined by griefers.” I hope Snail Games isn’t the kiss of death people make it out to be. That vegetation looks good…
x4 foundations, Space Engineers (though Space Engineers does not have a intricate economy, but its still as developed as the economy of the big name games)
Doubtful. ARK Survival has a singleplayer tag as well, but it's essentially akin to just playing offline. There are no NPCs. No branching quest lines. No non-player settlements. It's functionally singleplayer, but not designed for singleplayer. This will likely be similar, as it's a common characteristic of not just Snail Games, but "survival crafting" games in general. Easily one of the laziest genres as you basically don't have to do anything as a developer except throw a couple assets together. Players are left to do everything with it.
Didn't the devs of ARK recently get caught defrauding their entire playerbase? They released that pirate ships game as a stand-alone game and charged full price for it, and then the players were able to bug the UI into revealing that it was just a mod for ARK.
remember what KSP2 trailer looked like, non of that even started to be made before it was shut down. I have been burnt so so many times by games like this, that I will wait until at least 2-3 years after release to purchase
So it'll introduce a lot of interesting things at launch, but never finish any aspect of the game, much like everything ARK related...New maps, gear, etc before fleshing out story or legit content for years at a time then the devs will announce a new game...I want this to be good, but I've seen Snail's track record...
I'm a big fan of the concept of: "Space MMO" in all honesty. Wanting planetside avatars with combined arms (infantry, tank, air-support) and then jump to (not lightspeed) spaceside and continue the fun between "battle between the stars" with star-cruisers vaporizing amadas of ships and lasers blasting a light show upon the deep etc. Not really sure why this has not worked already? It's in the movies with Star Wars and others so surprised it's not been done to great scale in MMO focus? With that said, the ones that have attempted seem to have gone off the rails with scope-creep eg star citizen and dual universe and this developer has a reputation of churning out projects that are then thrown on the proverbial scrap-heap too quickly and moving on to a new project while the vision described also sounds more like an attempt to create a survival / mmo with space options to draw in that popular genre into a new theme-space. Still if it does generate popularity it can only be another eye-opener for the above concept one day materailizing? Afterall, Space is very very EMPTY which would indicate a need for players to fill in the missing gaps? Same issue with No Man's Sky which is vast but empty. Probably the same issue with out own universe hence the need for life to ascend to the stars one day in one form or another (probably silicon and AI and leaving organic life here in it's primordial soup). Ok imagination running into overdrive but gawd-dang it! Where's the Space MMO that has 1 Billion + concurrent players already?!
It doesn't work and will never work because griefing and toxicity are rewarded. You're also picturing large scale fleet battles as if you'd make it to the end. In most movies you see a pitched battle and you get to view the outcome. In a real scenario, you're likely to die quickly and sent back to respawn, not only to miss the battle, but have lost a massive amount of resources with the destruction of your ship or fleet. The eventuality is, there will never be large space battles or so few and far in between because it's far easier to offline raid and wipe to maintain the status quo. To stay on top as the "Alpha" of a server means that they will never let another clan threaten their position.
Starbase from frozenbyte has that tech genuinely working for years now, but the grind threw people of, but it is indeed working, reached more than 9000 players all in the same universe, more than 9000 players
