    Drill vents add sone screening and rats and bugs are not going to be a problem. Leaving the door open is only going to let them in.

      I understand where you are coming from,but we never had an issue with mice or rats now that might be due to the fact that we have 3 farm cats that room the homestead. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching.

    That's cool !! I got an old chest freezer in the barn...about the same size as yours. How many worms do ya need? I don't want to buy them at walmart for 4 dollars a dozen...Like to order a bunch and use them for bait too.

      I just started with one of the bait containers that you get at walmat

      We are not familiar with the weather up there, but you may have to add insulation.

    What was in the water you used for the soaking?

    • @bigbearhomestead
      @bigbearhomestead 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worm compost tea, it is made up from the runoff from the worms

    Do I have to add any additional drain holes to the bottom of the freezer or do I have to remove the freezer motor before I start using it or can I just cut the cord and tape up all the unused areas and use it like that?

    • @bigbearhomestead
      @bigbearhomestead ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We just went with the drain hole thst is in the freezer, as far as removing the motor that is up to you. We didn't and we didn't have any problems. Thanks for watching and we hope you hit that subscribe button.

      We have freezing temps in the winter. We had a freak night this past winter that was in the negatives! But that is very rare

    What did you soak that with? Worm tea?

    You might find that this is too deep, unless you make special arrangements to get oxygen down to the bottom.
    Better to have more surface area than you have depth, when it come to vermicomposting.

      You know that is a good point, we did end up putting tunes in there to help with the airflow. Might be time for an updated video. Thanks for watching. Hope you hit that subscribe button.
