If you read Chinese, you'll notice even more details that makes the execution of this game insane. Many of the locations are digital scans of actual places that you can still visit in China. The developers said they didn't access to any existing digital assets of such Chinese elements so everything had to be tirelessly researched and built from the ground up. For every created you kill, there are bios and legit Chinese poems written for them. This is just bonus details totally unrelated to the actual game play. I can just imagine the devs killed themselves making this game. It is a true work of love and passion for the source material.
Some more details you might missed. 1. Wukong killed himself to get rid of the headband, Erlang knows his plan and decided to play along to help him. Erlang can actually feel for Wukong, so they were making a show at the opening of the game. When Erlang giving out Wukong’s relics, he kept the 6th relic to himself, the most important one (Wukong’s Spirit and memory). Some celestial soldiers saw him secretly stashing something, Erlang made sure they stay silent forever. (in Erlang’s portraits). 2. The old monkey that guide us to gather all relics and revive Wukong is likely a Celestial God, they think Wukong’s spirit was lost, they want to find a young monkey to inherit Wukong’s powers, and also under their control, he said you are the 6th relic, more like he want you to be the mind of Wukong’s body. That’s why in the normal ending the old monkey would put Wukong’s golden lock on our head. But if we defeat Erlang first, Erlang would give us the real 6th relic (Wukong’s Spirit and memory) stashed in his third eye, so after defeating Wukong’s shell, just before the old monkey put the lock on our head, Wukong’s memory and rebellion spirit flashes back, we opened our eyes. 3. The Chapter 6 ending animation is highlights of the main JTTW story, but playing backwards. JTTW is a story of how a free monkey got tamed to obey to the Celestial Court. playing it backwards is us remembering back how he was the Great Sage, how he fights against the authorities. We now not only inherited Wukong’s powers, but also his rebellion spirit before the JTTW taken place. 4. When Fighting Erlang, he said he’s been testing us all along. The first two-phased boss in chapter 1, and the pig in chapter 2, the fire ring guy that lead us to the cave in chapter 3, and the bull champion in chapter 5 all mentioned they are under a task given by a ‘brother’. These characters are all leading or hinting us to secret areas in each chapter. 5. The monkey who led you to a Skandha in each chapter, she is the early teacher of Wukong and the general of Wukong’s monkey army. Wukong is born from a stone, and the Skandhas are essence of stones, she had a dream that if he collect all 5 Skandhas, he can bring back Wukong, that’s why whenever you see him, you can find a Skandha in different chapter. 6. The music of the ending animation is adapted from the opening song of 1986 Chinese TV series JTTW. Listening to the song brings so much nostalgia, I believe most Asians would break manly sweat from their eyes sockets like I do. What a great adaptation. PS: Sun is his last name, and Wukong is a concept in Buddhism meaning ”understand emptiness”(a very superficial translation)
in my own understanding...Erlang only kept and hid Wukong's memories..the Mind Relic was left on Mount Huaguo...The memories that we saw in the relic was incomplete because Erlang had Wukong's actual memories of his journey...This is what i think tho.....Basically what im saying is that Erlang didn't keep the 6th relic but only the contents of it which was wukong's memories
Based on this i hope the old monkey is the very first boss of the DLC. Somene also pointed out that the old monkey had the same garb style, the big circle thing, as the biggest guy during the intro fight.
the mad tiger backstory was fire asf, the writing for that was actual top tier, the wild thing is that it all makes sense, without that video i wouldnt know what the f was point in that quest, respect
Well Lingji, that headless Scottish was kinda hypocritical. He believed all beings are meant to be in some hierarchy though the buddha claims all born equal. Yellow Wind initially a hero-like yaoguai dicovered his master Lingji’s true color by all the punishment on the innocent. He became faithless and struggled to seize the real power, Wukong’s power
Adding to this, Wukong's death likely strengthened his fear that Yaoguais like him are all going to meet a miserable end regardless of their nature or qualities, even for someone that was given a Buddha title like Wukong. Thus fueled his rage against Lingji and by extension the whole system created by Buddha/the gods. His attempt to obtain Wukong's power was his last struggle against the system.
44:40 - 46:00 😄I knew *@AfroSenju* would love, or at least be impressed by the Mad-Tiger & co.'s sub-plot. I personally wished I could hear some sense of grief/tiredness/brokenness in Mad Tiger's English-dub (🙂no disrespect to George Weightman's voice-work).
As much as I want to see the final battle against Erlang & the final boss. Honestly Afro, I love this kind of video where you are reacting & learning the lore of every chapter. I don't mind to see the next chapter
To be honest I would like to see afro react to the lore in chapter 5 especially with Red Boy because in the novel that guy is crazy insane even beating Wukong in a battle lol. That whole story about the Bull Demon king and the Fan is so insane it escalated to a whole ass war.
the reason erlang transforms when you do in the fight, is because in lore wukong and him had a battle of transformations. Wukong turned into a bird and erlang into its predator followed by wukong turning into the preadator of that animal and so on.
Absolutely in favor of seeing you explore the backstory before resuming with the game. I don't mind waiting, JTTW is fascinating and I'm super intrigued to see everything the devs did with the story. I'm already subbed to bandit and will watch his vids on my own but I really wanna see what you take out of them (plus everyone's comments here giving further hindsight will be interesting to read)
the yellow wind sage was actually trying to help the people, he helped the people of the kingdom of the flowing sand, as well as the rock spirits of the yellow wind mountain. Buddha lingqi is the one that sent the beetle and turned the people into rat. He drove the yellow wind sage mad by telling him that yaoguai can never ascend no matter how much good they do.
i don't think stone vanguard or shigandang are the father and son of stone. These 2 are separate entities that we meet later on. Everything else was explained really well. I hope Afro continues this series instead of just ending it here. Yellowbrow is such a deep and interesting character.
Im so sorry dude but I can't watch anything past your "Yellow Looooooong" fight because I had got the game after and don't wanna spoil more for myself! I always love watching your videos after I beat a chapter to see if I missed anything or how you handled certain bosses. So far I'm on chapter 4 and used no summons on bosses to give it a more Elden Ring vibe. I wish you nothing but success! P.S make sure you have your IG Live off 😂
29:12 the other shigandang he's talking about is the giant shigandang from chapter 6. I'm pretty sure he made the video before progressing in the game, or maybe he just didn't discover all the secrets
The end of Mad Tiger's story said "Tiger brother carried the coffin back to the bottom of well. He decided to wait until he was strong enough. One day he would stop that curse wind and sand." He finally started to become the "Tiger God", even just a little bit.
fr dude had me thinking i was gonna watch him fight erlang then there's just this filler like brother you best believe my ass is going to sleep if im not getting any laughs outta this
After the fight with the Mad Tiger, you get the gourd in the coffin where the remains of the boy are, since the journal says that the he was wearing it around his neck.
One more detail. The reward treasure chest for defeating the Mad Tiger was a coffin. This coffin contains the body of a young boy. You can see him in photo mode.
