It's the lobbyists and corporations that control them that prevent them from listening. The power in this country has been shifting for decades, and so long as we remain divided against each other we'll never be able to correct the system. It's exactly what they want.

Especially regarding the strict border legislation that the exploiters continue to intentionally obstruct. @@rickykontaras3144 Special counsel Robert Hur is a Trump nomination who is hyper partisan against Biden that the justice department put on the Biden case just so that when he ultimately had to drop the case because of no evidence Trump supporters couldn't claim it was because he was biased.
He did have to drop the case, but because he was salty he editorialized comments about Biden being too old and then passed his report without the normal judicial review that would have removed such unprofessional, political jabs.

There's definitely a cut. If you watch the PBS live stream there is no cut, and at most it seems like a second wave of applause, maybe jokingly or ironic by Republicans, to him saying "If I were smart I'd go home now." It does kinda get loud quickly so maybe the live production ppl dumped it for a technical reason using their delay, like audio clipped or something. But you can clearly see in other sources there was nothing substantial cut.

This is not an exaggeration: my partner and I were only able to afford to buy our house because of the pause on federal student loans during covid. I had just graduated literally the year it started, got a raise and went full time at my job and we saved like crazy for the down payment.
Now that student loans have resumed, our spending power has dropped, leading to longer wait times before we can invest in our house and land. We don't mind paying back our student loans, but it does have ripple effects on the economy.
Perhaps you should budget better and/or lower your housing standards.
@@bewaryofleft1622 Maybe, that's definitely a possibility. But my current student loan payments are around $700 a month. My partner's payments are higher, since she went for a masters degree.
There is absolutely no way I could have bought *any* home on my income if I was also paying that amount. Same for her. Even together with the pause, it was still a lot of sacrifice and saving in order to make the house purchase happen.
Not as an excuse, but housing in our area is is insanely high within city limits, forcing us to buy outside of them. So it isn't as if we were trying to buy out of budget. We just wouldn't have been able to buy anything if there hadn't been the student loan payment pause. There's no way around that.

Cognitive dissonance erodes authenticity for people who still have a conscience.
I was feeling hopeful about this broadcast until I saw the Katie Britt video, which seemed to be a platform for her to endorse her party and to tell everyone how great and moral they are over other people. The anger and level of visible hate this woman has for The President is not only disturbing but has become the increasing sentiment among the republicans. During the speech, very few of them applauded to any of the president's points and their body language clearly conveyed that they do not care.
The Republican Party only care about the Republican Party They don’t care about the rest of the nation.
It isn't hate that the Republicans feel towards Democrats. It's deeper. It's loathing. Loathing is fare more dangerous.
Then again
The Democrats feel the same way about Republicans.
So, there we have it. A nation divided against itself.
@@n.m.h9679 This is the problem that arises when voter participation is not compulsory (such as in the US). When voting is compulsory (such as in Australia) the politicians are forced to pitch their policies at a large portion of the population who don’t have extreme views on issues. When voting is not compulsory the politicians are more likely get votes if their policies target the extremes, since the people in the middle are less likely to bother voting anyway. Hence you end up with parties representing the political extremes and people in the middle are forced to accept one extreme or the other. The result is a divided population with no middle ground.
Sadly the forefathers of the US did not account for this phenomenon.

I can't be the only American disgusted by the partisanship on display in this chamber. One side of the aisle stands up and applauds at every statement regardless of actual impact, and the other side sits and pouts with nary a clap even when objectively verified, positive achievements are mentioned.
Our government is beyond dysfunctional. The citizenry should be moving to dismiss both parties, post-haste. They have failed us.
It's this way because of how far right the Republican party has moved since the 80s. The GOP literally said their job was to make Obama fail and since then have had the mentality that any positive legislation passed while a Democrat is President is a loss for the GOP. It boarders on treason because they purposefully prevent legislation that is good for America just to try and demonize the other side. Hell the GOP of the Senate literally voted against HIS OWN BILL because Obama said he supported it. Both sides are not the same, the Democrats are at least open to bipartisan solutions.
The Republicans have been radicalized. Imagine twenty years ago Americans siding with a Russian invasion of another country, or distrusting the findings of the FBI, or NASA. This is what happens when you weaponize stupidity.

Well only one of the parties stands for democracy and free elections, so its no wonder they feel the need to show how strongly they support their president who is running for reelection against the insurrectionist who promised to take revenge against his enemies by being a dictator for one day if he gets elected.
