I really enjoyed this video. The only thing missing is the size of the bush at full growth for selecting it original location. I can get that info pretty easily though. I have subscribed to your channel. I am trying to change my landscape to more South Florida native plants to support my new hobby of beekeeping.
I love how excited you are about these plants I just moved to Florida and it is really a trip with all of these different plants of course I bought the bad type of lantana but I do think it's sterile luckily and the firebush still watching your video but I think I also have that yea kind of wish you were my neighbor
Oh my goodness...I thought this was a weed or invasive plant, since it keeps coming up in places it shouldn't...wow! I will see if I can replant them to a place of their own! Thanks for the helpful video!
Have a fire bush just got it a couple months ago. Looked at it this morning and its getting spots on it. Any way I can send you a picture of it? Thanks Becky
Statistically high odds that it will bounce back once it is warm. I have a neighbor who pruins their firebush to sticks and it always comes back. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you 😄

Hello, I just wanna ask if you've already made a video on how to propagate this plant? I actually had cuttings of this hut sadly only one of them lived. I just wanna know how to do it properly, propagation through cuttings. Thank you
Its a shame hamelia patens var patens is difficult to find. At least for me. It doesn't seem necessary for vendors to list this information. You would think they would want to, considering how saturated the market is with non native firebush.
Native nurseries will have the native variety. Pete Kanaris at Green Dreams ships many plants and he grows Firebush.... mostly the non-native type based on what he shows in his videos. Hope that helps! 😄
Hello WF, This is the second time I have watched your video on Firebush. I have checked several of my surrounding nurseries and they have none to sell so I ordered some seeds online and today receives them in the mail. They are incredibly tiny.. about the size of half a period at the end of this sentence. They came with instructions on how to plant and I have started 2 containers but will start several more for a better sprouting ratio. What is your advice on potting Firebush seeds and when are they large enough to transplant?
I put them a scratch below the surface... because, yes, they are small. Wet the soil before adding the seeds and then lightly dress with soil... and then mist them at first. They can be transplanted when they are 6 inches or taller. Bury them deep (like a tomato) because they can root along their stem.
As of this time I hate ‘firebush’ don’t know which one I bought, bush have been fighting it had attempting to kill this thing that has invaded everywhere, destroyed my neighbors pavers and seems unkillable. more than halfway through this video and still not learning anything except which Latin name I should have looked for when buying it.

Firebush is awesome. Always butterflies around and even saw hummingbirds on it. You can trim it into a small tree.
Yes! I know some people who have done this! It looks great as a small tree!

Mine has lost all its leaves since the cold snap last month.Im really hoping it comes back

How do you go about making it thicker?
Prune. Cut it back. It will fill in thicker than before. It can take a very hard prune

Where did you get your H.Patens x Patens ?? I can ONLY find either vague “H.Patens” or specifically other types of Patens? I’m in Lutz if that helps.

Yeah! As more of us learn about natives, I hope our purchasing power will influence the market and vendors to change to make natives more available!
