All of you do realize that it is the director of a show who directs the actor as to their motivation in playing a role…not the actor. If the performance is angry, the director asked for that and the actor delivered it. So if you don’t think it works, fine. But the very talented actress you are watching is doing a very fine job at what she was asked to do.
Is it me or does this song sound kinda sad. It reminds me of the end of the world. I feel like they would play this song at the end of the world. Someone? Anyone? Do any of you agree?
AlexanderDeLargeSir! The show takes place right before the Nazi's took power in Germany, so in a way it is the end of the world for a lot of people there.
I'm a fan of hers, but this is amazingly awful. (PS This isn't supposed to be an anger song! Her affect is totally bizarre...as though she were singing in a foreign language she didn't understand! VERY strange...) Also, I wish she would relax her interpretations a bit -- her rigid adherence to the melodic line is reminiscent of a classical singer performing pop, creating a stale and corny presentation that feels insincere.
It actually is supposed to be an "anger song". Literally moments before this song she has an abortion. This song is the juxtaposition of So many things. She just had an abortion, Nazi Germany is conquering, yet here she is... singing about life being ajoy. it is supposed to be angry. do your research my friend.
She is a woman who self sabotages her life and chooses hedonism knowing it will kill her ...but she can't help herself.. Sally has a death wish and consistently self destructs. Liza Minelli was too good for the role so you never really believe in the mediocre singer Sally is. In the Isherwood books she sings with a dark husky voice. She's not a star..she is deluded.
@@BlakeJAskewYes I heard that in another video.. they needed a good singer role so got Liza M - a great singer, but Sally is supposed to be a mediocre singer.
ANDREA MCARDLE SHE CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO LIZA MINNELLI ON THIS SONG OF CABARET LIZA HAD MORE ELECTRICITY SINGING THIS SONG LIKE IT WAS WRITTEN JUST FOR LIZA MINNELLI.
@@williamraveau6193 I LIKED ANDREA MCARDLE IN A SENSE BUT SHE IS NO LIZA MINNELLI SINGING THIS SONG THERE IS NO COMPARISON IM SORRY SHE NEED'S TO STICK WITH THE SONG TOMORROW FROM THE BROADWAY PLAY ANNIE BECAUSE THAT'S HER SIGNATURE SONG NOT CABARET SHE'S PATHETIC SINGING THIS SONG ENOUGH SAID.
Your opinion. Just because someone has a signature song doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate others versions. Andrea is undeniably talented and most love her.

I wish that I could have been in the audience during this performance. I'm impressed with her commitment to the role and her accent.
WOW...little Annie has grown up...fabulous and I would have loved to see her live..thanks for sharing

I am now convinced that there is not a part on Broadway that Andrea McArdle could NOT play!

She is the best.

@@williamraveau6193 100%! This is an incredibly dark show. Anger definitely fits with this song.

Liza may have "sang" it better. But this direction is miles better than Fosse's in the film.
