VIRUS Natz Hes not smart, i mean he is, but rather he actually speaks up, were all able to speak up like this, we just don't know it ourselves, because in reality, were all smart, we just have to find it, and let it out
amen. Suli's approach is twofold: peel back the different layers of societal facets aka oppression, and then diatribe against them in the vogue of youngsters (those sick rhymes have a purpose, guys). I have tears streaming down my face as I write this, because it seems like only Sulo and you guys really get what it's "all about"
***** sorry? so youre thesis is that this scholar (aka suli) isn't one of the "great minds" of our time?? sorry if i'm not "bowled over" by youre conjecture, but if you'd ask me whose the greatest poet of the last 100 years I probably wouldn't say "socrates" or "shakespeare," my money's on Jay-z and the Wu-tang clan, of which Suli is part of that tradition of. *drops microphone* #rantover
He can't be wrong. Everything he says is pretty much subjective, can be interpreted from multiple viewpoints. What he says isn't concrete, like 1 + 1 = 2.
***** im sorry but from what I've listened to ( not exactly sure what you listened to) most of he says in his poems are true and is subjective, if you cant understand the deep and thoughtful meaning behind his words then that's you choosing to be ignorant to the world outside of your safe and special bubble. but if one day you become aware of the world besides your own; you will see the chaos of today's modern times and for your sake i hope that day comes soon.
The backup plan 100% reminds me of my sister. Her passion is and has always been photography, and she's amazing- She won first prize in her very first photography competition against hundreds of adults when she was 15, and had her first wedding photography gig later that year. She started her own photography business at 16, and was very successful at first, until our parents pushed and pushed at her to put it on hold until she finished high school. Once high school was over they pushed at her to go to university, When she quit 6 months in to pursue photography full time, they practically disowned her, saying she would never be successful and should give up. She moved all the way to the UK from Australia just to get away from them, and now my parents constantly fight and talk about divorce, blaming my sister because she was the glue that held our family together.
Yup, we all have the family expectations horror stories... mine is basically a "my brother was the "perfect" child & I live in his shadow in the eyes of my mom, despite how much she tries to deny it" kinda thing. I have always danced to the beat of my own drum & my bother was always perfect at fitting in the mold. I argue that I'm more successful as a High School Junior than he is as a College Junior, I'm the one who solves family disputes, I'm the one who talks about philosophy & of business models & transactions, historical discussion & such as a fun time task; but only my dad who I rarely see & my uncle who I'm lucky to see once a year realize that I deserve at least equal respect to my brother. I've thought about running away for a while but realize the house would go to shit without me & I view it as a future investment when I some day inherit it, so gotta take care of it while I can.
My heart beat out of my chest showing my strict immagrant father this video. As he reluctantly watched, repeatedly looking up to listen to Wolf Blitzer on CNN and turning up the volume of the TV, his finger stroked his thigh which was a sign of annoyance I know well from childhood before a whipping. I was scared of showing him what I didn't have the guts to say myself. After the video, I broke the silence by explaining how being mad that I couldn't remember Franklin's birthday doesn't help me pursue a career as a surgeon. I was handed his dinner plate, and was told to warm it in the microwave. Some parents will always hide behind ignorance no matter what.
+Ashley Terer hey if i can ask, where is your dad from? because my parents act the same way and they're haitian. Nowadays since i been telling them the facts of it life itself, they been more open minded to the idea of listening to what i have to say at least, but before they didnt want to hear anything they werent ready for
+Ivan Sessions My parents are Kenyan. I think its the whole idea of having better opportunities and etc. that makes them SOO difficult, but I hope by some miracle he'll be more open minded like your parents with time. The worst part is waiting
+Ashley Terer OMG my mother is exactly like that and she is from Ivory coast. She tell me that its beacause we are born in france and have easy life thats why we cant afford making effort for having a good diploma.
+juste kevin (AniManga BIZ) My mom tells me the "better opportunities" speech tout les temps! I'm going to study abroad next year in France for a month and will live with another family there. At least I'll get a break for a few weeks :) J'aime anime aussi XD
And the worst part is that no matter how TRUE this is, ALL the parents will simply ignore it and just keep pretenting they're perfect and have always been and everything WE do that isn't exactly how they want it is wrong
This video chokes me up everytime I watch it. I am 16 and love words, I write storys, poems, raps, and emersive myself in it. And instead of my mom getting behind me and helping me, she just says 'yeah right, youll be screwed in real life'. I really wish I had a parent to at least understand me, or at least be interested in what Im working towards. Instead, she smokes, and plays candy crush on her phone all day, the second one more of an addiction then her first. It disgusts me, my dad was abusive, and my mom just neglects me. Who am I supposed to turn to? My mom has a mental condition, and never gets out of the house, and because of that I feel like an introvert, and I remember when I was 7, everyday, I would ask if we were going somewhere, because I loved going places, but now, I just feel like a product from a long line of shit. I dont know anymore really, I feel like the whole world is against me, what can i do without family. I guess Ill continue to carry on by myself, and spend more and more hours in my room alone working on lines, and ideas, and versus. And I love when I do that. But i still feel an emptyness. Fuck.
Sounds to me, Ian, that your 'mother' is projecting herself and her failed dreams onto you. You're clearly going to succeed where she failed if you fight hard enough for it.
My parents couldn't care less about my goals and aspirations in life or any of my achievements unless the house is sparkling clean. I understand that cleanliness is important and something you need when you're older, but after 8 hours of school and another 5-6 hours of homework, would anyone feel like scrubbing the kitchen floor? I have the rest of my life to fold clothes and wash dishes, but only 4 years to show that I'm "good enough" for colleges. A shirt on the floor or an empty water bottle on my desk won't matter when I'm laying in my grave. On my death bed I'm not going to be thinking about how proud I am for having a squeaky clean home, I'm going to be thinking about how proud I am for working hard and achieving my goals. I wish my parents could just understand for once...
totally agree. a huge inspiration. I wish youtubers like him would be exposed to the public and shown around the world more like the ones doing comedy skits etc.
when he said, "but ultimately, we just want you to believe in us" I broke down crying, because it was exactly how I felt. My parents are always telling me, "don't go to a music school, what are you going to do with a degree like that? go in to the medical field instead, become a lawyer, become this and that." yeah, the music industry is a hard place to be but I would rather struggle to get where I want to be than working in an office, or taking a college course I have no interest in. and still my parents say, "get a job that you love" how can I get a job that I love when you say that I shouldn't enter that field/industry? parents say things that seem to not make sense in my eyes. if only they could sit down at the table with me and have a talk on how we can get me to where I want to be.
All the people in my family are smart ,I'm the one who sucks at school. my parents compare me to my cousins who have better grades than me and that just pisses me off
Here's the thing. My dad is always putting me down. He has supported me financially. I can't complain about that. I can't say he's been a bad father, because that's not true, either. I get that my dad wants what's best for me, so he doesn't let me dream. He doesn't believe in me. He says he does, but I know that's not true. He always compares me with other people, and all he cares about is how good I do in school, which I'm terrible at. I hate that he does that. I'm not like everyone else! I get that he's just wants what's best for me, but maybe he's wrong. Maybe he's right and I'm wrong. This time, though, I think I'm right.
True i have a similar problem. My mom hates everything i do i like lots of thing and my mom hates every single one of them she expects me to be perfect she wants me to play the songs she wants the piano she wants me to be a little her but im a different person than her and im a dude it really pisses me off my dad is the only one thats really nice to me. Im homeschooled and i like it only because I have friends in a homeschooling group but if I don't do good in something i get yelled at and grounded but im tired of it. I considered suicide many times but im only kept alive by a crush (not telling) and a few friends. I want to show this to my mom but she would just yell at me for thinking less of her
Everyone here needs to use the Law of Attraction. It's shown in 'The Alchemist' the book Suli read. It's basically, if something is real then you can get it. If you want some kicks at the mall, it's not like they aren't real and they don't exist. It's not like your not able to get them. You can make anything you want reality. You don't have the shoes yet, but it doesn't mean they don't exist, they are at the mall, you just don't have em yet. But you gotta do everything you can to get them. Same thing with your dreams. Why not say you want to be the best in the world at what you do. Like I wanna be the Greatest film maker of ALL time. People are gonna laugh at your dreams, but your gonna be the one laughing when your at the top. Reach your dreams. The sky is not the limit, especially when there's footprints on the moon.
I'm about to fail my math class, and when I confronted my parents asking about a "Backup Plan", they ignored me and said that "You will pass the exam". Like they know that I won't fail. I play music and love to draw, sing, dance and speak. It's a shame that, just because of our society, they'll have to pay for something that I'm not meant for. Peace.
You sir are an indisputable genius the way you logically break down the solution instead of yelling the loudest shows you of exceptional intelligence far greater than the average person, you truly are an inspiration to all those who can't speak for themselves and for that you have my ultimate respect.
I'll always support my daughter in her dreams! I'm investing in her financial well being while she's still in diapers. I'll make sure she never knows what's it was like for me struggling on my own I'll never tell her she shouldn't follow her dream if she wants to be a dancer I'll attend every recital and competition. a singer, the same if she wants to be an architect I'll have the money to send her to school I'm going to make sure the world is at her feet but I'll also teach her respect and poise for those around her.
How are you able to come up with such strong, brilliant, and profound words. Isn't it hard performing your own work on TH-cam in front of millions a people. Have you ever been criticized for speaking the truth.
Graciah Augustine Then you are the problem that inspired this song. A close minded adult who thinks they walk on water while watching their children drown because you believe that because you had to learn to swim, that they will too. Open your eyes mate, this song has more truth than you want to admit.
Im simply speaking the truth, THAT is what this song is about. Parents who think they know it all. By saying this is false is doing exactly what the song is talking about. Calling someone on their bullshit isnt judging.
Top of the class in everything, smarter than people older than me... People that try, that study. Im not one of them, I never do homework, but Im bright. So when I was sat at parents evening, and the teacher told my mum that "Im cheeky, talk alot and is hyperactive" I couldnt believe it. When I got home, my Mum didnt bother reading my grades, she just shouted at me for what seemed like an eternity... I told her that I didnt want to do anything with my life, and wanted to be an author. She told me that she expected more from me... Parents really are the hardest people to please.
***** Yea, I think quite a few parents need to talk to their kids about what they want to do with their lives (or at the very least become active in what they want to learn), including mine. I don't know what I want to be but all I know is that I want a career and not a J.O.B. It boggled my mind when I once heard my mother say that she'd rather have more money than to be happy because i'd rather go for the happiness than the money, I don't want a lot but just enough to get by in life. Then I hear my family rags on my brother about all the decisions he's made on his own about education (he went to become a dentist then quit and started worked towards a criminal justice degree and is now working security) only for them to realize that they never had to make those decisions when they were young. Then they look at me because out of the 3 sons they had, i'm the "educated" one. I'm the one that got the best scores (to which they never even once glanced at), knew the most historical facts (most of which are lost on them), and always got my work done on time. What they fail to realize is that I only did my work because I wanted to play my video games longer or that I wanted to watch a movie when I got home. They think that i'm going to be the one to make the most money when in reality... I may want to become an author or maybe a pianist, or perhaps something with coding or sewing. I don't know... it's hard to understand what I want to do and even worse to think what my parents will say. That's the kicker isn't it, "What will my parents will say?" the fact that most kids become afraid to speak their mind around their parents because it will most likely turn into the same thing: "Don't be ridiculous, aim for something realistic." yet they tell us to follow our dreams, heh... parents are sometimes hard to please. I don't know what my parents will say but all I know is that i'll continue on to find that one thing I love and continue working towards it. Whether my parents yell, disown, or become disappointed in me; i'll keep working towards my dream once I find it because at this point it's the one thing I want to find the most.
Suli Breaks, you are speaking everything I have been saying for my whole teenage life and I salute you sir cause you are a star simply because you are being listened to.... Everyone iv shown your videos too have agreed that you are right in all that you say and find it strange how even though with all your publicity through youtube, social media and the news that nothing has yet happend to the system that we are all ment to use to tell us who we are and what we can or can't do and that our dreams are too stupid or unrealistic?? You said in a talk you did that at the beginning you wanted to be a superhero... with everything you have done I would say you have become a superhero and are on your way to becoming a prophet or a phillosipher....along with the greats. Live Life and Embrace Death, Peace.
If I ever talk to my parent about what I want to be, I receive angry reticule about how much of a loser I am to do it or they laugh at me straight to my face. My parent's straight up want me to be what they couldn't and since I won't I am a loser that doesn't need any attention because, I won't be them.
MrQizro While I agree on you that I wouldn't quit school over games, don't go cyber bullying something he likes to do. Honestly, if that is his calling and his future lifestyle then so be it. We all want to be happy in our life and find a meaning to it. You and I may not see that lifestyle worth it or appealing but that doesn't mean it couldn't be that for others.
My parents only cared for the results and did not care what I wanted, they only cared what they wanted and they wanted that I can cope with the world and now I have moved and look what happened, I'm OK. Many parent's tend to see themselves in us and they tend to " teach us " that you need to study as your only thing in your life before you got to work. Studying is important of course but you can do just fine as long as you study enough and don't let anything interrupt the concept of enough-studying-for-you. Now I will tell you a truth about this, I'm currently studying psychology in a university and the truth is that parents tend to try to fulfill their hopes and dreams they were never able to fulfill themselves but you have to make them realize that they need to respect you and your dreams instead of trying to make you their dream as that will never lead anyone to anything good. I hope strengths to you and hopefully one day your parents will also learn what they are trying to accomplish only hurts you.
IF NOBODY HAVE FAITH IN YOU, HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF PEOPLE ! I know it's hard, but it will worth it when you'll show EVERYBODY wrong. Have faith in yourself. Whoever you are, I do believe that you can achieve great things. You should start believing that too.
Showed this poem to my mother who accused me of having a video game addiction when really I play games less than 2 hours a day, and it did nothing. She even continuously brings up my shortcomings when I earned a GPA of a 4.2. I told her I wanted to be a doctor like her, but secretly I want to be a TH-cam commentator, but she refuses to acknowledge that.
I believe we all have different fields in which we could excel on. Pursue your dreams bro. Not for the sake of economic survival but for freedom in Spirit. God bless!
When i was younger i played with Photoshop, Indesign and, at the time Corel Draw. I was very good at it but was always encouraged by my parents to go out and "socialise" with kids my age. At the age of 17 I was lucky enough to be accepted for a Graphic Design apprenticeship with my local council. I am now 23 and am the head Graphic Designer for a large print company in Scotland and help train our junior Graphic Designers. Nothing is impossible.
Matthew Watters Dude, I love Graphic Designing! Though the farthest I've gotten is Power Point and GIMP. I have been playing with art since I was little. I have designed stuff for the kids church at my local church when I was younger and entered into a national competition 3 out of 4 times. You don't realize how much I'd love to be you lol XD
I am only 15, and I suffer from panic attacks because I believe I have no life ahead of me. I get bad grades, I get yelled at. I get good grades, I get told to improve. Nothing is ever good enough and nothing will ever be enough until I'm the best. But I can't be the best. It is true that our parents are hypocrites, they have gone out with people they shouldn't, gotten drunk and dropped out of high school. But I ever consider doing the same or I start to loose hope in an impossible goal that keeps running away from me, I am the one to blame. Not the people, the schools and the parents that set impossible standards for me. I can be better, but I could be worse. I try my hardest and have my own hobbies. I want to do what I want to do with my life, how do you know that I won't be successful at it? Even though I don't have my whole life sorted out right now, doesn't mean you should lose all hope in me.
You do have a life ahead of you! Don't let your parents or anyone discourage you from achieving your goals and being all that you can be. I understand how you feel about your parents being hard on you about your grades...maybe you can try to sit them down and express your feelings to them or you can go to an adult that you trust and see if they can talk to your parents for you. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE! Don't EVER think that for a second! You can be successful in your life...you keep putting in the hard work and be confident. For your panic attacks, I suggest that you pray to God and ask Him to help you to relieve these feelings so you can accomplish the tasks in your life and ask Him to touch your parents hearts. I always find it helpful to talk to God and I know you'll find this helpful as well! It's a shame that some parents are just too hard on their children...but don't let them take away your joy Jasmine! I believe you can overcome your panic attacks and be all that you can be! I am keeping you in my prayers ok? :) If you need some advice or just someone to talk to, please do not hesitate to leave a comment under the "Discussions" tab on my page. I *don't do* the personal message thing on here, but if you leave a comment, I will get back with you as soon as possible! God bless you and stay strong girl! You can do it, I know you can! Don't let any negativity tear you down, try to keep a positive attitude! I hope this message was helpful to you! :) Sincerely, PW-08
Thank you. That was enlightening, illuminating and made me remember how I felt 30 years ago. As a parent I'm always trying to do my best, to love and nurture and I get it wrong a lot of times. I think the hardest thing to do is stepping back and remembering that your child is learning everyday and it's not about when I'm ready to give support, it's when they are ready to receive it that counts. Congratulations, you got through to at least one oldie.
I shed a few tears while watching this.. mainly because, i was wondering how to show it to my parents without offending them ..sigh. This video is accurate!
I am 25 and I pretty much gave up looking for my immediate family trying to support me because quite frankly none of them even care. My mother and her hubby gloat about my sisters being something within the educational and pet industry respectively meanwhile I been trying since I was 18 to get into wrestling. Since I told my mother of my dreams of getting into wrestling because I love the interaction the wrestler give their fans, the way the wrestlers control their own lives, and how they can either sign with one company or be freelance. My family don't even attempt to learn about how people can make money then the standard way because they always come back with "how do you know if you would make it" and "that's them, not you" yet when I turn around and asked them "how do you know how much heart I have" with no reply because while they are catering to themselves, not one of them even take my interest, my hobby, my life into the family life yet they grow around family like it's love. Yes I am 25 years living with my family because the location I live doesn't have the best prices for rental home/apartments and I never took time from work to go do this and that because I like to receive a bonus in my check that goes to buying my bills. I await the insults.
Its a hard business to get into. But anything worth getting into isnt going to be easy. Don't end up like everyone else. Stand your ground and make your dream happen because at the end of the day they will have to watch you having fun and a good career while they are stuck in a boring job. Good luck :)
Hey man! Don't give up. I'm still only 12 and I'm not familiar with the wrestling industry. But I'm guessing it's like the kickboxing industry which I am knowledgable about. Basically I started kickboxing at the age of 5. I never thought I would succeed but now after 7 years of hard work I am a National Champion in Ireland and My instructor got a call yesterday from the head of Irish kickboxing asking for me to fight in three more National competitions in April which will lead me to European Championships then World Championships! So don't give up! Hopefully I have helped you out.
I do really well in school (I know, poor me right?) but all I wanna do in life is dance. My mom's always like 'I support you, but you need to go to college and major in something else and maybe minor in dance. You need a backup plan and are too smart to ruin your life if dance doesn't work.' It gets to the point where I want to cry because she says she won't help pay for me to go to college if all I'm gonna do is major in dance. So really I'm just hoping that I'll be able to get a really good scholarship.
work your ass off, make use of those kickass grades and get that scholarship! If your mom doesn't support you, prove her wrong. Trust me i know what it feels like not to have the faith of a parent in your academics/passion but don't let it stop you from achieving your dream.
from year 7-9 we do dance, performing arts, design technology drama music ect and if we want to continue doing that until year 11 we can. and then after that if we want to continue it in year 12 and 13 we can. and then university.
My favorite with "doing well" is that the teachers say is good but they just use "top set" as an excuse to push you and moan if you dont get an A. Like i understand im semi smart but dont make my life difficult ith that as an excuse!
I'm so sick and tired of my parents giving me OPTIONS of what to do with my life its either DOCTOR, NURSE,OR LAWYER! *I DON'T WANT TO DO ANY OF THOSE THINGS* I REFUSE to let my parents way me down because @ the end of the damn day THEY WILL BE DEAD and I will be stuck with the DAMN JOB!!!
Lowkey ITS TRUE THO and I'm going to end up hating it for the rest of my life. I asked my parents what they wanted to be when they were little and they told me something completely DIFFERENT from what they are now and it BAFFLES ME because they're always teaching us to follow our hearts but at the end of the day they always want to make decisions for us that are not theirs to make. They act like their so interested in our lives BUT are always trying to change us they make their plans our plans and our plans a *BACK UP PLAN* THAT WE ALL KNOW FOR SURE WILL NEVER HAPPEN. I understand not all parents do this BUT IT GETS ANNOYING because my mom will ask me what I want to be now and I would simply DODGE the question because it brings A LOT OF ARGUMENTS!! & CONFRONTATION AND ARGUMENTS DON'T MIX *But thanks for the compliment :)*
naturalforme I understand where you're coming from. Now, I don't suffer from the same problem (parents deciding my major), however my parents aren't supportive when it comes to other random stuff. It pisses me off because they forget that they were once in our age and they don't keep up with society's updates (they still expect me to act like they did when they were my age). You're welcome :)
I know exactly how you feel! My mom says the same thing! I don't know what I want to be yet and she's forcing this stuff on my and I'm just like omg let me be who I wanna be
Lowkey EXACTLY!! I'm like MA this is a new age and time we are not back in 1963!! This is 2015 LETS GROWWW TF UP and accept change. I personally think my MOMMY DEAREST is a control freak its either her way or nothing at all. I wan't something of my own! u know something to call MINE! sure imma need advice once in a while BUT DON'T FORCE UR OPINION ON ME becauseee at the end of the day I WILL BE THE ONE TO MAKE THAT DECISON *NOT U* I think the sooner parents accept this the BETTER for all of us.
I first saw this when I was in High school grade 9. Now I am working, had to revisit it for the nostalgia 🙂. It's crazy to think that this video is 8yrs old. Surely, time does fly.
Free Kingk It shows that the parents don't actually believe in their child. They're hoping they will change their mind and do their backup plan instead.
showed my parents this... well they said "WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE WE DON'T RAISE YOU RIGHT, WHERE PERFECT PARENTS SO DON'T TREAT US LIKE WHERE NOT, STOP TRYING TO FIND REASONS TO NOT DO YOUR HOMEWORK" .... Parents Won't ever change Suli, But thank you for making this video, because now everytime my mom and dad tell me to get an A Tomorrow or no Xbox, Or WHY CANT YOU BE LIKE YOUR SISTER, i can always just watch this to help ease the pain.
Man this guy, his words just hit me like a shotgun blast. I'm in the same position with my father and he only wants me to follow in his footsteps and work with him in the mines good money just not the work aspect I am interested in I know he is trying to help me because he didn't have anyone to teach him when he was younger and I understand that he is doing what he thinks is best and thats the problem I feel he's doing what he thinks is best and all I want to do is see the world and be a bartender on a cruise ship and just earn piss ass money just to see the world.
Your story is motivational. Most people who watch this video don't understand what its trying to put out. You however do. Don't push yourself into zombification over books you'll never need just so you can get a piece of paper from your teacher saying "you matter". although don't just stop trying. Go for what your passionate for and only that. Don;t let anyone tell you you can't.
My mum is very good at this. Occasionally she questions my dreams (like being a TH-camr) with questions like "are you sure?" and "what if you won't like it?" but never forgets to add that she supports me in every way. My dad? Not so much.... he wants me to be a vet so bad; he's been hinting for several years now but my mum is teaching him slowly how to be supportive and trusting.
Being a father of a 3 (soon to be 4) year old little girl....this is exactly what i want for her. The freedom to do what she wants and be who she is. This punched me in the chest harder than anything I've seen on TH-cam so far. I grew up military, so the holier than thou mentality were instilled in my parents. Nothing was ever good enough. No matter what I enjoyed doing....it was just a "HOBBY". You need a fallback plan, thus creating doubt in my mind and deterring me from what I loved.
Ahh the back up plan... i know that all too well.... even my teachers and parents want me to have a plan b and c and even d :T bro if im going for plan a ... why do i even need the rest??
Why do you need a backup plan? I think Bruce Lee said it best; "A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at." Just because you end up at plan b does not mean you have to give up on plan a. You can always work towards your dreams; however, they don't always happen in the time you expect. It would be smart to have something to fall back on.
J-Eazy Capone Same I depend on them too......which kinda sucks I want to try to stand on my own two feet. Cuz if I don't do well I'll have to work hard labour in my family business for the rest of my life. Which I don't want to work in the family business to begin with.
I've showed this to my parents multiple times and after the watch it they agree with what Suli says, then a few days later there gone back to the way the used to be. Suli will be a great father some day.
My parents don't believe in me, with what I want to do, and they just talk through this entire video. You're really lucky, that they agree, even for a few days. At least they tried.
I've always wanted to be a soccer player i spent all the afternoons practicing but never been in a soccer team yet i write pages and pages to get my school to get soccer yet get nowhere and have always asked since i was little
I hope one day u make it into your favourite football team. Don't stop trying, practice by yourself if you have to have faith you can do it. One day I'll be watching a game between Barcelona FC and Real Madrid and in 100% sure your name will come up in the highlights.
You have inspired me Suli. And now I'm going to inspire people. Because they did once walk in our shoes. They did once say the things we say. I think we should all take a stand like you Suli.
I've been saying exactly these things to my mother, but she still doesn't understand me. She never forgot that one time I ditched school, while I know she used to do it all the time when she was my age. She never forgot the one time I got a B instead of an A. She never forgets anything. She's never once taken my dreams seriosuly, laughing off my dream to be an artist and telling me it's not a proper job. She doesn't know my interests, hobbies, nothing. And the only time she'll acknowledge my efforts to please her is if I bring back a report card with perfect marks. She doesn't know how long I spend studying and she doesn't know how much sleep I've lost while leaning over my pile of books, fitfully memorizing pages and pages of textbooks and notes while sobbing quietly and pinching myself to stay awake while my body was shutting down. And still, all she cares about is that stupid report card. Every time I get less than 90% on a test, I feel like a failure. Like I'm worthless. She pretends to be fine with the 88 or 79% I got when my head pounded so much that I couldn't even open my eyes anymore, but there as disappointment in her eyes every time. On parents' night, she'd be in and out of the rooms, beaming that the teachers praised me, but if any one of them had a single complaint, I could see it on her face. I'd hang my head in shame and let her shout at me when we'd get home. In the end, I'll never be good enough for my mother no matter what I do and how hard I try.
I Like Tae With Suga Kookies I know how you feel but I think it's time you shouted at your parents and force them to listen, I want to be an animator but my parents think it's a waste of time, I had to turn off the TV or steal my dad's laptop for them to finally understand that I don't need 100% on everything and that I can choose whatever I want, it'll take a while but you need to be assertive with them like I was, now they listen to me a bit more, granted my mom still thinks I'm dumb but my dad's a bit more supportive, just try to get their attention, I tried it and it worked(and I have Asian parents who are strict beyond anything! )
Suli, I really hope you understand how amazing and wise your words are to the general youth. Your spoken word has given me the strength and power to talk to my parents about my education and dreams. It's too often that parents give the excuse of their children being wrong when in fact truth was be separated from fact. Thanks Suli, for everything.
My dad always says that I spend too much time on my xbox or my computer. He tells me that I should be doing something else, what he doesn't know is that its what I want to do for a living. I stay up all night making music and videos. I don't think he would approve, but its so hard to say. "this is what I want to do, let me". He expects so much from me, and Its hard to say no. If only he could see Suli's videos.
I have just heard most of what you have shared with our world and i believe you have made the largest impact on the way I am thinking ever. Thanks Sulli!
Most parents do not want what is best for you; but what is good for you. They want you to take the easy, safe route; one without risks (because this is most likely what they did). The simple fact of life is that you will not be fulfilled or achieve your dreams without risk. With risk and hard work comes reward.
I don't get why a senseless video in a language that most of us don't even understand has 1 and a half billion views but a video that has been so well spoken has only 100 thousand views while he deserves that everyone in this planet will watch and learn from you, Dude you're amazing, you opened my mind, you inspired me and i admire you . Peace .
Man I tried to get my mom to see this so she can understand how us kids feel when they do the things parents do. Sadly she never listened to it. I hate my school and I've asked her more than once to take me out and she says "No you gotta do what you've been told to do here before you can go anywhere else" so it sucks knowing that your mother barely graduated high school and didn't complete college but always say you're wrong I know this and that. :/
I know more about programs like photoshop, cinema4D , sony vegas and editing video, my way around the files on my computer, and loads more about those kind of programs and tech. Than my mom. She thinks that that stuff like doing video-games and doing TH-cam will get me no where in life. I think the only reason she tells me this us because its not what she did, she says that if i want to get a good job i have to graduate and go to go to collage. The thing is, i have already been paid for my views on youtube. It was only a couple bucks but hey I'm a small youtube and I'm growing. She gets mad whenever my grades drop but I'm always on the computer. When ever i get on the computer i go on photoshop or maybe record a video and edit it. I have taught my self how to edit video, do really nice banners and images in photoshop. She still has trouble even getting the volume to work properly on the computer. I realize I'm ranting but oh well. It feels good to post this. Reply if your parents don't totally care for what you want to do with YOUR life.
Kid with dreams of being a mangaka. I want to go to a manga collage in Japan. You may all just say in one of those 'weeaboo' or 'otaku' kids but I'm really going to do it. But naturally they don't support me at all. "Have a backup plan." "Get rich first before you try to achieve your dream." "Don't be like us get lots of money so your not poor" I don't care. I don't want money I want my manga in a Japanese magazine. If there still around then... I hear the industry's not doing so good. I wonder if I show them this video they'll understand. But my dad's a gamer and I know exactly what he'll say when he hears Psss3... He won't take it seriously...
Every time you speak you make sense! I wish i had heard what you say when i was younger. There needs to be more people like you that speak so clearly and and understand the importance of children and well pretty much most things. Nothing short of inspirational, well done. Thank you
I play a lot of video games but my family always tells me that games will not get you anywhere but yet they're the ones that are in a dead and every time i get my grades and they see a 70 or a 60 and they say they did better in school and they had better grades but yet they are the ones working for other people working for 8.50 an hour and i ask where did they're knowledge go??
They just want the best for you. Lots of video games is not good for you. Yes there are a handful of people on TH-cam who get paid a lot of money. But they didn't try to do it as a career or get paid when they started. It was a hobby and it didn't consume there lifes. After 6-8 years they have 5+ million subcribers. You have to be realistic about it. But that doesn't mean you can't do your own thing. You can make your business, or go to a college specified for game devolpment. But gaming channels on TH-cam take a whole lot more than $500 worth of tech and equipment and a $1500 gaming computer and some videos on a game that all the big you tubers already have 50 videos on.
Isac Castorena honestly, count all of the famous youtubers who made it with video games, compare that number to the amount of people in the world, that fact alone, is a highly improbable ratio, where as becoming a doctor is far more common, or being a lawyer, or even being employed in a fast food restaurant. all im trying to say, is if you can become successful in the first 3 months of gaming, then continue, if not. well.. give up. find a new hobby that you can be successful with, and make that your job.
+Its Nova 新星 it's not so easy to say it to your parents with as much confidence and timing. and stuttering through a sentence makes it far less effective
Suli, You have inspired me. I saw your video "I will not let an exam decide our fate," and it got me in tears. It just made sense, and i watch another one, and another one, and agree with every one of them. When I first saw your video, I was just about to give up, because there was no-one out there who understood and could explain it. So thank you, because you got me to think and work harder and when i see a new video I stop and watch it. Your amazing
This just shows that parents have something to learn from kids. No. Rather more so RELEARN. They need to relearn humility and respect. Parents are more than likely to tell you that because it's their house, it's the my way or the highway. But guess what. They're going to be disresprectful enough to walk into YOUR house when you get one and automatically think they are born with that right to claim it as theirs more so than yours. Just like with you living in theirs, you are the one who GIVES them rights in your house. They don't magically walk in and have the right to put their feet on your footrests without your spoken or unspoken permission. It's your way or the highway when you get older. They lose that right when they lose you out of the house. And they need to learn that and respect that. Or you might have to lay some hands on some arrogant parents who think they have the right to lay their hands on you for telling them no they cannot put their feet on the footrest without a shower. Re-Teaching them these basic yet absolutely neccessary things is how you honor your parents. Not by worshiping them and trying to pedestal them as the gods of your life. So what if your dad threaten to belt your bum ass when you were a kid? It wasn't because he was dada. It was because it was his house. He doesn't have the right to your worship. He has the right to a certain amount of respects until you move out. Then he loses all rights pertaining to you until you choose in your heart to give them back. You want to honor them? Remember that they're your parents. But remember that they aren't perfect and CAN be disrespectful pricks.
+lego man It's good that you have an idea of what you want to do! Don't take this the wrong way, but statistically you are likely to fail. HOWEVER. All the popular gaming TH-camrs have some things in common. They know how to talk to an audience. Practice speaking and increase your charisma. Then one day you may very well make it dude. I'm 16 and just a few years ago I wanted to do the same thing, but I have changed and now I'm getting into software design. The reason I'm telling this to you is so you know that if one day your goal doesn't work out, maybe it can evolve into another interest. (My ultimate goal is to make a humanoid robot, just the skeleton though, I want to see those motors turn!)
Then you better be a bloody good gamer, cause from experience, passion can only get you a certain distance, being very good at whatever you do helps you go that extra mile
I wish you had been born when I needed your words... Unfortunately, they've come to me 25 years too late... BUT I SPREAD YOUR WORDS TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO WILL LISTEN!!
the thing with my mother is that she tells me to do stuff and i listen but then when i want to say something she doesnt listen and just doesnt care i think as myself as a girl who has a sewn up mouth i cant speak my mind i hate that if i say what i think she justs says you must be kidding the lady who tells me to say whats on your mind to you to the top doesn't let me speak my mind in my own house. it unfair
As a parent of a 17 year old, this was enlightening. I struggle with him trying to find his path. I feel the need to try to help him find a path and then find the courage to follow it. I have always known my role as a parent was to raise him with a thinking mind and open eyes.
I have a dream that I want so bad that I cry for. My parents are strict and "I want you to get all A* and want you to go to university" but what I want to do in life doesn't need university but it's not easy either. I haven't told them my dream because I know for a fact it will cause problems and they won't believe in me. They always tell me that I can be whatever I want to be in life but I started hearing about how apparently all parents say that but they don't mean it. As soon as you're like "alright, I want to be a _____" they'll be like "oh no you can't be that". I get it now. I'm preparing my self I've been preparing it since I was little how I will "come out" to my parents about how I'll live my life, what type of person I am what I believe in and I know it won't be easy because they are ignorant and break me down. I certain I won't get to where I need to be without tears.
You caused me to start turning my feelings and thoughts into poetry. This one right here hit one for me you may be thousands of miles a way but you have touched my soul. Thank you!
I dreamt to be a police, and that was the only career I want to get in. Police officers are always targeted by the public whenever the topics like corruption arrived. But that's not true, not every police officers are corrupt. They serve community even in night, so as we all can sleep safely. I think that's the wonderful career path to walk on.
"It's like chasing a dream with coach that has no faith in the team" i almost cried. God damn it, it's true.
Why is this guy so smart?
Because he went to school... Is what a parent would say xD
He's passionate about it
Unlimited Gamer He's not smart, he's educated.
VIRUS Natz Hes not smart, i mean he is, but rather he actually speaks up, were all able to speak up like this, we just don't know it ourselves, because in reality, were all smart, we just have to find it, and let it out
kevin yang truth!
I love sulli, he isn't afraid to break the mold and go against society. Which is exactly what the world needs.
amen. Suli's approach is twofold: peel back the different layers of societal facets aka oppression, and then diatribe against them in the vogue of youngsters (those sick rhymes have a purpose, guys). I have tears streaming down my face as I write this, because it seems like only Sulo and you guys really get what it's "all about"
*****
sorry? so youre thesis is that this scholar (aka suli) isn't one of the "great minds" of our time?? sorry if i'm not "bowled over" by youre conjecture, but if you'd ask me whose the greatest poet of the last 100 years I probably wouldn't say "socrates" or "shakespeare," my money's on Jay-z and the Wu-tang clan, of which Suli is part of that tradition of.
If i did that id have my right to live taken away
Everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life thinking it is stupid. - Albert Einstein
Thank you
+snoopy dog no problem 😀
I never really did say all of these quotes people say I did - Albert Einstein
+Dat FancyIan okay.. but he actually said this one. who else did?
Valentina G. you have a video recording of him saying this? Just because you find shit on the internet doesnt make it tru
I actually cried. Hit me hard since I been telling my mom this my whole life and she still doesn't listen.
Keep remembering this for yourself, don't forget it like some other parents, and you'll make a great parent :)
I feel the same way dude
She had to go get her dreams by any means
@@karlprankard8774 lol and it was probably all in his head, they probably gave his brother more freedom and respect because he was years older
Ashley Terer Where do you come from ?UK or Usa?
Fuck.
Everything will be alright man keep doing your thing. It'll hurt but you'll pull through it
Dat Fancy Look up to God
Sounds to me, Ian, that your 'mother' is projecting herself and her failed dreams onto you. You're clearly going to succeed where she failed if you fight hard enough for it.
Keep holding on, keep finding your escape in words. You are amazing
I'll be that mom for you anytime/any day! I'd absolutely love to hear any writing you're willing to share! Please?
Just because you've spent years in the classroom, doesn't mean you've learned.
THE ANTHEM OF OUR GENERATION
best phrase
totally agree. a huge inspiration.
I would show this to my parents, but they won't listen. They'll take it as a joke.
My parents would probably punish me
RatchetSprite same
my parents would probably ignore it, take it as a joke, or just be like "it's on the internet. iternet isn't like real life."
All the people in my family are smart ,I'm the one who sucks at school. my parents compare me to my cousins who have better grades than me and that just pisses me off
ikr, my cousins go to Oxford and Camebridge
Mine goes to Harvard university and all he does is sleep , fart ,eat play video games all day but he's still so smart
Where is Harvard University?
I don't know somewhere in boston
One is not born smart, the issue is they want it more you don't, they are not lazy, you are, you could be smarter than them if you really wanted to
Here's the thing.
I want to show this to my mom but she would just yell at me for thinking less of her
Same here man.
Me too :(
i feel you man i tell my dad i want to play in the MLB and he laughs and says that will never happen
Peace.
They won't ever understand
Am i a sheep for getting a 3.7 gpa in school..but i hate school
+GamingTec101 I know that feeling...
Parents are assholes sometimes, my parents think I'm supposed to do what they want me to do
Omg. This is the same situation I'm in......
Thank you I really hope I will be lol She's my whole world lol
Live by that. She'll love you for it.
You should write this as a letter and give it to her when she's older. I'd love this if my mum had done it.
You deserve all the love of the world.
How are you able to come up with such strong, brilliant, and profound words. Isn't it hard performing your own work on TH-cam in front of millions a people. Have you ever been criticized for speaking the truth.
Daniel Niezer Really now???? Are you a parent yourself??
hunter day It is the truth. I am a parent myself.
Graciah Augustine Then you are the problem that inspired this song. A close minded adult who thinks they walk on water while watching their children drown because you believe that because you had to learn to swim, that they will too. Open your eyes mate, this song has more truth than you want to admit.
BehindTheMassacreOfficial You just judged someone harshly, because he wrote a comment saying he is a parent. WTF?!?
Im simply speaking the truth, THAT is what this song is about. Parents who think they know it all. By saying this is false is doing exactly what the song is talking about. Calling someone on their bullshit isnt judging.
These aren't tears. It's just my emotions trying to come out.
I really wish my mom would understand what he's saying...
Show her the video
"Eggs-Buggs and Pss3" Haha nice XD
okay definitely not bawling like a baby in the school library
thank you for this
If I ever talk to my parent about what I want to be, I receive angry reticule about how much of a loser I am to do it or they laugh at me straight to my face. My parent's straight up want me to be what they couldn't and since I won't I am a loser that doesn't need any attention because, I won't be them.
yeah imagine when i told them i was quitting school to play league of legends competitively
MrEnoxide sorry but quitting school for a video game is def not a good idea
thats why a pro gamer makes more money then you
MrQizro While I agree on you that I wouldn't quit school over games, don't go cyber bullying something he likes to do. Honestly, if that is his calling and his future lifestyle then so be it. We all want to be happy in our life and find a meaning to it. You and I may not see that lifestyle worth it or appealing but that doesn't mean it couldn't be that for others.
MrQizro Sounds like you're mad. Possibly envious, you sir are a disgusting individual ;).
I love that when you listen to his poetry you drop whatever you were doing and pay full attention it's great
My parents only cared for the results and did not care what I wanted, they only cared what they wanted and they wanted that I can cope with the world and now I have moved and look what happened, I'm OK.
Nice words.
You should so what you love, no matter who disagrees with it.
tell her what you wanna do, then get to the point where its happening so she gets off your case. I believe in you man
I believe we all have different fields in which we could excel on. Pursue your dreams bro. Not for the sake of economic survival but for freedom in Spirit. God bless!
you gotta be yourself, do what you want to do, The ones who mind dont matter and the ones who matter dont mind
Did you make it bro?
Valuable messages in this video. PARENTS don't talk-down TALK-WITH YOUR CHILDREN; treat them as young adults; listen what they're saying!
What he speaks of is so true
Sincerely,
PW-08
Ditto to PW-08
Jasmine Colbert There is a reason you get bad grades. It's not just bad luck.
This video is accurate!
man i wish the world was full of these types of people what a guy❤️
I re-watch your videos over and over, Suli...I relate to all of them...Please keep up the good work
Fools learn from experience, the wise learn from history. Every word this man say shouts at my heart.
Hopefully I have helped you out.
sasookarry i will see you on TV soon and dont be too good because Britain doesnt want its ass kicked too badly at the olympics some day.
Haha thanks dude and don't worry I was born in Britain ! 😏
Don't worry I'm standing my ground, but he only issue with that is the damn snow lol
Like i understand im semi smart but dont make my life difficult ith that as an excuse!
stewie griffin
I'm so sick and tired of my parents giving me OPTIONS of what to do with my life its either DOCTOR, NURSE,OR LAWYER! *I DON'T WANT TO DO ANY OF THOSE THINGS* I REFUSE to let my parents way me down because @ the end of the damn day THEY WILL BE DEAD and I will be stuck with the DAMN JOB!!!
naturalforme i love your bluntness and honesty.
256 dislikes are from parents
Ahahaha true
Yeah
Hahahaha lmfao
This poem gives me chills.

Suli Breaks would love to meet and do a poem with you ☺
Suli Breaks explain the kicker is the back up plan part please
Free Kingk It shows that the parents don't actually believe in their child. They're hoping they will change their mind and do their backup plan instead.
Suli Breaks 100% did not mess up at school i believe he got an A+ in school [english]
showed my parents this... well they said "WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE WE DON'T RAISE YOU RIGHT, WHERE PERFECT PARENTS SO DON'T TREAT US LIKE WHERE NOT, STOP TRYING TO FIND REASONS TO NOT DO YOUR HOMEWORK" ....
I showed my dad this video and I could tell he felt guilty as hell, and now he supports me in all my dreams and finally says he proud of me.
thanks for sharing that
Your story is motivational.
This is the truest fire I ever heard in my life
Being a father of a 3 (soon to be 4) year old little girl....this is exactly what i want for her.
I guess....
This guy...bringing out Bruce Lee quotes.
George Jones Hell yeah! lol
I feel the same way! I'm going for broke!
Hold up... was that..... an insult?
i showed this to my mother and it brought her to tears.
it was an eye opener for her.
thank you sulibreezy
i've been telling my african parents this my whole life and they never listen to me they think education is everything
J-Eazy Capone Same
I depend on them too......which kinda sucks I want to try to stand on my own two feet.
Cuz if I don't do well I'll have to work hard labour in my family business for the rest of my life.
Which I don't want to work in the family business to begin with.
this is what is killing my Africa i agree with you
I've showed this to my parents multiple times and after the watch it they agree with what Suli says, then a few days later there gone back to the way the used to be.
Vishant Prasad we need more people like you on Earth. Keep up the good work mate.
Thx
Keep pursuing your dream man. If your school won't have a football team then get a group of friends together and create a dream.
Never forget the effect your words have on people. You're changing the world.
I wish all parents saw this
Its good that there are still people like you who are not brainwashed. You are the best man.I completely support your opinion.
Why are you not part of The government
Because he never shuts up. Just joking!
because he doesn't lie?
Money man9850 music arab
Because He is the "TRUTH" and the government is always LYING! I hate the leaders we have today
If they saw him telling the truth the would kill him.
Thank you so much for this, Suli Breaks. God bless you always
I play this while I do my homework in front of my mom and she got mad
An* please learn grammar.
.* Don't be a hypocrite.
I have just heard most of what you have shared with our world and i believe you have made the largest impact on the way I am thinking ever. Thanks Sulli!
Honestly, my dad needs to hear this...
he never fails to make me cry.
As my child grows I plan to go back to this video and remind myself of these things. Thank you.
Love this guy
You can do it!! Keep grinding hopefully they will realise sooner rather than later.
Self taught python programmer with dreams of game design... but the kicker is the backup plan because honestly thats all they ever talk about
Kid with dreams of being a mangaka.
Frozen for life you just said everything about people like us.
BRO IM IN THE SAME BOAT
man me too i am youtuber i have my other acount 1.000,000 sub who want to buy miloin sub
This guy is the most sensable person ive heard from he underatands our feels how we are made to please our parents by goals not dreams
I wish I had the balls to show this to my parents
This kid made me mind blown and speechless. This was beautiful and his other speeches.
If only there was a Spanish version so I could show my parents
+Dick Grayson google translate is your friend
juste kevin (AniManga BIZ) no it's not it gets things wrong
+Its Nova 新星 it's not so easy to say it to your parents with as much confidence and timing. and stuttering through a sentence makes it far less effective
May depend on the mood and person.
Same
Suli, You have inspired me.
Wow, someone finally knows how to say what they think. Props man i'm almost speechless.
I will NEVER let my parents decide MY life. I know what's best for ME. I put MY foot DOWN.
tell my mum that youre putting your foot down and well...................O_O
This is exactly how I feel, I want to be able to express myself like the way you do.
I am 12 and when I grow up I want to game but my parents say no this helped me a lot and my parents now think it could be a good job for me thanks
+lego man That's what I'm aiming for as well man (Counter Strike pro-player) I hope both of our dreams comes true! :)
I am like u same 😀
+Oneill hmm well if you might be "done for in life" if your illiterate ass says nigga -.-
+lego man It's good that you have an idea of what you want to do!
BUT I SPREAD YOUR WORDS TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO WILL LISTEN!!
the thing with my mother is that she tells me to do stuff and i listen but then when i want to say something she doesnt listen and just doesnt care i think as myself as a girl who has a sewn up mouth i cant speak my mind i hate that if i say what i think she justs says you must be kidding the lady who tells me to say whats on your mind to you to the top doesn't let me speak my mind in my own house. it unfair
He speaks the words I can't , dreams matter more than any marks , passions build dreams if you believe in it you can achieve it
I wanted to take drama GCSE but my mum said it was pointless because I wasn't good enough at acting
what year are u in now?
Year 9 (I'm 13)
"wasnt good enough at acting". I love that, the ones who say "practice makes perfect" denies you the ability to practice :D
Ikr my dad was fine with it but my mum said it was pointless
Melissa Hanson thats the same as me drawing my parents say they are impress but they say that it will not take you very far to get a decent job
this is so powerful specially when most of the things he said actually happened to you!
wish he was my dad
Me too
As a parent of a 17 year old, this was enlightening.
OK 1 no one said it wasn't and 2 that wasn't even what the poem was about
