So, with more powder, a smaller and lighter projectile, the 5.56 actually hits like a .308 for transfered energy. 5.56 also has a much higher pentration value against soft armor compared to a 7.62x39. 5.56 is also much more accurate, has better range, and is much more accurate over range because it's also a much more stable projectile in flight. So yes, Bohemia got it right. The only company to do so.

We found like 5 extra m4’s (and we were too dumb to remember how to get plate carriers) so I didn’t know if we should try and make friends by handing them out, or trading them… then I remembered this is dayz

My personal thought is the Mosin. You will usually have that beast in almost every playthrough, and ammo is pretty common. Won't jam on you while damaged since it's an old school bolt action and will smoke people at most ranges.
mosin nagant in real life can get some nargly jams/refusals to operate. Who designed the bolt is a genius but there is a reason everyone else copied mauser or the lee Enfield
Its a bit of an odd choice, but im personally an SVAL + Armour peircing round enjoyer. The low recoil and high fire rate make it a close quarters beast.

If you have a LAR/m4a1 and a tundra you'll be okay When I play with my friends we all try to use the same ammo type that way if one of us goes down we can just pull the mags off one another and keep pushing if needed.
Best gun is/was SKS. Easy to get, ammo common enough, and when a fully geared player eventually gets you, they get nothing they wanted. Its also good at taking them down. I used to rock garbage clothing carry nothing and an SKS when we went out looking for trouble. If you lose, they lose too.

Personally, I use the AUG AX because of how balanced it is in all categories.
Haven’t really tried it but m4 recoil is really good.

It's the quietest of all suppressed assault rifles but as far as pvp capabilities the m4 is far superior due to much high rate of fire.

I found a gun, magazine, and ammo ONCE in DayZ. I couldn't figure out how to load it. I died shortly after of starvation.
