The interesting part of this is that this tournament (Kanto vs Johto) actually happens in the Manga. It’s presented as an exhibition to celebrate the opening of that years tournament but it is secretly part of a scheme to identify the new leader of team rocket (i.e. one of the gym leaders.). It ends with a victory for Kanto 4-3 (with one ending in a draw)
My Pokémon knowledge is incredibly limited, for I didn't grow up with the games and only in the past few months have started playing. What I did grow up with is the Adventures mangas and the shows. In the manga, they actually held a battle between the Kanto and Johto gym leaders! You should definitely check that out. It's a shame some of the gym leafers couldn't have a real fight or finish their battles, but what we did get wad awesome. It was hilarious to see Misty absolutely destroy Whitney, especially because Whitney is so feared in the game by players.
I would love to see this with the rematch teams in HGSS or the world tournament teams from BW2. It would be exciting to see them at their full power when theres more tactics available to them
That milktank would roll so many gyms it is not even funny, recovery is such a huge asset with such a limited number of mons, ans of course mostly mono-types.
@@slamgaming32yeah, at chapter 150 you see the league chairman planning that, the tournament itself is at 155. If your interest is only on that its totally readable, you can just ignore the main plot.
Cool video! Looks forward to part 2!! Reminded me of Silph Specter’s “True Power” tournaments, and pimanrules “Scientifically Ranking…” video. But the story element to your was excellent!
Thank you for the kind words! I definitely love both of their stuff, for sure an inspiration for this - and I appreciate the nod to the story, I had a lot of fun writing it and was really afraid it was just going to be bad haha
This is such a fun idea! I'm really looking forward to seeing how this ends. If I had to predict how the rest of this tournament will go: Chuck vs Koga: I'm pretty sure Koga will win. I don't really see any way for Chuck to win that fight. Koga's team not only outnumbers Chuck's, but all the tricks Koga can use with evasion tactics and Toxic would be a problem for Chuck. Plus, if it wanted to, the AI can go for Selfdestruct at least once and trade 1 for 1, leaving it as a 3 vs 1 match that I don't see Chuck winning at all. In fact, it going for Selfdestruct twice (since both of his Koffings have it) would just be gg right there. Jasmine vs Sabrina: I think Sabrina will win. While the type matchup favors Jasmine, I still think Sabrina's Alakazam would beat Jasmine's Steelix. It can recover and boost itself with Calm Mind, plus Steelix's Special Defense really isn't that good. The best chance I could see for Jasmine winning is if her AI tries to inflict Alakazam with Confusion and Paralysis with the Magnemites. Pryce vs Blaine: I actually think Blaine could win this one. Sure Seel and Dewgong are Water types, but they don't actually have any Water moves, so Blaine resists their Ice moves. The main problem would be Piloswine with Mud Bomb. However, Arcanine going for Fire Blast against it could just be game over on the spot. I don't really think Pryce has any good answers to Arcanine here. Clair vs Giovanni: I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a clean sweep for Clair. While her Dragonairs can't use Thunder Wave on Giovanni's team, Kingdra alone is a huge threat that I don't think Giovanni has good answers for. And if Giovanni somehow deals with that Kingdra, Clair still has a Dragonair with Aqua Tail which would still give him a lot of trouble. I'd be surprised if Giovanni finds a way to win this one. So my prediction overall is that the second half of the tournament will be 3 wins for Kanto and 1 for Johto, leading to the tournament ending in a tie. But these AIs have shown to be quite unpredictable, so things could go very differently depending on what the AIs choose to do.
This is super cool. As a follow up to the teams you encounter in on your mainline quest. I would be interested in how each gymleader's HGSS post game team matches up in a similar fashion (Like the teams they use at the dojo)
Ahhh, now this is intriguing! I tend to shy away from rematch teams a little (nothing against them, I just prefer the main story teams as more relevant to the characters), but this definitely is a good way to balance their teams as well, and fairly cleanly (all gen 4, all same game). Realistically I have some other ideas percolating after this one, but I am going to put this on the ideas list! Thank you for the comment, seriously!
Could try Hoenn gym leaders vs Kanto gym leaders (Having the twins fight their Kanto opponent in a double fight with them being the only exception of using Emerald teams)
"Whitney also seems offended for some reason." If I was one of the most notorious Run-Enders in the entire series put up against one of the most infamously free Bosses in RPG history, I'd be seriously offended too.
I am curious what this would look like using their teams and movesets from the Pokemon World Tournament in Black and White 2, given they’re all designed to be similar strength and be battled in the same manner and time. Could be good for some sort of potential full tournament bracket with every Gym Leader that appears at the world tournament, find out who the strongest Gym Leader in history is and all that. Or maybe one with Champions, every Gym leader could be quite the sizable endeavor. Ideas aside, fun video! The little bit of narrative setup was fun, always gives videos like this a little more character than just boringly framing them as objective analyses.
The kanto wars was a theory back in the day that explains why they let a 10 year old roam the world with wild pokemon. I dont remember exactly but essentially there was a war in kanto which Surge got his title Lieutenant. Thats why there arent a lot of adults they all died in the war. Thats why professor Oak preached friendship so much. It went so far that to say that 10 ten years were allowed to go out and basically train for the army by building your team and collect badges to prove your own rank as Kanto rebuilds itself. I dunno if this makes sense but great videos
Oof, its gonna be hard for Kanto to make a comeback from this. Koga can probably beat Chuck, and Blaine will absolutely destroy Pryce, but after that things start to get wayyy tougher. Sabrina has an awful matchup vs Jasmine, and Giovanni isn't gonna beat Claire, so the absolute best I see Kanto doing is 2-2 in the coming four matches. Kanto's only chance to get to four wins is to get sneaky, claiming that Jasmine is so clearly the second strongest gym leader in Johto that she should be put in match 7. If that happens, then Sabrina can destroy Pryce while Blaine can take out Jasmine. In that case, Kanto has a shot at pulling it back and going 4-4.
As a Johto simp, I want Johto to win! But realistically, It might end in a tie... Are remaining gym leaders are Chuck, with two Pokemon, Jasmine, (admittedly has a half decent team to deal with Sabrina but still...), Pryce, The most forgettable team ever, and Clair... She might actually beat Giovanni if the AI doesn't screw her over.
About the nicknames of the users (and even the sprites): If you save the replay in your PC, you can modify it A bunch of variables refer to the sprites and nicknames of the players If you search by the name of each player, change all of their instances to the one you want This can also be done for the sprites! Everything on the html file can be modified, as long as it makes sense, since it's only telling smogon what the players are doing (everything else is an asset from the website) You can even change PARTS OF THE BATTLE You can make some moves miss and so on Basically everything that is used in the battle (I won't list it all of course xd) I don't remember completely but I believe even Notes can open them and edit them ahaha so it's no problem PS: have fun making custom replays and scripted battles everyone ^^
they both share the same Pokemon League, so i just imagine that Kanto and Johto are just two halfs of the same region. (a pokemon caught in the kanto half of gen 4 was still met in johto when transferred) between the kanto/johto gyms and the E4, they have a type specialist for every type except fairy
You might be able to reach out to Pimanrules, a TH-camr who has made every trainer in all of Pokemon Red using its native AI battle each other. Super cool vid!
The AI work against Kanto. I mean Pikachu with Double Team and Miltank didn't miss, then Vileplume using Sleep Powder over and over even that Gengar was already asleep.
Fair question! My own curiosity was in how they compared against each other as in-game bosses (i.e. who is the stronger first gym leader, who is the stronger second, etc), whereas the rematch teams exist outside of the structure of the game to a certain extent (they’re post-game content, in other words). I think after I finish part 2 I will run a few rounds with rematch teams, though! I get why they have appeal, too (more moves, more mons, higher power level) - thanks for the comment!
I wish the AI was a **bit** smarter. It's one thing to go for the ace, sure, but for example, Misty switching her pure Water type to a Psychic-Water type against Bug Pokemon (yes even if it's only a Metapod lol, still the AI should be reading "Bug = Danger for your Psychic Pokemon") is just.... dumb.
Totally fair! I can’t say it’s the sharpest tool in the shed, but I still liked watching it go. But if you didn’t, I completely respect that! Thanks for the comment!
Lost interest at the everyone level 100 part. I would have loved to see the original levels and it can still be fairly even fight if you have 2 humans play (Faulkner could very well upset Brock every now and then) using each gyms team.
I like to think Misty's fear of bugs is what caused her downfall.
Haha I love that
Lol

I was thinking the same thing!
Falkner's Pidgeotto spamming Roost is the same as what it does in the actual game lol.
So true! Lol
That milktank would roll so many gyms it is not even funny, recovery is such a huge asset with such a limited number of mons, ans of course mostly mono-types.
A very popular theory is that the Kanto war is a war between Johto and Kanto, which is responsible to why Johto and Kanto became one region
Oh, I see - that’s really interesting! Thanks for sharing
The manga did that and is very fun. We got a Kanto vs Johto tournament to promote the pokemon league in GSC Arc of Pokémon Adventures
Wait really? That’s so cool! I’ll have to check it out

First ever game was Silver so I'm a gen 2 homer
Why didn’t you just WiFi battle two heart gold cartridges against each other? On two sewerage DS?
I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t me battling at all, just an AI matchup - even if the AI has some limitations lol
What about the rematch teams? Wouldn’t they be evenish then? I mean the post game of HGSS.
Great point! I think I may end up circling back around, for a little rematch (plus, the super powered teams would make for some high octane battling)
how about using all of their rematch teams from hgss ?
