Fun fact: The girl in SHINee's "Why So Serious?" is Irene from Red Velvet. She was in this MV even before Red Velvet debuted.
To understand the structure of this song you have to keep in mind that the whole point of SHINee as a group is to be experimental and to try things that no one else has ever done. There is no better example of that than songs like "Why so Serious?" The song was meant to blend several different styles and sounds together to create something never seen or heard before, and SHINee did it brilliantly.
"Why So Serious?" came out in 2013, and right before SHINee were to start promotions for the song, Jonghyun was in a car accident and he broke his nose. His face was all bruised up. That's why he wasn't in the MV, because SM decided it would be better for him to take some time to heal. But instead of postponing their promotion schedule, including the already planned MV shoot -- which would have cost them a lot of money to do so, among other things -- SM decided to shoot the MV with only 4 members.
This was 5 years after debut, so Onew and Jonghyun were about 23 at this time, Key and Minho were about 21 and Taemin was 19.
Therefore, you're right, in the MV Taemin covers a large majority of Jonghyun's parts, including most of his lines in the song -- just like Taemin now covers most of the parts that probably would have been Jonghyun's in all of their new songs, such as the main high notes. Jonghyun was Taemin's vocal coach and he helped teach Taemin how to sing, so Taemin's voice matches Jonghyun's voice the most out of all the members. That is why he is the one to take over the majority of Jonghyun's parts in SHINee's songs now.
However, if you listen to the studio recording from their album, you will hear that Jonghyun is part of the official track. It was a few weeks into their promotions before Jonghyun was back to promoting this song, but if you watch one of their last weeks of their live comeback performances or a concert performance, you will get to see him in the song. You really should check out a live performance because the song is even better with all 5 of their voices. Check out their performance from their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul from 2016, th-cam.com/video/Io5MXNwioT4/w-d-xo.html.
The choreography for this song is actually known as the zombie dance. As you may have noticed when you read the lyrics, the song is a sort of zombie love story about being brought back to life by love.
And FYI, that's just a security guard, not the police. The guard heard some noise while making his rounds and came to check to see what's going on. ;p LOL. When the guard finally makes it to the room to see what is happening, the SHINee members have disappeared, so he is shocked because all he sees is Irene dancing all by herself in the room. He thinks all that commotion he heard was coming from one little girl listening to a CD. Little did he know that she was having a full-on dance party with a group of cute zombie boys right before that.
If you want to see what makes this chorography so special, you should check out a video where SHINee does a tutorial and teaches the moves for "Why so Serious?", th-cam.com/video/9g-jyp8cEWg/w-d-xo.html. Also check out both dance practices: This is the version with 4 members, th-cam.com/video/IzweUc13iao/w-d-xo.html, and here is the version with all 5 of them, th-cam.com/video/ZAILvhe5GNs/w-d-xo.html.
Next to R&B, Rock is one of SHINee's best song styles. And nothing compares to SHINee's live performances.
    :D
It still baffles me how SM ever thought they could turn these guys into a hip-hop group. I am so glad they changed their minds, because SHINee's whole purpose in life would have been lost if we had missed out on songs like this one. :D

SHINee's "Replay," which came out in 2008, is literally considered one of the best debut songs of all time for any Kpop artist because it's so timeless and it never goes out of style or sounds outdated no matter how old it gets. And this is why SHINee are Icons.
This song actually came out more than 15 years ago, however, SM Entertainment rebranded itself and started its new TH-cam channel in 2011. The company reuploaded most of their older videos at that time. So, all their older MVs and content have a 2011 or newer date, but could be much older than that.
You're lucky you are watching this MV after SM remastered it, because now it has English subtitles. Because usually any of SM's videos that came out before 2018 don't have subs in the official video.
"Replay" isn't just nostalgic, it's legendary. And SHINee are legends. Every new rookie group in the industry has covered "Replay" at least once in their career and it's one of those songs that is pretty much compulsory for everyone to know and learn, even still today.
And, yes, of course SHINee can sing. As an SM group, you shouldn't expect any less. You can't be SM artists without having amazing vocal abilities. Even SM's rappers get intense vocal training. That is why SM is considered the vocal powerhouse of the industry, because ALL of its artists have out-of-this-world vocal abilities.
And not only are all the members of SHINee amazing singers, but they are the original vocal kings. EXO now may be considered "the vocal kings of Kpop", but SHINee were the ones that showed the industry what it meant to be vocalists. From day one, Onew and Jonghyun have been two of the top vocalists in the entire industry, and SHINee as a group make up one of the best vocal groups of all time.
Yes, Onew is the one in the hat, Jonghyun is the one with the headphones, Key is the one in green, Minho is the one playing basketball (he is always the tallest member) and Taemin is the one in yellow.
Onew (the leader and lead/main vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and a songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14. However, now SHINee are known for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group. The main vocalists can rap, the rappers can fill in as main vocalists and they're all impressive dancers. SHINee are some of the most well-respected artists in the industry.
The Noona (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***, Victoria from F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted, so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is, Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Noona neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words, they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you, I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Noona neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Noona neomu yeppeo is a term that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term, so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Noona neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs, the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them, even still today. This song makes all the women swoon. (Even 15 years later, when Taemin recently appeared on The Manager reality show, the female hosts of the show asked him to sing "Replay" to them.)
***SHINee and F(x) are both SM Entertainment groups, they debuted within a year of each other, they both are 5 member groups (Now 4 member groups ;( ) and they have similar music styles and concepts, etc. F(x) is pretty much the female version of SHINee.
SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee were designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to create the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. They reinvent the industry with every new release.
Fun fact: SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group. Hip-hop was the style of music that was really popular when they debuted. That's why Key and Minho are both rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. But as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag they needed in order to be taken seriously as a hip-hop group. So, right before their debut, SM switched up their sound and style to "Replay," and the SHINee members spent a few intense weeks working on their vocal abilities in order to be able to match the skills needed for a vocal heavy song like this. And the rest is history. As you just heard, this is SHINee's signature classic R&B vocals they are now known for.
As you can see from their "Replay" MV, even at 14, Taemin was one of the best dancers in Kpop, and you will soon discover with the more that you watch from SHINee and Taemin's solo work, that he has only gotten more magnificent over the years.
SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. From day one they became known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. When they debuted, they were one of the only groups who were singing live while performing this intense choreography. And everyone was so shocked with their abilities.
The ONLY thing the SHINee members are not good at is lip syncing, therefore, they avoid it at all costs. When you hear SHINee singing, 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. So, unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live.
They have trained their entire career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and continue to sound flawless while performing like this for more than 3 hours straight in concert. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach.
You should also check out SHINee's "Replay" dance practice, th-cam.com/video/gv60nR3_69U/w-d-xo.html. It's not an official dance practice video because dance practice videos didn't become a thing until 2010 when SHINee released the very first dance practice video for their song "Lucifer," but it is a real dance practice video from way back to SHINee's debut days. SHINee are the reason why Kpop groups produce dance practice/choreography videos today.
SHINee just recently talked about how they spent months as trainees practicing this choreography in order to get it down perfectly. During Taemin's recent appearance on The Manager, you will see all 4 of the SHINee members in the dance studio practicing for their "Hard" comeback, as well as their recent concert performance, and they talk about what it was like when they were trainees learning the dance for "Replay".

SHINee!!! There’s so much to check out! I would definitely recommend View, Married To The Music, 1 of 1, Good Evening, Don’t Call Me and Atlantis.
Also if you’re interested in interpretative dance you have to check out Taemin! I mean his dancing is simply amazing and he has some super sophisticated, legendary choreographies. Please check out Move and Just Me And You for amazing experience. Also Criminal and Advice are simply mesmerizing choreographies.
Taemin is having his long awaited comeback on October 30, I hope you’ll check it out too!!!

You reacting to SHINee and Infinite in the last month made me so happy!!! When they debuted the members did have ‘roles’ but they ended up not really having them anymore. Minho is technically the main rapper and Onew is a main vocal (along with Jjong).
For your questions about Colorful it’s 100% a fan song, especially since they mention “mint color” in the lyrics since our fandom color is pearl aqua (which is occasionally called mint too lol). They released it at the end of 2013, hence the Christmas theming, as like a recap to that year so all the behind the scenes footage was only from promotions, concerts, and mvs they did that year. They released 3 albums in Korea in 2013 and won artist of the year. The toy soldier styling is from the song Everybody, which is the title track of the album Colorful is from.

You may have noticed that "Sherlock" felt like you were listening to more than one song because it's a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's album "Clue" and "Note." That's why the title of this MV is "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" If you were to listen to the album, you would see that they are two separate songs, but when combined they become "Sherlock." So, in the MV you hear the mashup of the two songs.
Therefore, you may notice if you watch a live performance of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)", Minho's whisper part in their live performance is different than what you heard in the MV because when they perform it live, they chose different parts of "Clue" and "Note" to create "Sherlock" each time. So, their performance is never exactly the same, which is one reason why SHINee's concerts are considered one of the best. No matter how many times you have heard a song or seen them perform, you will never get the same thing twice.
In SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" MV the boys are Sherlock-like detectives who are looking for clues among the archives and displays in an old museum. The "ghost" girl -- who is played by Jessica Jung, the former member of Girls' Generation, a group that is also part of SM Entertainment -- is helping SHINee solve a mystery by leaving them clues. At the end they realize that the girl they have been seeing and chasing after all day is actually the girl that was originally involved in the mystery when they find an article talking about her from 1910 and they discover that they must have been seeing a ghost.
The room where they have their dance breaks is the main hall of the museum, like a large ballroom in a mansion or great hall, etc. And the compass rose star in the middle of the floor I interpret to represent SHINee who are known as shining stars and as a symbol for how they are navigating the globe as they reach fans all over the world.
In this song and MV SHINee are supposed to be detectives, so the choreography has been designed to give them Sherlock-like poses and to show them investigating clues, and taking photos, etc. That is why they do that Sherlock Holmes-style exaggerated march, and why you see them kneel down and draw a line on the floor, and why they hold their hands out like they are snapping a photo, and they have that move that looks like they are brushing dust from their sleeves, etc.
Yes, the brand name on the computer was iWatson. Like Sherlock Holmes' sidekick Watson. The computer helped SHINee solve the mystery.
SHINee was actually starting a fashion trend at that time. SHINee are known for being one step ahead when it comes to fashion because they are the ones that start the trends in Korea that eventually influence fashion trends around the world. Fashion designers actually covet a chance to work with SHINee, or any of the members individually for that matter, because they know that if they can get SHINee to wear their clothes that they will become super popular.
And, yes, this was the era of Taemin with long hair. Although, in the MV, Taemin's really long hair was a wig. He only has long straight hair during the dance breaks, but during the story sections his hair is much shorter and kind of curly. (He had to go back and forth between long and short hair for the MV shoot so it was easier for them to use a wig, but later on for promotions he had hair extensions.) However, he really did grow his hair long for a while during "Lucifer" area in 2010. Taemin with long hair is one of his most iconic looks. I didn't really like his wig look, but Taemin with naturally long hair/hair extensions during Sherlock era is one of my favorites. (He is actually known for making girls jealous because his hair is so perfect.) Many people thing that Taemin with long hair made him look pretty like a girl, but I actually think it's kind of a masculine look on him.
Taemin's hairstyle also made him one of the most popular of the members with their Japanese fans. This was the era when SHINee really started to solidify themselves as Japanese artists, so Taemin's look had Japanese fans gravitating to them. (SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and now they are considered one of the most popular artists in Japan as well.)
"Sherlock (Clue & Note)" came out in 2012 -- 4 years after their debut with "Replay." So Taemin is now 18 in this MV. Onew is 22, Jonghyun is 21 and Key and Minho are 20.
The choreography for "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and, because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. (Now, SHINee -- and numerous SM groups -- have worked with Tony Testa multiple times over the years.) Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first.
If you want to see the choreography even better, you should check out SHINee's "Sherlock" dance practice video, or better yet, one of their live concert performances of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)." I recommend their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul performance from 2015, th-cam.com/video/M4pINahBoRY/w-d-xo.html. If you think the MV is good, just wait until you see them perform it live. "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" live is on a whole other level.

SHINee's "Colorful" was their fourth song released in 2013 -- which, as indicated by the decorations on the cake, was their 5th anniversary -- and, yes, it's a song for the fans. It's a special holiday MV that was created to show how much appreciation the members and the fans have for each other.
Everything you see in this MV happened in 2013. This was a special video that used clips from all different moments throughout that year, highlighting where the fans' support was particularly important. I think each of these clips were chosen to show that it was the fans' support during each of the examples used in this MV that made that year such a great year for them. So, you see them in several different concert venues and performances. Plus, you see them on the set of some of their most popular MVs, such as their "Dream Girl" MV, "Everybody" MV and "Why So Serious?" MV, which all came out in 2013. Plus, footage of some of their album cover and concert poster shoots*.
*The clip of them in black and white with the masks and Onew with the wind-up key on his back, was a clip from behind the scenes of their "Everybody" album photoshoot.
SHINee held special fansign events that filled whole stadiums, and they even took time to hang out with fans in between events when fans gathered outside of radio station studios, in the parking garages as they were going to their next interview or event, and at SHINee's hotels, etc.
I think the clip with the fans standing in the long line that seemed to stretch clear down several blocks, was fans waiting for a fansign event. The whole MV is a tribute to Shawols.
It's SHINee's way of saying, "Without our fans we would be nothing, " etc. It's us fans that make their life so colorful and in turn they make our lives colorful as well. :D
And, where you saw the members dressed up in costumes, that was a clip of them dressed up for a fan event that also took place that year. SHINee are one of the very first Kpop groups to dress in full costume for Halloween and they are the group that really started the trend of wearing costumes on Halloween. In Korea Halloween really isn't a big deal normally and it's only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to embrace the western way of celebrating the day by dressing up and attending costume parties. But like everything SHINee does, they were one of the first and they are the reason why SM now holds one of the largest and most popular Halloween parties in Korea -- complete with a topnotch costume contest.
This is why SHINee won Artist of the Year at the Melon Music Awards -- one of the most prestigious awards in the Kpop industry -- in 2013. The award wrapped up what was one of the busiest and most event packed years for SHINee.

The deep dive into shinee- get to know the princes of kpop is the best guide, it’s long but it’s the most updated even if it still doesn’t include latest comebacks like jinki o(circle), minho chase album completing the series etc
Can’t wait for you to see their personalities~ ☺️
Compilations from cheese stick are funny

Sherlock was the most expensive choreo at the time as they used MJ’s choreographer.
Yess they all do everything! Best vocalists best performers (and cute and handsome and pretty). All five shine. Especially live on stage ☺️
They’re very known for their experimental style and being trendsetters~

I cried when I realised he had listened to MAS 0094 and enjoyed their work. Since the proceeds went to comfort women and Jonghyun also participated in charity work for them (there’s a video of him covering Maxwell’s This women’s work which I recommend) and that’s how it got played on the radio 🥹 ‘They are quite young and yet they have a really big heart’
This interaction means a lot to me ❤️
yt didn’t let me post the link but the clip comes up typing in Jonghyun and MAS 0094 ☺️🥹

Replay is from 2008. Originally Jonghyun was Main vocals, Onew Lead vocals & leader, Key lead rapper lead dancer sub vocals, Minho visual main rapper sub vocals, and Taemin main dancer sub vocals but Taemin doesnt have a line in Replay. Now SHINee doesnt have specific positions anymore. Minho whos a main rapper covers for the main and lead vocalists lines (when absent). Taemin and jonghyun who arent rappers raps on their songs so yeah. Yes you are correct that they can do everything hence positions in SHINee are none existent. They just do whatever they want now.

What I love about them is how good they are live - along with lyric videos, I really recommend trying to find a live performance for every MV you watch. Stuff from music shows might get blocked (not always), but clips from their concerts should be fine to use. Some songs (Everybody, Dream Girl, Sherlock adapted for a concert) are absolutely meant to be watched performed live. :D Enjoy your SHINee journey!
