The cheerful and bright Cedric Errol - known as Ceddie - lives in a poorer part of New York. His best friends are Mr. Hobbs, who runs a greengrocer's shop where Ceddie often helps with the bookkeeping, and Dick, the shoeshine boy, who earns his money at the entrance to the 6th Avenue subway station. One day the cheerful boy learns that he is to move to England to live with his grandfather. Since his father is dead and his grandfather needs an heir, he is to live in a castle as Lord Fauntleroy. Separated from his mother, of course, because his mother is American and the count can't stand people of that nationality! The future little lord is delighted to meet his grandfather and has no idea that he is a grumpy old man who has no friends and always wears a cold face. With his warm-heartedness, Cedric quickly manages to overcome all kinds of difficulties and finally even succeeds in transforming his grandfather, the hard-hearted misanthropist, into an open, friendly and lovable man...
