Base line ! Check line ! Tie line ! Main line ! Main station ! Tie station ! Auxiliary line ! Proof line
    Main Station:
The Stations which are located at the end of the chain line as a boundary of the survey is known as 'Main stations'. The line joining the main stations are called as 'main survey line' or 'controlling line'. The main stations are denoted by ∆ with letters A, B, C, D the chain lines denoted by ._.
    2. Tie Station or Subsidiary station:
Stations which are on the main survey lines or any other survey lines are known as 'Tie stations or subsidiary stations'. These stations are taken to dividing the area into triangles. These stations are denoted by
    Survey Lines:
    Base Line:
It is the longest main survey line on a fairly level ground and passing through the centre of the area. It is the most important line as the direction of all other survey lines are fixed with respect to this line.
    2. Tie Line:
A chain line joining two tie stations is called tie line such as ab or de. It is also called auxiliary line. These are provided to locate the interior details which are far away from the main lines.
    3. Check Line:
Check line or proof line is a line which is provided to check the accuracy of the field work. The measured length of the check line and the computed one (scaled off the plan) must be the same. cB is an example of check line.
    Factors Affecting Survey Station Selection:
    1. Stations should be visible from at least two or more stations.
    2. As far as possible, main lines should run on level ground.
    3. All triangle shall be defined properly (No angle less than 30º).
    4. Each triangle should have at least one check line.
    5. Survey lines should be as few as possible.
    6. Obstacles to ranging and chaining should be avoided.
    7. Sides of the larger triangles should pass as close to the boundary lines as possible.
    8. Trespassing and frequent crossing of the roads should be avoided.

What is the maximum length that a base line can be? It it 30 meters or even a larger number? Please tell if here is a limit, I have not hear anyone speak of this.

I Think maximum length of base line is not defined
      Any length is allowed
