    AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on TH-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

    If I could, I’d give you a hundred “thumbs up”. People don’t realize how much natural resources it takes to build a new vehicle. I’ll stick with my 2003 Tundra with 225,000 miles for another 20 years. Yes, I’ve pulled my 4,300 pound travel trailer over 50,000 to the four corners of North America. The dash may be “dated”, but it still has a speedometer, tachometer, the four other gauges, a radio, heater, A/C and everything works. The way I look at it, I can buy a LOT of gas (or fuel in your case) for the cost of a new vehicle. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

    I had a 2006 F150. No screen. It was a Lariat. Nice truck. But I needed a F 250 to pull my 31 foot travel trailer. I bought a used 2017 F 250 , 6.7 Powerstroke. It is a super crew, 6.7 foot bed. Could not be happier. We towed about 3000 miles last spring and early summer until I broke my ankle fishing. It is still waiting for me to heal up. This spring and summer wife and I plan to do about 4000 miles of traveling. However long it takes.

      @LongLongHoneymoon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks, I suspect you are correct. I may address this issue in the future. I mean, we will probably end up buying a new truck but honestly I think the best Earth-friendly "green" strategy would be to keep using the old vehicle indefinitely...

    • @DavidHBurkart
      @DavidHBurkart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes indeed, continued use of old "carbon footprints" could prevent the need for creating newer carbon footprints 😂😂

    • @jloppyhotmail
      @jloppyhotmail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DavidHBurkart Haha! I know, and appreciate the slant on this. I think the point is that the carbon associated with manufacturing should be considered in the net carbon calculations. It’s not easy for people to grasp and there’s no clear winner. “Energy can neither be created or destroyed.” Our behaviors can directly affect clean air and greenhouse gases. Overall, I’d say the RVer is as carbon neutral as an energy conscious homeowner. Would be neat to capture some data on this.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DavidHBurkart yes, this is a point I wish I’d mentioned. Driving an older vehicle is a form of “recycling” or reusing an existing resource. Just creating a new truck involves a massive carbon footprint. With electric trucks, there are issues with mining lithium, and the recharge electricity itself has to come from somewhere (coal is a popular choice!). The upshot is that driving an old existing fossil fuel vehicle may be the most “Earth friendly” strategy.

    No yearly tags in Montana if you have a vehicle older than 11 years old if you opt for permanent tags. A couple hundred up front, depending on vehicle type and then zero yearly. We had one vehicle 8 years, so that works out to $25 a year. We plan on keeping my current old vehicle that long at least and our other one has worked out to $16 if we paid yearly (12 years).

    I agree with you 100 % ! Your attitude makes me proud ! Such a beautiful older truck you have ! The only reason for getting a newer truck where I live is because I live in the rust belt and the floors and boxes and everything else on our favorite beautiful older trucks just rots away before our eyes some times before it gets paid for ! You have taken such good care of your truck you can drive it for many more years for sure . The new trucks with all their "chips" and electronic stuff are very troublesome and also just take away all the fun and enjoyment and pride of actually driving and owning a GOOD CAPABLE pickup truck that lets the driver do ALL the driving and know just what it takes to get it done !

Turns out, the lock gadget needed a AAA battery & the trucks battery was fine. So, the best part was it started right up to everyone’s surprise. It’s a great vehicle. I drove it up the street & revved it a little & was thrilled to see it respond so well. It’s a V8 and it shows.

    Two years ago, I decided to buy a truck camper. I bought an Eagle Cap 1200, I think the heaviest slide in camper made, at just south of 5,000 lbs empty, 6,500 loaded. I know some folks have put these campers on F350s and 450s, but empty they are at gross weight.
    I found a 1999 F550, 7.3, pickup box with 44,000 miles on it. I bought it, and I LOVE it!
    At 15,500 lbs, we're still 2,000 lbs UNDER gross!
    Ford built about 300 zillion of these trucks, commercial, utility, tow trucks, you name it, parts are a hop, skip and a jump away!
    And mechanics have tons of experience with them.
    My mechanic said Ford derated the 7.3 so it would go 500,000 miles.
    I'm 71. That ought to be just about right!

    I have a 2000 Ford Excursion.
    Over the years it’s pulled sand toys,
    good sized boats, and now a travel trailer.
    Been a great truck, but things are starting to go bad like the fuel pump,
    door locks, rear end bearings.
    And every piece of plastic is brittle now.
    Hate to give it up because it runs really good for having 200k, but at some point we’ll have to trade it in.

I plan to fix these things and maybe spring for a new paint job this summer. Oh this old truck has been there when our new Jeep and Toyota SUVs have been in the shop for weeks being repaired for transmission and electric power steering failures.

    I LOVE older trucks and LOVE Seemore! I'd give anything to still have my '03 Ford 150. I'm a general contractor and that truck was my home. Sold it when I retired from building. We also had a fantastic 1999 F350 dually we hauled our Chalet truck camper on and sold that as a package. Agree completely with the freedom you have when things are paid for and you have no debt. We've always bought vehicles several years old and let someone else take the hit on depreciation. I love that you've kept the same truck and camper. You guys are the best!

    We love our 2011 F350 Lariat diesel (custom ordered with all the goodies for travel). Only have 136000 miles on it and it pulls our 40 foot fiver effortlessly. It IS "cheaper to keep her." And yes, we do use DEF but it's no biggie. Re: new key fobs. Had to replace one of our electronic key fobs which quit working. Over $120.00! But it was easy to pair with the ignition. We'll keep this truck until our RVing days are over.

    Plates in GA.--$20.00. My 2020 F-250 6.7 RWD is worth more now than the sticker price. And my plates remain the same price.
    If an older truck work for you, great, I respect that. I agree with the fixed running boards, but an electronic locked tailgate is harder to break into. There are advantages to both new and older trucks. You claim new trucks are monitoring the owner's conversation and other information to sell. Easy enough to turn off if you don't want to use it. Besides, I have looked and haven't seen anything (except for vehicle location) that isn't available when you take your vehicle in for service at a dealer.

    I have been on the fence about upgrading my 02 F350 dually and every time one of the biggest reasons I haven't is I just can't justify paying $80K plus for a new truck. My truck, Brutus, has a half million miles on him and other than just needing some cosmetic attention will pull our 40 ft 5th wheel anywhere. I have a 45 plus year background in the auto repair business and he is mechanically perfect. I have done my share of restorations and paint work so this summer I'm going to give Brutus a new coat and drive another half million. Brutus does have a few "add on's" but the drive train is stock. I have added rear air springs for a smooth ride and I have added a guage panel that lets me monitor lift fuel pressure, boost, voltage, high pressure oil pump performance, left exhaust temp, right exhaust temp, center exhaust temp and suspension pressure. I enjoy your videos and write an amateur blog. Maybe one of ese days our paths will cross, stay safe and enjoy.

    I too am enjoying the “benefits “ of a 2006 (Chevy LBZ) fifth wheel tow truck approaching a quarter million miles. I am fighting to keep myself from buying a mega million bucks new truck for the reason of having a quiet modern comfortable ride. I have spent a lot of work and money restoring this old gal but I am older than you and I can see down the road to a time when I won’t be camping and I won’t need a truck then so why not get it now? My taxes are $25 a year and rag is $25 a yr. Taxes here on a new truck is about $1000 a year. I don’t worry if the kayak slips and scratches her like I would on a beautiful new rig.
