    THAT’S THE POINT, YOU ARE RIGHT!!!
    And this just amazes me everytime, how she changes her voice for a different vibe.
    She changes every era:
    YT - ‘girly’ tone
    ME - fuller girly tone
    DW - dark voice (album tracks sound like ME as they were recorded in 2015, so I’m talking about the tour)
    Sweetener - sweet womanly tone
    TU,N - complex of all tonalities (she stays light but can go dark)
    Positions - a womanly tone but soft (not as soft as sweetener).

    I don't think I've ever heard someone single in whistle with actual words before. Usually just notes or a series of notes. Not like, lyrics. Crazy.
    Not sure how much I liked it sonically, but its obviously impressive as all hell.

Usually it's just notes or a series of notes. Not actual LYRICS. This is insane! I'm not sure how much I liked it sonically either, but it's obviously SOO impressive!!!!!!!

    I believe that the "whistle notes start above D6" claim is pretty misleading, considering she hit as low as an E5 in that live performance. It seems that it's less about pitch and more about how much of the vocal folds are touching and maybe even in what part they're touching?

    • @ZoeStibiVocalCoach
      @ZoeStibiVocalCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi! I think we got our wires crossed here, she definitely hit lower than an E5 I think it was more like an E3. Actually the head voice goes until a D6 / E6 and then the whistles MAY kick in however in my experience they kick in after the F/G6. OF COURSE this is dependent on the singer and there is no hard and fast rule. It IS to do with the vocal folds and how little they are touching but you can not hear the difference a lot of the time that high, you can see the difference on a spectrogram.
      I am not sure how that is misleading at all, I said "around about" and this is very broad spectrum stuff. Everyone is different. ;)

    • @turkburg7816
      @turkburg7816 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ZoeStibiVocalCoach Oh yeah my "as low as E5" claim was specifically for her whistle notes, not the whole performance, haha
      every vocal "stage" I suppose, like the chest voice, head voice, whistle... They most of the time have overlapping ranges with each other. Ariana Grande can sing an E5 in any of those three ranges due to having very developed ranges in each type in that regard, I suppose!
      I don't know the exact terminology because I'm not an expert like you are, but that was just an observation I had.

    So I'm not a singer, but I am a professional dancer, so the comment about ballet dancers made me a little triggered 😂 I don't think Zoe was implying that you've either got it or you don't, but that all bodies and vocals are different, so it's going to be different for everyone. A lot of it is about your training, determination, and also the rest and recovery aspect also.
    Also, I'm a Kiwi too, and I think this is the first time I've really noticed how strong the NZ accent is, and also how fast us Kiwi's talk lol

    • @ZoeStibiVocalCoach
      @ZoeStibiVocalCoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my goodness I think I need to go have really watched what I said about ballet dancers!!! I think it's more about What has been the norm in belly and dancing general up until now. I'm so glad to see though that the world is changing and being more accepting of different body types.
      Definitely not saying that you either have it or you don't, but there is definitely a certain amount of symmetry that is required within the Lawrence in order to have a naturally balanced voice. Obviously only have talent and you don't put in the hard work you won't get anywhere. Hard work always trumps talent in any industry no matter how good you are at the beginning. I think the thing with Ariana Grande is that she was a very talented young singer and she was supported in her journey and got the right training but it's also combined with an incredible work ethic that means that she has reached the level that she reached today.
      It's so lovely to see another Kiwi here on TH-cam and funnily enough I get a lot of comments about how my accent has disappeared. When I go back home I always get asked where in England I come from and I find it rather upsetting that I don't get recognised as a New Zealand when I'm back in New Zealand anymore

    I know you like to do live covers but this one is by Johnny Cash and he is actually doing a cover of a song called “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails. The video was done before his wife died who is shown in the video and shortly after that he passed away. He related to this song and sung it so hurt felt the the guy who wrote it said it was Johnny’s song now. Bring your tissues on this one, it’s really moving. Don't u worry, man. In fact, we have the same case. I was soprano before, but when I reached 14, I became tenor. I felt sad because I thought I cannot hit high belts anymore. But, I never lost hope. I watched a lot of youtube videos about mix voice and did self-practice. And now, I can hit high notes up to Bb5 in mix(Heady mix), Eb6 in Falsetto and B8 in whistle(Squeaks). I recommend you to join singing lessons and learn from yourself. That's all! Have a great day and Thank u!
