He is one of the best (but there are more painters following in his footsteps that also are good). Being an outcast - outside of the establishment has made him work a lot on the philosophical foundation of painting and art - which has pushed a lot of new insights into the theory of aesthetics. Entering the establishment of the art-world could actually be a sign of poor quality and shallowness - given what we know about the 'art-world'. I do not agree that he is "(...) just a very good painting technician (...)". That point misses so much about the whole Nerdrum project - that is sad. Feel free to study and learn more about the Nerdrum school. It is better for everybody.
@@anders7741 I have been studying Odd Nerdrum and his works in particular for a very long time. Believe me. I even know many of his works in the original. (Meam Solo exhibition in Barcelona and Frankenhausen in Germany) He's just a very good painter! But if you only transform your own spiritual world, in his case Nordic mysticism, into paintings, then unfortunately that's not “real” art! He not only paints this mysticism, he also lives it, as you can see from his behavior, his clothes and his artistic world view.
@@achimborn5850The label 'Nordic mysticism' is just a label put by art historians, without any real reference to his own world-view and without reference to the main underlying aesthetic guiding principles of the painting approach. If one is using words and language to describe Nerdrum and his group - it is storytelling (embracing the metaphysical, sentimentality, drama, despair, classical ideal, baroque, eternal (transcending time), etc). The label 'Nordic mysticisms' misses the point really. It just shows that you did not study their aesthetics (kitsch).

Subtitles, please 👏
Takk for at du la ut denne videoen.
Any chance we might see a subtitled version, or translation of this for the English-speaking world?
Add subtitles, please!
Takk!
Need english subs please :)
It's a shame it's not translated.
