    Another cool car to the collection.
    Like I posted on RC Kicks video, if you're going to run the car you could put some painter's tape on the chassis then cover that with a heavy duty duct tape or aluminum tape to protect it. The painter's tape first will make it all easy to remove.

    These DF03 models are well known for eating the aluminium gear on the main shaft very quickly. Made from Tamiya's finest butter just like most of their aluminium gears.
    Five Stars used to make hardened steel main shafts which solved the problem. FS7038 for the base shaft, and FS7039 for the slipper clutch main shaft.

  • @rcaficionado
    @rcaficionado 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another way to protect the chassis (besides using duct tape that was mentioned by another viewer) is to get a sheet of lexan (I usually use RJ Speed), cut it out to the shape of the chassis, and then attach it to the chassis using duct tape along the sides. If you run on a rough surface or do a lot of jumps, the lexan does a great job protecting the bottom of the car. As for a blue prop shaft, I think GPM makes one that fits the DF03. I think Tamiya used to make one (part #49432), but those are probably hard to find now

    Glenn those rims have a great size for Schumacher Mini Spike 2.2 tyres. Give them a try for the track in yellow compound. I'm sure you'll like them. Those Tamiya rims are ever so slightly larger than normal 2.2, hence why other wheels have fitment issues. They aren't 2.4's, they are 2.2, but just a bit odd 2.2's. But try the Schumi tyres, you will like them.

    Hey Glenn, after glueing the wheels and tires and if you want to reuse the rims, soak the wheels and tires in acetone. You can cut the majority of rubber off and then just leave the side part which is glued to the rim. Leave the wheels in the acteone for 24 hours (use an sealable lunch box or container with a lid to stop the acetone evaporating (it also smells quite strong). I haven't tried but it apprently works also if you suspend the wheels and tires above the acetone and the fumes do the same thing - ie liquify the tire glue, so you can just peel away the remaining rubber from the rims.
    A couple of points if you are going to try this.
    1. use gloves and make sure the container you are using is sealed - I use a big lunch box container.
    2. once you get the rubber off (whether thats the whole tire or just the pieces left after youve cut the majority of the tire off) rub the remnants of the tire glue off straight away with an old toothbrush and continually dip the toothbrush in acetone as required to remove the rest of the glue if required.
    Cheers and good luck at the track!

    I have a feeling that buggy is going to be epic when you run it . Everything about it is stout, the drivetrain, shocks and even the wheels and tire package. You might want to get an extra set of wheels and tires because I think you’ll want to run this one quite a bit .

      These are wicked to run, I restored one recently and upgraded it heavily. It handles real well, real quick too and my rear diff was in the car 10 yrs before it needed attention and that was with 10.5 brushless. You won't be dissapointed Glen I assure you. Another weak spot is the mounting point for turnbuckles on rear tower, I've broken mine and seen many others broken too. Your better off replacing with an alloy tower, you could use carbon but I've been looking for carbon towers for a year and you just can't find them, and I've looked everywhere I can promise you. But all in all the df03 is my joint fave runner along with my tlr 22.....enjoy Glen, I do!

    That's a good looking buggy, can't wait to see it run. I wish someone did trf decals to fit other shells, there's no way I can paint like that. I found some cheap 'hobby go' tires on ebay, they come with wheels but they fit the df03 and trf wheels. Fine for thrashing about on dirt and tarmac. Also, Have you thought about 3M helicopter tape to protect the undertray? I use it on my mtbs and it's really tough.

    I don’t think you can tell if a diff is too tight just by rotation. It might just be mega smooth . You really need to hold both outdrives in place and try to rotate the gear. It should have very very minimal slip under high force .

      It's the rear diff that fails, it has plastic discs that the rings are glued to and if you don't set it correctly the heat build up basically melts the plastic plates. To stop this happening buy a set of front outdrives to put in the rear, they fit perfectly and have a metal disc instead of plastic so stops the melting issue, throw in the ceramic balls and your good to go but get a slipper to protect the drive train when using high power or landing jumps
