    Nice set-up! I like the TSC chicken 8'x8' "kennels" with tops; however, I wish they were larger (at least 10'x10')

      I have seen more about them lately, seems to be an awesome breed especially for butcher. I am pretty invested in the breeds I have right now, but if I ever need any I will certainly reach out;)

      The absolute first thing I would do is lock your pens down like Ft Knox. If I’m spending thousands of dollars, there odds are always against you with chickens, the last thing you need to worry about is predators or dogs. Once you invest in protected breeder coops, I would then Study your area and find what breeds are popular or which are scarce. I don’t raise or breed any ordinary breeds that big box stores get all the time. It wouldn’t be worth my time. I invested in amazing very well known nationally breeders of certain breeds. That’s what works for me;)

    Do the chickens stay in there at night also. (Under the lean to pens?)

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, the do not get to free range. They stay in their breeder pens. Once it is nice weather, I will alternate days when each pen can be let out to explore, as to not ever cross any of the birds. They will have to take turns.

  • @brendacourtice9498

    That looks great and easy to set up. Do you have any issues with predators or snakes getting in though? That would be my biggest concern doing something similar

    You’re not worried about predators getting in over the top?
    Plus, you’re very fortunate, if you get a decent wholesale price.
    It looks terrific!!!!!

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! I always try to barter or reuse . I didn’t want to spend money on pens. And for 3 years we haven’t. The new ones were $100 off at tractor supply for Black Friday. Still really expensive but they function so well now. I will be covering the top with a bird cloth. I do not have any predator problems, Bonnie and Bear do an excellent job around the ranch.

  • @trinareeves4767
    @trinareeves4767 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Are you going to put wire over the top to make it predator proof?

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didnt plan on it. Bonnie and Bear protect the whole ranch. I (knock on wood) have never lost chickens to any predator.

    Looks great! Do these chickens stay outside all the time, through winter etc? Just curious! I’ve always thought I needed coop space for each set so this is intriguing!

  • @jeremymoeller4797

    How many hens do you have in each breeding pen? Im assuming 1 male. How many eggs do you get to hatch out each week? How many chicks do you sell each week?

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Around 9-10 hens and 1 Roo. Eggs that are layed are different per breed and depending on everything. It’s winter now so they are back and forth. Generally incubate about 60 every Friday, depending on how many hatching eggs sell. In the spring it will be most likely 120 or so eggs a week. The arctic blast has changed everything these past weeks. There are so many variables.

      @jeremymoeller4797 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ParagonRidgeRanch do you have any trouble selling that many chicks? Are you in a large market area. I would like to hatch and sell locally but I can’t see selling that many chicks.

    This looks awesome. We did one of these with a roof on it for a run off our main "free range" pen. Do you have any concerns with raccoons there, or does the mini donkey deal with that? We have had a raccoon issue on our farm for many years and I have to keep the birds locked up tight during the spring or I will lose birds. Great content, definitely worth a like and a sub! Thanks for sharing!

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We put netting in the top, more so the birds don’t fly out. Predators are not an issue for us, the LGD’s take care of that for us;) the Donkey takes care of the sheep;)

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @williamjenkins8566 I don’t. I still have to get NPIP certified if I was to sell over state lines. I started with shipped eggs this past spring and have been growing the.m all out. I’m now waiting for most all to lay. I have a feeling they might wait until Spring! If I do decide to mail eggs I will certainly announce it and create a site;) still a little early on my project;)
